Following up an original thread on "Bose stereo woes"

Having stuck with it as an option on my 997. now its here - its actually very good, much better than the set up in my boxster - my wife thinks so too.

Maybe its just the choice of music in the cd at the moment but compared to most upgrade stereo options for others cars that I have heard (Lexus aside which wins hands down) - this is pretty good value.

Yes you can buy a better stereo for your house much cheaper but comparing like with like and the poor acustic environment cars make, i am impressed.

I think you may be in a minority with this view, but I agree that the Bose option is better than the standard offering. My hearing is quite poor and I find the conflict between the sound system and road noise too difficult to cope with and usually switch off after a few miles of motorway travel. I did, however, on a trip back from Scotland last year find that fitting ear plugs and turning the stereo way up provided a working, if somewhat poor quality, compromise.

I concur with okellyt. The Bose is a superb system and deals well with radio and CD music, given the small volume of space it has to contend with. The default bass setting can be a bit boomy but reducing the bass level helps, as does tilting the sunroof (if you have one) to let the pressure out! It can't compete with the seductive sound of the engine sitting behind you but on a long boring motorway drive at semi-legal speeds it is a joy.

Having stuck with the standard ( woeful ! ) stereo offering in my latest BMW, Bose is fantastic !

Another vote for Bose, in a convertable really pretty good.

Is the Porsche Sound Package Plus not available any more or is it only for the Boxsters and Caymans? I find that more than adequate top up or down... Test drove one with the Bose system the other day and it was NOT exceptionally better than the Porsche Sound Package Plus, yes, agree, miles better than the basic sound system that comes with it...

I have only heard the Bose so can not comment on any thing else. The Bose was in my car when bought. Much prefer listening to the noise the car makes to be honest[:D][:D]

Didn't have bose in my 986, so didn't appreciate what I was missing.

Specced it in my 987 and must admit, was impressed.

Needless to say, specced it again in the Cayman, and still impressed. Although does sound slightly different in comparison.

Would definitely make sure my next Porsche had it...

I have the BOSE option on my 911. My wife's previous car, an Audi TT, also had the BOSE system, although in the TT it seems significantly better than in the Porsche.

I'm still not sure which is better considering the confines of the cockpit. I had the standard set up in my 997S - which was the IIRC the upgraded premium system in the 996, now in the Turbo I have the Bose which is good but not a quantum. Am having a demo of the NavTV Ipod adaptor next week which slots into the CD changer slot in the front and then displays all the ipod info on the PCM. It sounds wonderful - I'll let you know! Must be better than the I-trip which is cra......poor!

Graham, How much ?

Lexus aside which wins hands down

Get down to your Audi dealer and see if you can have a listen of the Bang & Olufsen high end unit that costs £4,500 on an A8. Absolutely astonishing!

So quick survey of everyone out there

Has anyone yet had an aftremarket stereo fitted to their 997?

Whats it like? How difficult was it to do?

Just realised I have been listening to my Bose for 18 months with the 'audiopilot' thingy turned off.

Now switched on, lets see if the mobile phone performance goes to pot as reported !
