Driving around in my 3.2 Carrera,i always wave at other Porsche drivers.Always get a wave from 911(any age),944,968,924,928 etc drivers, but never Boxsters.
Why is this?
When i had my Boxster i always would wave.
When i had my aircooled VW years ago we always waved at each other!!
What is up with you lot!

Dont take this too seriously but if you see me in my Red 84 911 around Kent please wave!

Andrew.

Well I can assure you that if I'd seen you I would have waved.

(And I can also assure you that you wouldn't have missed my car [;)] )

I always wave.
Always seem to get a "what the hell are you waving at" look back from 944's. Modern 911's just ignore, classic 911's usually wave, Boxster's seen to follow the modern 911 attitude, unless the roof is down on both cars when they seem to wave back.

I'm guessing most Club Members (who are interested in the car enough to join a club...) wave, but other people just don't care.

Andrew - trust me, I flash and wave @ all Porsche drivers... They probably think that this 993 driver is bonkers!!

Chris, I'm mildly worried that you can quote a wave to wave return ratio, albeit approximate[;)] I sometimes forget myself and wave to Porsches when I'm in the dogbox (406). They tend to not wave back.[:D]

I think the cars being driven on the roads are often very different from the cars we own as Club types. They aren't like MGs or vintage Minis, silver Porsches are often people's everyday car and they don't see themselves as driving anything at all special.

Mark, if any 944 driver fails to wave back at you take his details and pass them over to me. He will be disciplined.....[;)]

They didn't wave when I owned 944's either...[&:]

Boxsters seem to be populated mainly by Wag looking types up here, and modern 911s seem to be mainly glum/serious looking middle aged men. I dont bother waving at either, but do glance across and would wave back, but generally they dont make eye contact.

Front engined and old 911s (up to 993) I usually get a wave and wave back.

Think its fair to say older cars have a higher percentage of car nuts, and newer ones have more status symbol type owners. Not ALL ofc. Just most. I doubt most modern porsche owners know what a 944 is.

Best waves per mile had got to be in france on way to le mans. Felt like royalty :D

I hate to agree, I never get a wave back from Boxster drivers, when i owned my little 924s I thought it was they simply didnt recognise it, now I have a Bright Red 911, still nothing. I have noticed that Cayenne drivers are even worse than Boxster drivers as they complely ignore you and look back as if you had slept with their daugther or something. Best wavers 944 owners I have found, very friendly or just bonkers both is fine [:D]

I always wave, never flash, as if you do someone will take it as a signal to pull out right in front of you.

Mixed reactions, and it's difficult to generalise, but (and this is extremely tongue-in-cheek):

924, 928, 944, & 968s "" A confused look at first, but then an enthusiastic wave in the realisation that a modern-ish Porsche driver may also be an enthusiast.

986s "" 1 in 4. The ones who have noticed that it's another Porsche going in the opposite direction. Get a lot of confused looks though - no, I don't actually know you.

987s and 997s "" Seldom get a wave back. 90% don't realise it's another Porsche going in the opposite direction. (Unless, of course, it is bright orange, in which case you KNOW it is owned by an enthusiast).

996s "" More often than not. Mainly grey haired bods like me recognising the wisdom of their choice of car, and acknowledging a good decision.

Air cooled 911s "" They are on the lookout for Porsches, so mostly give a semi-reluctant acknowledgement, now that 996's are no longer current models. (Yeah, I'm joking!)
Cayennes "" Never had a wave-back yet (except from my brother, who has one), and I did give up trying for a while, but renewed waving in the hope that one day I'll pass Graeme Davison passing the other way, because he told me off when I admitted I wasn't waving at them.

No one waves at me.
When I try and make eye contact they quickly look away.
No one even tries to race me.

When I had the Boxster I used to get loads of nice comments, people trying to race me every time I took the car out, air-cooled drivers waving etc.

I've become persona non-grata :(

Now that is strange - I seem to get someone trying it on nearly every time I drive mine. Perhaps the business BMW or Audi drivers and the boy racers think an 04 Boxster S isn't going to have much go to it...?

...have noticed that Cayenne drivers .... look back as if you had slept with their daugther or something....

This post has got me trying to remember the expression on the faces of various sets of people I've met when it must be obvious to them that I have indeed slept with their daughter....and I can't remember a particular pattern to it.[;)]

I'm going to start waving at Cayenne drivers to see if their expression brings back memories!

Great thread... I've often wanted to wave but then thought better of it (bottled it, almost) as I live in London and anyone tends to assume any form of communication with strangers is road rage! Actually happened this Saturday when a near identical Boxster passed me, both roofs down, both steadfastly ignoring each other!

So, now I shall wave at every Porsche - especially Boxsters and Cayennes - that I see... you'll probably see me on the BBC London News - "Two Porsche drivers in (mistaken) road-rage incident!"

I did see a Panamera Turbo on the M4 last weekend, looked as if it was on a test-drive with a salesman in the passenger seat and Mr Middle-aged Businessman driving. Was really tempted to give a massively demented wave to see how the salesman reacted!

Could you really not wave at this ......
