Final chapter in the GT3 ARB saga. After a week of speaking to Head Office the Tech Dept have finally decided that my car was not designed (springs, dampers, seats, carpet, wipers etc) to have GT3 parts attached to it and such reckless behaviour would invalidate the warranty. They didn't quite go so far as excluding everything but you can be certain that if something failed they would try very hard to link it - engine in particular.[&:] So, plans on hold till the warranty expires and will possibly seek warranty with a.n.other who will cover mods. My suspicion is that decision is based more on not wanting to set a precedent to allow warranteed upgrades than the ability of the car to cope with them. Right, now about those sticky tyres..............[8D]
PS. I loved the way the OPC's had a collective sharp intake of breath when the word "track" was mentioned. Good Heavens, Sir, how could you consider taking one of our finely honed machines, which is yet but 8 months old, and subjecting it to such torture? We may in future have to remove references from our literature referring to the car being driven in a "sporty" manner.............gadzooks, Sir, you are not supposed to have FUN....etc.etc.etc[:(]

I would personally be more concerned about the stock suspension which sags over the first 10,000 miles or so. The rear sags more than the front and as a result you end up with a car that has it's nose pointing up in the air!! It should be about 1 degree pointing downwards.

Why all 911's (and not just the GT models) don't have ride height adjustable suspension from the factory is beyond me!

Alex, good point.

But I think the major fear is the legal one, fear of a precedent that could go to ,court and open them to have to make more warranty replacements of expensive parts. Or being sued for the results of catastrophic failures on track day's with modded cars even if they have stock Porsche parts from faster cars (GT3/Turbo etc).

I had very interesting talk with the engineers at my OPC before modifying my car - I discussed the changes I had in mind. The general view was that the performance upgrades wouldn't make much difference without the re-map but would make significant difference with a re-map. They also felt it wouldn't effect the chances of something breaking - their view was the generic product was tough enough to withstand a lot more, the issue being that one in every so many is destined to an engine failure or RMS or Suspension failure - and that was going to happen what ever you did ie If my car was going to break, modding it wasn't really going to effect the chances of it happening.

The then follow up conversation about could they then provide some form of extended warranty cover was still a no - they didn't want to set a precedent of providing what would become effectively personal warranties depending what you have done to your car.

BTW - has any one found a worthwhile alternative extended warranty for modified cars. I'd still be interested in some kind of warranty cover.

That's two of us then. Possibly Euros got something to do with it? I'll see if the Gen 2 follows the same pattern, if so I'll see what's to be done about that as well! Buy a GT3?.....................Anyway, Chris started all this, putting ideas in my head, bless him![;)]

You could put "warranty" into the search, Tom, but then you'd spend the next 3 years reading the search results! I seem to recall some mention of warranty and modded cars somewhere fairly recently?

That is the very problem - lots of "warranty providers" not many good/ sensibly priced one. it struck me as a bit of a needle in haystack. So I wondered if any forum members have some they would recommend - if needs be email me the names to avoid any on line moderation being required.
