Bits that DO work

Oh C**K I forgot about the headlight washers they don't work [&:]

Think the ciggy lighter and clock are on the same fuse. If I remember correct it's No 11. I only know this because the first time you remove your glove box you will wipe the fuse out as the glovebox light also on the same fuse. You won't do it agin lol.

Television reception has been a bit poor in my Audi recently

My 944 has a watertight sunroof, fine hinges on the armrest (cassette dividers removed non slip mat inserted), nice new bonnet and tailgate struts, AC needs work, glove box ok. clock is fine on the radio and on the clock for about 15 minutes a day, then the display gets messy again.

Could do with me taking the shocks off and getting them repaired though, I havent driven it since the day [:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(]

I think Scott should be banned? [:D][:D][:D]

I want to know if his apple stopper works properly.
Actually I'd like to know what an apple stopper is and how it gets to be an accessory on a car!

ok so
glove box light - yes
clock - yes
leak free sunroof - yes
headlight washers - yes
Ac - no compressor fitted currently so no
central hinge - yes, but I changed that
Nice neat gearlever gaitor - yes
Boot strust are fine, bonnet a little tempramental

That's not bad!

"It's the oddments tray from a 968, it's a 968 part and will never break.

I don't know what came if you didn't order a cassette box. I thought they were part of the UK spec that always seems to include a sunroof as well? "

Paul I f you didnt order a 'box you got plain carpet!

Just like mine, lighter like that!

- is there a "lights on warning buzzer"

Nope - this is from the early 80's remember [;)]

or maybe they thought those big popups sticking up would be a hint (I've still left mine on though - doh [8|] )

I bought a new hinge and armrest pad as mine had a 968-style oddments tray (ie a hinge that had been cut off!) but then leaned in to get a car park ticket and put my weight on it...[]

I do however have:
a working clock (not lit though)
A watertight Sunroof
Ice cold Air con

From September 1985 until September 1987 the cassette box was an option. If you didnt pay you got the rubber matted tray that people are now mistakenly calling '968 odment tray'. From memory it was included in the UK specification for the 1988 model year. As I think Ive already said in this thread: I had a 1987 car which was relatively new and didnt have a cassette box option.

Ac - no compressor fitted currently so no

Thats cheating! It didn't work before though did it ;-)

None of the 944's I've ever owned had working headlight washers, aircon or hinges in the glove box.. everything else was good.

How many points do I lose for breaking Pauljmcnulty's sunroof without even being in his car? ;-)

After 9 months of ownership my interior light started working off the door switches.......... of it's own accord!!!!

So far I've got all of the above working fine except for the A/C.

I doubt my A/C will ever work, it looks like a very expensive fix "¦ aside from needing the modern gas conversion I'm semi-certain the condenser is buggered as well thanks to a front-end smash in the car's dim and distant past.

You don't need an expensive conversion it's an urban myth!!! There is a direct drop in replacement gas for the R12. Costs a teeny bit more than R134a but worth every penny. Got mine done for around £80. It is worth noting that the AC compressor has a magnetic clutch that won't energise if the system has no gas. There is a low pressure switch to prevent it from doing so. So no gas - no compressor. Any reputable (and I don't mean Kwik Fit or Halfords) should be able to do the job for you for a round the same price.

Mine currently has:
Working waterproof sunroof
Working clock
Working electric seats
Working electric door mirrors
Unbroken cassette box hinge (with cassette dividers intact!!)
Working heater on all speeds
Working boot and bonnet struts
Working interior lights (including the boot!)
Good radio reception
Working rear window demister
Working electric windows
Working window wipers (front AND rear)

It currently doesn't have:
Cambelt
Balance belt
Rollers
Tensioner
Water pump.
(List To Be Continued...)

Everything is working (as of last weekend !) other than the aircon. I have also dabbled with the idea of getting it repaired (needs a new condensor at least and then converting to modern gas) but just seems too expensive to bother at the moment compared with the level of benefit of having it working. Might just get some of the system removed and save some weight.

Good to know, but the gas is the least of my A/C system's worries. The whole shebang was mangled long ago and never repaired. I should really have it removed sometime.

I must be bottom of the table in spite of the fact everything works, I lose major points for snapping my torque tube in half!!

Has anybody else on here done or seen that before?

All three items work in my series two car, although the cassette box lid seems to have come off a left hand drive car Mark...

well spotted, you have the one that was in my S2, i had drilled holes in the Lux box for an iPod cable so swapped them over - you got the better of the two ! (weirdly, neither car is LHD)

Id noticed that it had been changed, it differs from the pictures... [:D]

Congratulations! Thats very impressive torque, with 422hp what was the torque figure?
Mike

In around the 400 ft lbs mark.....depending on which dyno you use I suppose .....still enough torque to break the shaft

....Has this happened to anyone else before or am I just the unlucky one ??
