Cayman Residuals

ORIGINAL: dyllan the 997 ext and interior are-the steering wheel buttons are not THAT much different from mine and yes it will be perhaps a whole sec faster(more with sport chrono admittedly)but is it worth another huge depreciation hit-i dont think so
Dylan you left off one of the major changes that could make the depreciation hit worth every single penny "Intregrated Exhaust Tips" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

somewhat amusingly opc rang this morning trying to tempt me to a gen 2 997 and pretended there was no depreciation problem........!!!mmmmmm

He must be following this thread and started to smell the coffee too [:D]

Oh dear, after the cataclismic falls in value over the last few months, I was assured that Cayman residuals would now stabilise. However, the rot continues... according to Glasses Guide, a 07 Cayman S dropped £800 in value in June. [:(] Still, I suppose we must be thankful for small mercies, 997 Turbo dropped cosiderably more. Good news for buyers of secondhand Porsches though [:D]

absolutely! was at r21 concours evening at opc hatfield this evenong and spotted a very high spec 997TT 9/12 old-down- even at opcprices -at £89k-at least 20k off new and he was prob given 80k p/ex-40k loss for the year-makes your £17k loss in 15months look piffling eh derek?!! BTW saw a beautiful white cab with red interior and white sportdesigns and white seatbacks-just what you need[:D]

Hi all, first post on PCGB. I just stepped into ownership last weekend - with an 07 Cayman S. I managed to save £15k off list buy getting a 1 year old car with 13k on the clock! I was quite surprised to be honest, and that included nearly £2k off the advertised price by haggling hard (not in an OPC - but at a Porsche specialist dealer). People aren't buying cars right now, so good deals to be had when buying used for sure! How much do you think you can bring an OPC down on a £40k used car at the moment? More than £2k?

How much do you think you can bring an OPC down on a £40k used car at the moment? More than £2k? before my test of the gen2 with pdk on monday i asked about a c4s 18 months old -was on at £62900-he reduced it by 5k to £57900!!! there are really big deals everywhere at the moment-try any offer in the current market.but 1yr old cars will always be the best bargains-as thats when they lose the most-some people just enjoy speccing a new car and enjoying that first owner feeling, and if you can afford it why not?!!youre a long time dead!!-my cayman was £50k 2yrs ago now worth prob £30k but i wouldnt have missed the last 2yrs new ownership for anything, and it still feels like new to me (and probably will for years to come-when depreciation curve is nice and flat![:D])

I feel like a bit of a vulture sitting on a post waiting. IMHO the Cayman is the only real "Sports Car" that Porsche make these days. I don't like convertibles but am delighted (from an entirely mersonary point of view) that Boxsters can be had for under £10K. Sorry guys but the Cayman is sure to follow. Like the 944 was in its day, The Cayman has been stifled by Porsche marketing people so it doesn't overshadow their squashed Beetle derivatives. As such it has fantastic potential for tuners to unlock the Caymans true performance. With money as it is there is a probability that some who might have bought a Beetle will buy a Cayman making subsequent 2nd had stock more plentiful. Unfortunately this will hit Cayman residuals even more. The cheaper the Cayman is the less afraid people will be of modifying them. Equally, those that might have looked at "upgrading" to a Beetle may now consider other options in unlocking their Caymans true potential to a point which it will out perform its big brother (and therefore most cars on the road/track today). Higher demand for tuning products will bring down prices and speed development. Club racers are already looking round for cheap Caymans and racing and tracking cars is a great way to find out what works and what doesn't. I see Caymans rising as "The enthusiasts sports car of choice" and am relishing the point when I no longer need 2+2 seats. Don't get me wrong I'm not some Chav looking towards neons and "Look at me" decals. As we have done with 944s I have every confidence there is a significant number of Porsche parts which could be harvested to further improve the Cayman. GT3 brakes could, no doubt, be fitted without too much ingenuity. An LSD has to be high on the list and 911 engines raped for their goodies. Porsche have even hinted that they can't really develop the Beetle any further so would, perhaps, be delighted if they could focus their attentions on the Cayman. If Cayman sales grown (being the cheaper alternative to a Beetle) perhaps even Porsche will start to move the car up the pecking order. I think you chaps have a Classic in the making. Not that it helps my cause for cheap 2nd hand Caymans but perhaps the only way you will now make money on yours it to lock it away for 20 years.

Sorry, a newish car will never match a savings account over 20 years. [;)]

It does sound like a modern classic with great modification potential. But are they really built to last for 20 years ?economical servicing after 10 years ?- not according to a very experienced Porsche mechanic i know.

Well at least New Labour or Bliar/Brooon Labour have something to show for 11 years of all pain & no gain for the hard working taxed to the eyeballs population [:'(][][:'(]

Very depressing reading about the 997 Turbo, then I thought you have it for 8 months has the depreciation been worth it. The head says no the heart says yes [:D] You pay to play, and its a lot better than boating.

That could be something of a downer then. Provided they don't rust baddly or get floppy shells most mechanical issues can be worked around.

Complex electronics that deteriorate with age and are rapidly outdated. The expertise/equipment for diagnostics will be a problem even if parts are kept available !

This makes interesting reading: [link=http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/consumer/article.html?in_article_id=449408&in_page_id=5&ito=1452]http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/consumer/article.html?in_article_id=449408&in_page_id=5&ito=1452[/link] Can any of us afford to trade up for new? Luckily I got a reasonable price before things got really bad. By the way, please don't let Cayenne owners see this [:)]

John can you point me in the direction of the information you have regarding Porsche not being able to continue to develop the 911?
