boxster, plastic window

Sorry for coming in so late on the subject of Hindsight. They advertise regularly in Autocar and are contactable on 0131 346 2488, www.hindsight.uk.com or e-mail:convertibles@btinternet.com. So far as the wind deflector clips are concerned I have found that the advice to bear down on the top edge of the plastic whilst opening the clips does work. At the tender age of 71 I do however find it difficult to clean the inside of the rear window, and fear one day I will get stuck!! Hi Helen, long time no speak(grandad on the A22). Happy motoring [:)][:)][:)]

Like everyone I have suffered fogging of the rear plastic window, especially in two areas towards the outside edges. These were above the clips which appear to hold down the engine cover. Please don't laugh, but I have fitted black sheepskin above the 'parcel shelf', and guess what, the problem has eased a lot. Someting to do with oil dust getting through the fastenings onto the plastic?? Only problem, I had to travel to Tavistock to buy a good sheepskin (£36). Good luck.

Hi there everyone,

Just joined the club, so still finding my way around the site.

I have a 2002 Boxster S and my main problem is trying to keep the rear plastic window clear; a nightmare in it's own right. The porsche cleaner does not do a very good job and I have to re-apply every 2-3 weeks. Can anyone recommend a suitable polish/cleaner that does the job that it's supposed to do?

Many thanks

John

I used the porsche cleaner today on the plastic window no improvement so I will use the Zymol tomorrow it does a better job. You can obtain this product (a 2 part kit) from glyn@specialistcarsltd.co.uk Hope this helps.

Be a happy member

John

John,

Thanks for the advice. I ordered the kit and it arrived early this morning; great service!

I applied the gunk and it really has made such a difference, much better than the Porsche cleaner and it smells so much nicer.

Since the sun is out and the sky is blue I think I will go for a run up to Fort William via Glencoe with the roof down and Bat out of Hell blasting out over the glens

just an update on my original question. my opc in belfast is to replace the plastic rear screen with a new one next week. its a four day job and costs an absurd 750 pounds to stitch it in but imagine my relief when i found out my insurance covers it with a 40 pound xs. apparently the new plastic screen is thinner and doesnt give the same trouble as the original ie. glazing, and dimpling. soon find out.

Hi Dawn

Is there really such a thing caled Hindsight? I thought that you were joking the first time you mentioned it. Where do you get it from?

Jane

Jane - You'll find Hindsight at:

http://www.hindsightuk.com/

I've used it. It's MAGIC!

Just thought I'd add my little bit about Hindsight.
I found it very good stuff, but very diificult to apply in the confined space of the rear window on a 911. At around £45 - very expensive as well !
However it does work and I am pleased with the result - once I'd removed the white stains from the surrounding hood and rear roll bar trim!! The two part process is a real pain. One to clean and the other to polish.
A couple of years ago I bought rear screen cleaner from a BMW dealership for my wifes then Z3, as the screen had gone milky. Worked a treat and dead easy to use, with only one part process.
I've used it since on my 911 with equally as good results as Hindsight. The bonus of using BMW cleaner is the price - £9 - and you should be able to use the tube load of times too. I must have used the stuff on 8 windows to date and I still have more than half a tube left.
No more hindsight for me!!

I'm with you on the BMW product Peter...as effective as Hindsight and significantly cheaper.

Hi Jane, With the roof lowered I usually wobble one of the clips towards the deflector perspex then when this undoes the clip i lift the deflector up slightly and do the same to the other clip. So far (2 Years) I have not broken anything.....

My wife has had three Boxsters - her current Boxster 'S' for four years.

All have had plastic rear screens and none have given any problems - except for the difficulty of cleaning the inside, and I normally get that job!

need to do mine - whats the best way of doing this - i take it removing the wind deflector?

You will definitely need to remove wind deflector to gain access. The BMW product as metioned above in the thread is good and is quite cheap, I have also used a product called Renovo which seems to work quite well.

hi wesley

mine split last week so i claimed on my windscreen excess from my insurance company e-car insurance. their windscreen company couldn't repair it so my insurance authorised my local (cardiff) opc to fix it, its costing them £385 and me my £60 excess, i also get to drive a cayenne s for the 3 days it takes to repair. I do know that the opc don't fix it themselves, they use a fella in bristol who will unstich the old perspex and re-stich in a new one - if you go to him directly it should cost about £250

hope this helps

Hindsight rules! I re-proofed my roof with the porsche stuff and it marked my rear screen. NOTHING would get it off. Somebody suggested Hindisght and after one application it looks like new and most of the scratches came out. I am using it on my mates S2000 tomorrow. It has the added benefit of making the plastic more supple so less prone to cracking or creasing in the cold winter months.

Go buy some!
