boxster, plastic window

Jane

I always think that I am going to break it. And as it usually once a year in my case I always end up checking the manual to see that I am doing it right!

JCB..

Hi

Yes I've had the manual out too, but still don't feel confident enough to take it off as it's so stiff.

i take the wind deflecter off when i put the hard top on as it blocks the view out of the back window.

open the clips before trying to remove the deflecter.
be gentle with the clips they are not very strong.

The technique is to start on one side, move the little lever over slightly towards the centre of the car (just a little). Then apply slight pressure downwards, and ease the deflector to the back of the car.

The other side then comes out easy.

Putting it back is almost the reverse, but you don't need to worry about the lever.
Make sure it is secure when you put it back - it will rattle (or depart!) if not securely latched.

I find this works ok anyway - and I have the thing out several times a year to mount a camera to the roll bar.

thank-you for spotting that mine wasn't secure when we met on the sussex run last year, i hadn't notice the rattling[:-](music too loud)

Are the wind deflectors ok to use at speed with the roof down, I'm sure I read somwhere that they were only secure up to 75MPH. I've checked the handbook but can't find anything in there.

I've had mine at 150mph (indicated) roof down on the Autobahn. If it does not exclude it in the handbook then Porsche would have designed it to be ok.

Pull the black clips out to remove the centre section of the W/def. but be careful as if you do this more than a couple of times they go loose and the centre section then rattles (really annoying). I just used to push out the mesh sections in the roll hoops to clean the plastic (can just about reach most of it if your arm is long enough!) and you can do this with the roof in situ.
NB: The glass rear window doesn't get dirty on the inside either & you can see just as much through it as the nasty plastic one! (more usually 'cause it doesn't go opaque)

If you have problems with the clips or break them dont worry too much as they are only a couple of quid from any OPC.

I have part numbers somewhere, I broke one and ordered a couple of spares while I was at it!

Hi

I will try and take it off myself, but if I don't then my car is going in for a service to the OPC next month anyway, so they might be able to show me.

Thanks Mark, I've looked all through the booklets etc I got when taking delivery and can't see anything in there. On reflection it may have been something I was told by the salesman as part of the handover but in my excitement didn't question.

Good to know the speeds you've 'tested' yours, I can put my foot down without nervously watching in the rear view mirror for the deflector to launch into orbit[:)]

Hi Dawn

Is there really such a thing caled Hindsight? I thought that you were joking the first time you mentioned it. Where do you get it from?

lol! Nope, i'm afraid I was deadly serious. As I mentioned i've never used the Zymol so i've not got that for comparison but this is the web site for the Hindsight. I found them through Porsche & 911 World - they advertise in there fairly regularly.

Personally I think this stuff is great.

judging by how the wind deflector is held in and also from the direction my hair flys i would say if it did come off while you were driving it would end up inside the car[8|]

I agree Helen but as for my hair........... It flew a long time ago [:D]

The hindsight seems to have good reviews but a little pricey is it not for such a small kit ?

Now i've managed to get my wind deflector off - like Helen said, whilst i've got the hard top on for the winter.

Just very worried about putting the dratted thing back on and it staying there!

You got it!

I find it odd that people would think that a wind deflector (that protects them from the wind...), mounted behind them, would fly off backwards !

To be fair, i've used it 3 times now and have barely used any of it as you need so little for each application. I don't anticipate having to buy any for at least the next few years so perhaps the price evens itself out.

If it uses very little to do the job then its definately worth it Dawn.

MMMMmmmmmm, may have to get some myself although i polished mine with raceglaze carnauba wax and it also came up a treat

Mark,

I don't profess to be a student off physics but follow the logic. On the boxa net forum there was a thread where several owners had lost the mesh insert behind the headrest and these had flown off backwards. They got round the problem by securing them with fishing line.
