Be careful on the A64 a plod with a liking for Porkers

ORIGINAL: gresley

Thank you for your comment Marlin.

Your circumstances mirror mine in age and motoring experience and it is extremely regrettable that you have incurred negative comment on a sister site.  No one, and I repeat no one, should condone unfair or discriminatory practice by any agent of the state ( or anyone else come to that ! ).  We are fortunate to have liberties in this country which have been painfully earned - allowing them to be eroded or even suggesting that this erosion is acceptable, as seems to be the case on the PH site, shows a level of contempt for this country and its law abiding citizens.

Oration over!

Don't go to France - their chauvinism ( though well founded ) can be insufferable.

In reply to Andrew, I hope he hasn't interpreted that my thoughts were that of abuse-they are not. If an officer stops a vehicle because he bears envy of it then there is an issue, granted. What I described was a inquisitive admiration. However, stops like that reveals higher level criminals, trust me.
Sadly the frustration you feel re traffic process is promoted by the government forcing figure driven results and that goes from the top down. The example I give re old man and breath test are testament to this figures culture- a error/minor transcretion earnt him a producer and breath test. I find policing like this SO FRUSTRATING but it is encouraged by the "measurable system". I don't know whether voting otherwise will change this. Each politician wants to show success (ie Home Secretary), passes it onto each Chief Constable and in turn it reaches the PC. Success as a force results in funding so the thumb screws are tightned. Don't blame the police, blame the politicians. Look at the Chief Constable from Notts who put his hands in the air and said he could not cope with the murder rate and asked for more funding. The answer? They replaced him with someone who claimed they could cope. Good incentive to be open and transparent eh, he has my respect.
My frustrating colleage doesn't have the same nose for things that I have so defaults to traditional volume policing. In turn this "draconian" approach yealds him drink drivers, kids that have TWOC'd dads car etc etc.
We will never please everyone for one reason or another. I don't like speed cameras the perception is because I'm a bobby I would. Wrong. Given 104 fatalities and 526 seriously injured verses 13 murders and I can we can both guess where the police will focus their efforts. I'm not a traffic officer, have no desire to be but respect the reasons and methods of their work. Traffic policing is a neccesity. Rudeness and victimising people is not. I agree that laborious issuing of tickets is unneccesary at times and wins us no fans. But I also have the advantage of seeing why somethings are done.
Well I had best turn up my radio and go out and penalise some tax paying motorist for doing 33mph in a 30mph and get myself furnished with some good advice. Once I've finished my MacDonalds that is.......
All the above incidents are true but the names are ommitted to protect the guilty.

Think you have a thing about nice cars and serious crime, I bow to your experience. But like I say you would be very busy in Wilmslow and the rest of Cheshire. Now let me see must put the gun in the car before delivering my stash, this 911 is too bloody small [;)]

edit: just spoken to a mate who has had the delivery of his 400K boat confirmed, I have told him not to bother he won't get out of Dover. Lets face it Drugs, Boat, 400K, got to be a wrong-un

Good reply Robbosliding and I think it confirms that the politicisation of the force is not what either the public or the police want - once again the Government is at the bottom of it.

I hope you sensed from my comments that my issues are not with the rank and file officers who just want to treat the sensible and generally law abiding public as they themselves would wish to be treated. It WAS aimed at the sort of officer who might cynically look for an easy option rather than a difficult one or who may have a chip on their shoulder. Clearly from your comments they are in the minority but even one is too many!

I wouldn't do your job in any circs. but it is a good job that there are still people out there who will and do it in a human and sensible way.

Andrew

Andrew, I think we are singing from the same song sheet. I'm damned if I do and damned I don't. Some would say it serves me right!

I'm sure the amount of marque cars that are floating around an affluent area like Wilmslow (did you mention thats where you live......again...... ) is considerable and I have to add I love to see successful people enjoying the product of their toil.
I do not level critisism at you for your comments. I hope you do live free from fear of crime.
Large things can come from traffic stops, its like fishing. Cut the guy some slack, he might of been a cretin but his interest is in looking after you. I could almost pen the reply you will get back from the police now..........

