Building a 400bhp+ 2.5 ltr 944 Turbo

Did you steal the tartan rug out a 1980's Ford Escort? I'm sure they were standard equipment......:p

Ok...well I took Mark's advice and reduced the pressure in both rear tyres by 5PSI and used her to get this weeks shopping. This involves driving the same section of A5 where I last lost traction. It's not a long stretch but the old girl can easily get to silly speeds before the road runs out. I didn't go that mad but did take her past where she last slipped, over the ton.
Result..
No slip, nothing at all, tried again on the way home, still no slip? Perhaps Mark has nailed it although I'm still struggling to accept this for the simple reason there was no feedback from the car when it slipped, nothing, I would have expected to feel the rear squirm at least a little?

I truly hope that it is the tyres as it now seems, much easier job to fix than a clutch..🙂

Thank's Mark for the suggestion, if it doesn't slip next time I take it out I'll be convinced by your prognosis...🙂

Your backside requires recalibration, that and buy some decent new tyres you tight so and so 😊.

Well to be fair, it has grown a little over the decades...perhaps has to much padding to feel anything these days...🤣
 
Some folks on here are too hard with Pete. Everybody knows his 400 bhp figure is widely underestimated or it is the power measured at the spare wheel ;)

To be fair it is a proper alloy spare wheel, thus built for speed...🤣🤣🤣
 
Sounds lovely Pete,Fingers crossed it solves it ,maybe some fresh soft rubber might help as has been suggested? ,tyres age and get hard especially if they have been in an oven during painting,heat cycles from use etc.Both yours and mine must have a similarish power delivery?,power comes in sharply but as long as the steering wheel is straight ahead!,ive often said if mine got pinched and the roads were damp the thief wouldnt get very far as any brutal full throttle input = embedding in nearest ditch .Both mine are sorned at the minute :( no time to organise services or drive them:( The blue one has the seat bolted in for a small person and ive not even been able to drive that at parking speeds :(
 
Hi Mark...yes new rubber is most certainly required and in fact has been for a few years now. Not taken care of yet as the wheels also need a refurb as they leak at the valves and maybe the rims too. Never actually go flat but the fronts go as low as 23 PSI if left too long, rears seem to hold their pressure ok. Mobile refurb companies don't remove the tyres which makes things a little probalmatic as I have no means at home to remove the wheels myself. I'll get it sorted one day, not driven the car since so can't confirm if it is the tyres, I'll try to get out in her next week, there's a monthly meet next Wednesday so will see if anything has changed, if no slip then I will be convinced. I hadn't thought about heat from the oven, that and the tyres already being old and hard points again to them being the problem. Hope you put yours back on the road soon, you know you want too...🙂

I doubt you use the car that much in cold or torrential rain Peter, so it may be worth considering some road legal sticky trackday tyres to cope with your extra power? They generally have less tread depth and wider tread blocks so you get much more rubber in contact with the road. My knowledge is 10 years out of date but back in the day something like the Toyo R888 or Michelin Sports Cups almost had the grip of a full on slick tyre to me.
