Boxster drivers...why dont you wave?

Yes Bristol but not SW England though .....

OK we are waving (or at least my wife Edwina is):

I always try to wave or flash (if on a straight bit of road) mixed response, do feel a total pratt though when I get no response. As has been said, some not interested, some not sure if its a Boxster or a 996, I think we should acknowledge anyone driving the mark, makes me smile.

On the M25 today going towards Heathrow and I caught sight of a 997 joining from the M3... I waved to the driver but he was too busy eating his sandwich to notice... hey ho...

Completely off thread (and indeed forum) but that orange Boxster (which I think looks great) reminds me of an mistake my Dad made when I was a kid in late 70's/early 80's.

He always had Ford Granada company cars and at replacement time one year the fleet manager popped his head into Dads office and asked if he'd chosen his next car. Dad said "just give me a Granada the same" as his current one (not a big one for change, my Dad). Then the guy asked which colour? To this day Dad claims that he was involved in a fairly heated conversation with someone else at the time and without really thinking joked "Bright Orange, of course!" then did not notice that the guy didn't hang around to find the real colour he wanted...

...Dad did not like the punch line of "his joke" which happened a month or so later when a very bright "signal orange" (I think that was the name) Ford Granada turned up that he had to keep for three years!

(Mind you, he was a bit happier a few weeks later one of the better looking Mum's at my football team got a similar colour Escort Mexico or RS).

Sorry - off thread/topic/forum/club - but just reminded me. And I love that Boxster, Nick - might even send my Dad the pic!

Very funny story .... I can assure you that the Orange on my car was no mistake. Now if you're going to send your dad a photo then I should post one that is really bright (Not that any are less Orange!!!):

I always wave or flash my lights when I see another Porsche and am usually dissapointed by a lack of response on the part of the other driver.

If I do get a wave in reply it is usually from another Boxter rather than another model and always from a male driver never a female one (although I wave at both)!

Also a wave in reply is more likely if hoods are down.

When my wife drives topless (I mean roof down!!!) she always gets a wave [:D]

Where did my post go?

You've got a post just above Nick's - Nick has quoted it... Is that the one you mean? I can't see any posts removed - and as Moderator in this section I should be able to [&:]

Is that what you mean?

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]In these here rural parts and when I travel back into civilisation, I always endeavour to give a wave to folks driving anything bearing a Porsche badge. I reckon on getting an acknowledgement from two out of three Boxsters, one in five 911s and have an unblemished 100% record of being ignored by [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Cayenne drivers so[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"] franky have given up with them (perhaps they don't look down much). Females on the whole acknowledge far less often than males, presumably seeing it as coming on or an otherwise unacceptable form of adult male behaviour.

Statistically this pans out as having a greater chance of getting a wave back from a male Boxster or 996 driver on an A road in a rural location.

Please note that this weekends event formally known as the 'Boxster Day at Belvoir Castle' has now been re-branded as the 'Boxster let's practice your waving technique day'!!! [:D]

I'm a waver!

Had too many different cars to mention in the past. The only ones I had that other owners waved was an MG Midget and MINI's. Other Porsche owners look at me like I'm a bit odd when I wave...

When I was driving my Midget in the Seventies ALL other Midget owners would wave[:D][:D]

Saab 96 that takes me back a few years I had 3 of them and one was an Orange colour and all drivers used to wave .As to the Porsche even though I am on my 10 th a Boxster very few now wave used to get more waves in the 90's when I drove the 84 Carrera 911
I think the reason is most buy the car now to say I drive a Porsche rather than the love of the marque ,so now I don't bother my **** now as very few acknowledge the brand

Good post - glad I've stumbled onto it. As a recent member of the clan and a previous MG Midget owner, I had started out waving at Porsches and also shouting a greeting to other topless Porsches ... and got precisely no responses. In an MG any form of cross car communication was always positively received and reciprocated.

As a consequence of my Porsche experiences though I'd begun to lose heart and started wondering if I was the nutter and ended feeling a bit of a self-conscious charlie every time: What started as waving, had morphed into an embarrased and half-hearted window wipe if no response was forthcoming !
But you've given me the confidence to carry on waving (apologies to Sid James) and I'll do it with pride. [:)]