ORIGINAL: robbosliding This is supposed to be a light hearted comment !!!! Just remember the nice indexed linked pension !!!!!!

I do live a great part of the year in France , just remember chaps over 180 klicks on some autoroutes and its strait to the crusher for your car , on the spot ban , (licence sent to DVLA) maybe in clink if they do not like the cut of your jib . Don't transgress over here or they will chuck the book at you !! happy hols [:D][:D]

That would give me a downer on the Gendarmerie :(
I think I should emphasise to Marlin that I'm not knocking his quibble, there is no room for abuse of authority, rudeness etc. What I can relate to though is being met with an attitude of a motorist expressing that his/her being stopped is absoloutely outrageous and furious demands to know the reason will not speed up the process. Some might even find it amusing seeing how far into orbit they might go, some people don't help themselves. Behaviour breeds behaviour. You only have to watch the TV to see how completely irrational some members of public can be. Thankfully though the complete idiots are in the minority and I enjoy serving the vast majority of people with a service that struggles to meet the standard of what they really deserve. It all comes back down to money, figures and how those figures are represented by those chasing their own ends. How is life in car crushing France?

He He , trifle damp at present thanks , but am braving the Manche and the DVLA next week when I bring my 993 back to the Uk to live , it should be fun !!

robosliding I am exhausted just reading your post's, thank f**k you didn't stop me I would be there now [:D] When was Wilmslow moved into West Yorkshire ?

Lighten up we all think coppers are out to get us, the one that isn't is a bonus and I am glad to meet a like minded Porsche fan like yourself .

As from the reply from the camp commandant, do you really think I care [8|]

I thought it was odd, you refered to Wilmslow a few times but appear to be West Yorkshire based!
Yes, there is some method in our madness in boring you at the roadside. Some would opt for the sixty pounder instead!
Also some would call you a puff (not particularly politically correct I might add) for still having legal tread left on your tyres in a 997 TT!
Happy motoring!

There's a problem posting pictures at the moment - sorry [&o]

Whatever the reasons you were stopped for the police must have a duty for all concerened to wait for a safe area !
Hard shoulder & at the side of high speed dual carrigeways is very dangerous .
Im sure that collisions into stationary vehicles is one of the most common types of highway accident, this is why you must never sit in you vehicle when broken down etc.
Imo the traffic cop should have told you to follow him off the dual carridgeway.................. then admire your car!!

From what you put, Marlin i would say it is your fault. You chose where to stop. The one and only time i have ever been stopped i was followed for a few miles, with the police car patiently behind me, until i found a safe place to pull over. I was asked why i did not stop when indicated and i told the officer that i deemed it not safe which he accepted.

Well there you go it was my fault. When you have a bleeding bright yellow 997 Turbo, every thing is your fault in the eyes of some individuals. I have learned to live with it [;)]

To date I have not had a tug in a Porsche but I am waiting.[:)]
You should be OK it will just wipe off the leather upholstery I should imagine [;)]

What car did you say you had again? I think i missed it the first 7 times you mentioned it [:D]

I think he said it was a BRIGHT YELLOW 997 TURBO.

My first Porsche was a six grand 924 Turbo held together with string, it took me 40 years of hard graft to get my arse into a 997 Turbo (8 times) At my age I should be retired but I am still working to pay the finance on the 997 Turbo(9).

Its not a good idea to have a personal attack on a enthusiasts forum like Porsche. Because its a close community and there is every likely hood that you could meet the person at a event. Then you look a fool, because the person turns out to be a decent hard working chap with the same interests as you.

Meanwhile if I get a tugg from plod I shall carry on until I find a suitable place to stop, I can always say it was advice given to me by a friend.

You have given me advice and I have given you some, we are nearly friends already. By the way did I say i have a 997 (thats the new model) Turbo (10). [:D]

My last Porker was a bright Red Boxster, and it was just as much fun as my bright yellow 911, I once owned a Bright blue 993, before that it was a bright red 964. My ambition is to own a dull grey one, one day [:D]
