Cayman GT4 RS

Blimey, that's a spot of luck! Given the short lead time that could be cancelled order I guess, but who cares - congratulations!

Thank you Twinfan, likely a cancellation as you say. It was a (nice) surprise to learn it would be here so fast. I do love my normally aspirated Porsches (I had lovely 981 Boxster Spyder in GT silver that I sold in lockdown and have regretted it ever since and I also still own a 991.2 GT3 (manual) bought second hand that is an amazing car, but this one may just be the pinnacle). I have some track days booked so will be very keen to try this out where it will shine most, I hope.

I will be posting more information about the car and eventually some photos when it's delivered. BTW the Swindon OPC reckoned they might get around 5 of these during the entire production run, given their size and amount of business they do. Some dealers will get a few more cars and some, apparently, won't get any or maybe just 1. Now I'm just back off to You Tube to watch some more reviews and to get excited all over again.

Had you expressed interest in the GT4RS prior to your visit? I assume you must have and they didn't just randomly offer you one...

That’s right. On launch, I dropped them a note. I was told that they only expected to be allocated one car (now they think they may get a just a couple more) and reading between the lines of their very polite reply, I was not going to get it! Whatever has changed, I’m very happy.

Hi all,

I read the comments about how hard these cars are to come by - but here is a bit of positive counterpoint. I have been a customer of Dick Lovett Swindon for a few years now. Today, I went in to look at buying a 911 Targa at some point next year/early the year after and to maybe put down a deposit. My usual contact there met me with a little twinkle in his eye. We sat down and chatted Targa. He knows that although the Targa would not be for the track, in the past I have used my cars enthusiastically, shall we say. We were sitting in the configurator room and he flashed up the GT4 RS on the screenand asked me if I liked it and how I would spec one if I was given a blank canvas. I said I did and we specc'd it (artic grey, Weissach pack, ceramics, magnesium alloys.) He disappeared for a few minutes and on his return asked me if I wanted that car - he had a slot available - only their second. I was gobsmacked. The answer was of course, yes! The car will be built in February 2023 and will be with me in March, just in time for some spring track days. Goodness, Christmas came early!! So, do not despair, talk to your dealer, you never know your luck. :)

Incredible, congrats. Wow…

It sold for over £220k!!. Must be £85K more than cost of the car (including options fitted). But I won't be flipping mine when it arrives, no sireee, Im going to drive it!

History says that the CC item will soon be back on sale ....

Have noted some crazy interior dB levels from a few road tests

Yes, £227k plus fees. Someone either really wants one or is very confident that the market is strong enough for a profit. If suspicions are correct and there will be no more right hand drive ones produced, then he/she is probably OK.

I have to admit to looking at LHD options on some cars, as I calculated that more than 50% of my annual mileage is in mainland europe. But it does create issues for insurance. Has anyone had experience of this?

RS's? Just not sure Dave, but I dont see availability other than what is already in the pipeline. It may be that OPC's have not been told one way or another yet. I do suspect that RHD cars might be the first to be cut in terms of supply. It could be seen as an unnecessary complication and cost in the global market place.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the RS. Will it finish with the rest of the range when the Cayman goes electric, or will they continue it whilst legally allowed to do so, selling at a higher price point in certain niche markets which are willing to pay?

Given the factory tooling required, I think once the 718 dies then the GT4RS dies. The Cayman/Boxster will push electric sports cars for Porsche in my opinion.

I also think that we'll get a few more allocations to the UK of the GT4RS yet. The next quarter of allocations for all cars is next month-ish, so maybe the odd car or two per OPC will keep trickling out. I think 5 or 6 per OPC in total over the run sounds about right, making 250 cars for the UK.

There will be a lot more per country in LHD and non-EU markets I suspect.

The best example of why the 911 platform should be my next venture, if only on a PEC day [:)]

... and why not :ROFLMAO:

Well, not driven on the track yet (give me a couple of months though[;)]) but have just covered the first 150 miles running-in this car having taken delivery a few days ago ago. And boy is it good - balance, gear-change, noise etc. it is incredible (and I still have to open up the 7-9k rev range after the run-in is over). I have a 991.2 GT3, just sold a 992 Turbo and I'd take this over either of them, no question. This car has been feted by the motoring press and I can see why, total gem.

(and I still have to open up the 7-9k rev range after the run-in is over).

What have Porsche said regarding running the car in? From the above you've taken it to 6999 Rev/min so far!

Regards

Bill

I had a passenger ride in a GT4RS recently and from memory the owner was telling me that there's a 7k rev limit for 900 miles. It's the same as for a 992 GT3.

The cars absolutely fly and they're LOUD when on it - I couldn't talk to the owner as the revs climbed without shouting. It's the closest experience to a superbike that I've ever had in a car. Throttle response is instantaneous.

There's no doubt that the GT4RS is class, but there is still an awful lot to be said for the 981 and 718GT4, particularly if you push your luck on track --- or are simply at the mercy of others in everyday traffic.

We all know that trackday insurance is getting harder to access ... the reason is that the PSM systems can't defy the laws of physics and the later GT3's and now GT4RS with all their carbon fibre and composite frippery are costing a fortune to repair ... and they are being crashed. A roundabout miscalculation created an insurance claim for a friend of mine £25k for front trim, bumper, wing, bonnet and painting ...

What would that be for a front PU, ali bonnet and steel wing on a normal GT4 ? £5k ? Which still feels like quite a wedge.

Add to this the convenience of five stud wheels over centre-locks and, I'd be hard pressed to stump up the extra for a GT4RS ... even if my local OPC could be polite about the idea of possibly one day offering to sell me one. I keep reminding them but can't decide if I am just being a nuisance ... they have the spec.

P.S. I no longer insure for trackdays ... excesses had increased to 15% of the value of the car so I have at least a £10k fighting fund ... and I get to choose who repairs it :)
