help, does anyone if its possible to get the plastic rear window repaired if it splits as mine just has. i lowered the roof today when the temp was about 12 degrees as i have done in the past and now have a 4 inch split to show for it.

It can be repaired. A search on the forum should throw up a few threads on the subject.

OPC's however will usually want to replace the whole roof[]

12 Degrees? Where were you - we had hail and snow here!

oooh i feel for you[][]

i don't think they can be repaired but i understand they can be replaced but it's a specialist job so i would expect it's expensive.

well done Digger, thats not as bad a price as i would have thought.i shall have to make a note of his number.

is that for removing split screen and stitching in a new one??

Don't remember if anyone has asked this before, but related to a split rear screen and OPCs keeness to replace the entire hood; does anyone know if it is possible to replace a pre-03 hood with a 03+ hood?

i.e. replace a plastic screen with a cosy, heated, non-spliting glass one.

Apparently not as the whole mechanism will have to be replaced to as the 03> has 4 hoops inside as compared to <03 having 3
eg. Bumps in the roof [;)]

Shame. That would be a useful 'face-lift' option, not to mention a useful fix if your plastic goes.

How we yearn for the warm summer months.

After receiving delivery of my new boxster with plastic window - I visited Porsche factory Stuttgart just after the new window was introduced they offered to replace it for the sum of £3000! thank you very much.

To keep the plastic clean and supple Zymol is the best I have found unless anyone has tried anything better.

The Zymol "gunge" certainly does the job, as for the plastic rear screen..... just what were they thinking of ?????????????

Boxster....... crisp engine, perfect handling, corners like a train, gearbox like a swiss watch, brakes that loosen teeth, plastic rear screen is a pile of cr@p.

I've never tried Zymol, but Hindsight absolutely kicks ass! I treat my back screen twice a year, once just before the summer kicks in and once before I put the hard top on for the winter and its fantastic. It's even reduced the number of times I need to perform the legendary Boxster chop because the plastic screen folds much more easily.

I don't work for Hindsight - honest! [:D]

My wife has had three Boxsters - her current Boxster 'S' for four years.

All have had plastic rear screens and none have given any problems - except for the difficulty of cleaning the inside, and I normally get that job!

Hi Dawn

Is there really such a thing caled Hindsight? I thought that you were joking the first time you mentioned it. Where do you get it from?

Like Oliver's wife, I also find it difficult to clean the inside of the windscreen. I just can't seem to get the wind deflector off, as I'm scared I might break it as it seems awkward. Does anyone else have that problem? A friend of mine has a boxster, and he couldn't get it off either.

Jane
