Bonkers,your 996 will do 200 mph pretty much!know when u got a good motor!!!!![]
There its another option. A nice man has said he will give me a little box where I can choose MORE BOOST! When I need it ;-) so the 996 gets dull.
I love stories like this! In the days of innocence, before bureaucracy went into overdrive and people were trusted to look after their own pieces of machinery. I recall taking a Mk1 Golf I owned (first car) in for an MOT about 20 years ago, and wandering under the car with the tester. He showed me the only tool they were allowed to use to do MOTs (a cross between a hammer and a screwdriver, stamped with the MOT three triangles) and explained that they were essentially 'trying to make sure that the car won't fall apart if a lorry drives into it' (his words.)

You've made me chuckle!!
When I was about 18 I sold petrol on saturday mornings at a fuel station/garage. I took my really rusty Sunbeam Alpine Series3 for its MOT and cos the tester knew me he took me aside and said 'its never going to pass in a month of sunday's unless you get the rear spring hangers welded up and the brakes done'.
If I write you a pass certificate will you promise to get it done?
oh yes no prob I said!!

I've now owned 3 924s and a 944, and for the last 10 years I've never had the money for a 1600i!
Escorts fall apart much easier than a Porsche, so I agree its all down to rarity now, just look on ebay and see how many 944s there are for sale, then do a search for an RS.

Bear in mind although you may think that RS2000s are expensive, bear in mind you can pay £70k+ for a full-spec new build rally Mk2, sometimes a lot more, and that many 'clubman' spec cars are £15k or more...

£20k? Where?ORIGINAL: Frenchy
A mint RS 1800 yours for 20+k sir......................getting realy silly now, we are in 996 TT terittory
Had a B25 Starfire myself (then a Tiger 100, Suzuki GS 750, Ducati 860GTS, Yamaha XS750 ending up on a Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk II). T'was a heap! Had a knackered auto advance/retard unit that didn't. So I could jam it retarded so I could start the beast or jam it advanced so I could go over 50 mph! But I love thinking about it now.
We're funny in this country. The 911 is SO revered that anything else is considered somehow inferior. Having owned both a 3.2 Carrera and now an S2 I can make my own comparison. No doubt about it, the 3.2 stirred the blood and was chock full of that ole X-Factor of character or charisma. The 944 S2 is a much more competent and useable car and the fun factor is at least as high. I expected it to be bland but its not and in comparison to the 911 it is an absolute bargain. And I'm really enjoying my ownership which is 100% hobby. Would I want another 3.2 Carrera? Nope, I don't think so. Would I add another 944 to my stable?.....You know, I think I would!

Anything will be worth money when it becomes rare if it's mint!

On the subject of MOTs, I've being going to same place for over ten years now and guy still says from time to time I'll give you a pass but sort such and such when you get a chance. What happens then (obviously depending on what it is) is I am fixing whatever he mentioned a week before I go down for the following years MOT, lol, so I dont fall out with him, lol. Great post guys, loadsa good points.
Another question, for a change I am going to hang onto my 86 turbo and hopefully this time I might miss the bottoming out of values and actually have a car that is going to rise in value. Is the 944 going to be future classsic and will values rise accordingly, hoping so as mine is an early turbo which is now in great shape and still sub 100k miles. Or are they just going to leve and stay put? These things are genuinelly hard to predict, whats the consensus?
