Bose stereo - its actually prettty good

I've got the BOSE option fitted on my 997

I'm fairly sure that it is responsible for a piece of trim under the rear screen working its way loose (too much Bass)

Graham, Please post your findings on the Nav Tv demo you are going to have. This sounds the ideal solution replacing the Cd Changer with the Ipod & using the PCM disc 1- 6 for the various Ipod file arrangements. I had an M6 that BMW brought out the IPod thing for and that was the same, lost the CD changer but the Ipod was connected with power & discs 1-6 on the Idrive became the means to show the Ipdod data by playlist, album, artist, gendre etc..it worked well on that but there was a limit of 500 albums, so you were better off using playlists to organise your music efficently & quickly.
Anyway I will definatley go for it if the thing works ok, so please report back, thanks

Actually I have researched this on the various forums and it would seem that the Nav tv software is a little buggy and way too expensive for what it is. I was quoted ÂŁ450 + vat to have it fitted. It seems the Dension Gateway 500 is the one to have as it works alot better with the Porsche system & does not have bugs, its also substantially cheaper than the Nav tv Poripod...

Yes - definately needs the trebble taken down a notch or two and the base tweaked up just a little

Just had Skunk Anansie - Stoosh on the crawl back down the M11, i'd forgotten how good an album it is!

did you get the Dennion Gateway in the end? Any good?

Not yet...my local audio dealer was supposed to call back with dates for the job & hasnt yet, which is somewhat annoying, dont like things like that, so I may well go elsewhere, but I am definately going to have it done and will report back on it in due course
cheers

Sorry Chris, the guy who was meant to be demo'ing it hasn't turned up with the goods yet. As soon as he does - i'll post the results!

To pick up Andy's question form another post

Has any one tried their Bose stereo with back seats down vs up - any one notice a difference?

Just realised I have been listening to my Bose for 18 months with the 'audiopilot' thingy turned off.

Now switched on, lets see if the mobile phone performance goes to pot as reported !

Yves

I presume you also have the surround sound turned on? - Makes a really big differece to the sound quality.

I am with Snarf on that, though it can be reception dependent with the radio.

Garyw I haven't tried the back seats down yet either. In therory what should make the greatest diffreence is what you put in our around the back seats and how sound abosrbing/radiating it is.

Having spent quite a number of hours commuting to the inlaws and back in Manchester on slow motorways over the weekend I have had a fair chance to re-assess my views.

While obviously not up to it when you compare to the cost of home stereos. For the cost compaired to other in car solutions from manufacturers I think the Bose upgrade is actually very good to the point of being a no brainer upgrade for a potentiall 997 buyer.

Dare I say this ?

Whilst far superior to the boggo system in my Beemer, the Bose is actually not as good as the boggo system in the wifes Scenic !

Sad but true.

:ROFLMAO: There lies one of the best quotes to give a reason to turn the radio OFF and listen to the tune of the motor [;)]

On a side note is everyone aware you can set up the sound low/Hi seperate for each input !
CD, Multi, radio and the Sat Nav voice...
I kept wondering why my Multidiscs kept sounding a bit flat [&:]

Yep the BOSE definately needs fiddling with it to give of its best. changing the settings can make a hughe difference[:D]

Howe ver to support the quote above - when I am not pootling on the motorway and on a back road blast the alternative stereo called the PSE takes precedence, albeit in C2S form its quadraphonic:ROFLMAO:

I agree, I have BOSE and PSE and so far PSE and windows down is winning on every journey although.......

I did give the stereo a blast today with some of France's finest electronica (Laurent Garnier) and it sounded awesome. The only settings I have changed since factory is upping bass and trebble. Will tinker a bit tomorrow with settings.

IMHO, BOSE doesn't cost a great deal as an upgrade. I am heaviliy involved in financing Porsche's and increasingly in sourcing 911's. Most people state it as a must on their shopping list but I have never had a client refuse to buy because the car has it.

Used to listen to the radio on the way to work (15 miles) now I just listen to the engine, as do my neighbours as I always turn the PSE on in the drive

How is the new car?

New car is wonderful!
Only problem is I can't relax when it is parked anywhere other than my drive. I guess that is natural and should get better with time!

I can empathise with your feelings, it does get better with time - but only slightly, the first few stone chips help[:(]. Also reminding yourself that the reason you bought this car was to experience the thrill of driving it and although it looks good sitting on the drive it is at such times an underutilised asset. It is therefore economically irresponsible not to be constantly thinking of somewhere else that you need to be right now.
