Cayman Register Stuttgart Museum Trip July 2013

So far 5 cars wanting to go in July, 2 R's in Peridot, the others being S's not a bad start and it would be fine to sort out how we suit everyone, may well be more signing up after Christmas. In January we'll start discussing how we will schedule a meet up on route, the route and then what we do from there.

Kevan, If I don't go on the official FV then add me to the list, July is OK for me as long as not when the school hols have started i.e. ferrys crowded out[;)] Chris

Ok Chris, a good point ref school holidays and I'm sure most will agree with early July.

Just one point, my main interest is in the Factory Visit, having seen the museum in April 11 during RW's FV, so this would mean a Mon-Thurs visit if that works out for everyone else, Kevan.

Chris, I know that the factory closes through August and that Richard runs his FV's April and September but I'll see if it is possible to arrange a factory visit in early July although it may be a case of them having a list to join. I'm still hoping for a group of 6 to 10 cars as a larger party may cause difficulties in hotel bookings etc but if we have a larger group we'll just need to sort it.

Hi Kevan Just been looking in the diary. The first week/weekend in July is the Goodwood Festival of Speed. I think the W/B 8th would be better if people wish to do both . Alun

Sounds like a great idea! I'd love to go but after several trips away last year I'm seriously limiting 2013 expeditions, especially car based ones to help the mileage. The factory and museum is great, make sure you get the photo in front of the musuem will be great to see a bunch of caymans in front of there. The words "fuck" and "it" just popped into my head there, I almost talked myself into going!

Ok, so far there are approx 7 cars plus I know of one other not on the list who has emailed to say he wishes to join us, 2 hotels local to the factory have been recommended with secure parking, The Golden Leaf, Zuffenhausen ( approx Ă‚ÂŁ120 for two nights for a double room ) is a few minutes walk from the Museum and The Adler, in Asperg which is a bit more expensive ( around Ă‚ÂŁ220 ) is about 10Km away but is more traditional. I've looked these up on the 'net. I'll also contact Porsche Cars GB concerning the possibility of a factory tour. If we each either individually or in small groups of 2 or 3 cars plan our routes to meet up on the Monday somewhere in Belgium then it should be ok for a short convoy drive of around 3-4 hrs to whichever hotel we can arrange. If we arrive in the pm we can socialise for the evening and then we can hopefully do the factory and museum visits on the Tuesday followed by another evening in Stuttgart then drive wherever the different parties wish to, on the Wednesday, some may wish to hot tail it back to the UK while others may wish to go elsewhere.

Taking into account the Goodwood festival of Speed 11-14th July, the requests for the week of 8th July and the requirement for a factory visit. If we schedule to arrive in the Zuffenhausen district on the evening of Sunday 7th July then we can visit the museum ( obligatory photos outside the Museum for PP ) and hopefully the factory on the Monday ( maybe Tuesday for those desperate for the factory visit we'll see ) a sociable evening on the Monday and then those wishing to go to Goodwood have adequate time to travel there and others can either drive back as a group by way of Reims to sample the Champagne or travel elsewhere on a touring holiday or whatever they wish. The outgoing route I would suggest to be by way of Eurotunnel or Dover Ferry which allows those with a lengthy drive before the crossing chance for a good meal and to stretch their legs, some may wish to travel the whole way from the crossing on the Sunday while others wish to start out on the Saturday. We have approx 8 cars so far which is sufficient for a register outing. For me, it is 775 mls according to the GPS going by way of Calais bypassing Brussels and on towards Cologne then down to Stuttgart, to Dover is a little over 200 mls and I'm quite happy to drive down to Dover on Saturday evening, late ferry to Calais and take a break in Belgium, others will prefer other options. Now we need to discuss the hotels ( 2 suggested ) methods of paying etc. We can sort each item individually which prevents problems of waiting for finance to arrive before booking etc of course 8 cars can mean between 8 and 16 people and so it will be 8 rooms at hotels local to the museum. Confirmations of numbers/car and such will be needed for me to attempt to arrange a factory visit which may have limited availability, I'll also confirm availability of the museum access which should be ok as it is open most of the year.

I now have 8 places booked for the Factory Tour on Tuesday 9th July at 2pm ( sorry but 8 was all the places they could offer ) which means we can set the arrival date for Sunday evening or Monday and those wishing to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed can then leave either Tuesday evening or Wednesday and drive back to catch the overnight ferry to the UK. Others can carry on with their own plans such as mine which is to drive down to the Alps and Gmund. I am still needing to hear from those wishing to attend concerning numbers of cars ( last count made it 8 ) and number of beds/rooms and the names etc to arrange reservations. Due to varying travel requirements we will each need to organise our own channel crossings. I will email all of those already expressing a commitment as preferential entries for the factory tour.

As stated a short time ago I have 8 places available for the factory tour since someone asked for it and I would like to fill them but to get reservations in the hotel we will need to book separately or arrange a group booking but that cannot be done without a list of those to attend and so far they are very few, I am proposing that we use the Golden Leaf Hotel which is just a short distance from the museum and after earlier discussions the dates should suit everyone who responded initially. Can I have more positive responses please?

Hi Kevan - back in December I showed an interest in this, but since then my wife has changed jobs and her new rota & exams will prevent us from attending this tour. A shame but I'm sure there will be other dates in the future that will fit in with our calenders. Dan.

Ok Dan, I've taken you off the prospective list for this year, thanks for letting me know.

Hi Kevan I have deceided to attend the Annual Porsche Festival at the Silverstone Classic in July & go to the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013 as I have my name down for the all new Porsche Macan baby SUV & it maybe being launched at this show but many thanks for keeping me upto date with thing & I hope you have a lovely Factory & Museum trip & I'll get to visit the Porsche Museum at some point. Yours truly Kevin.[:)]

Hi Kevan Do you have our names down for the factory tour can not remember if I did. Alun

Hi Alun, Yes, I had you down for the tour as I thought you would be interested. To bring you up to date, we have had 3 drop out for good reasons which I won't go into, two are above anyway which brings us down at present to 5 cars and I think 8 people and so all on the trip at present have places on the factory tour, one or two may not want this and so if/when others decide to join us we will possibly be able to accommodate them too. But we need to sort out the block booking of the hotel. I will do that soon.
