Cayman Residuals

ORIGINAL: John Sims I feel like a bit of a vulture sitting on a post waiting. IMHO the Cayman is the only real "Sports Car" that Porsche make these days. I don't like convertibles but am delighted (from an entirely mersonary point of view) that Boxsters can be had for under £10K. Sorry guys but the Cayman is sure to follow. Like the 944 was in its day, The Cayman  has been stifled by Porsche marketing people so it doesn't overshadow their squashed Beetle derivatives. As such it has fantastic potential for tuners to unlock the Caymans true performance. With money as it is there is a probability that some who might have bought a Beetle will buy a Cayman making subsequent 2nd had stock more plentiful. Unfortunately this will  hit Cayman residuals even more. The cheaper the Cayman is the less afraid people will be of modifying them. Equally, those that might have looked at "upgrading" to a Beetle may now consider other options in unlocking their Caymans true potential to a point which it will out perform its big brother (and therefore most cars on the road/track today).  Higher demand for tuning products will bring down prices and speed development. Club racers are already looking round for cheap Caymans and racing and tracking cars is a great way to find out what works and what doesn't.
I agree with this 100% John. After the long winding thread we had on the 44 forum about 911's the only conclusion I came to is to wait until the cayman S is down to £20K and then move on to one of those. Sadly for Cayman S owners but great for us is that we don't need to wait to long. I found a Cayman S being sold privately for £26K a few weeks back. By spring I have little doubt that the £20K Cayman S will have already become a reality.
 
all things relative[:D] aston vantages are at 2yrs old getting less than half thier purchase price-loads on pistonheads for really silly money[:eek:] noone will buy my cayman s for 20k cos it isnt being sold[:D] as someone else said you only suffer from depreciation if you sell.imo its such a brilliant car the only person who will get my beautiful low mileage machine is my son! then i can justify getting a 997 tt or c2s with pdk[;)]

Asking prices and achieved prices taken into consideration and your £20K Kman will be available this side of Christmas IMO [&o]
 
Maybe some are going very cheaply, but some are used commercially, are hard used, high mileages with few options fitted. Just enjoy the best mid engine coupe around, put extras on if you want them, I know there are one or two I'm planning on in the next couple of years & I won't consider changing to a 911. The first Porsche road car to wear the badge was mid engined ( Old No 1 ) and is usually on show in the factory museum, so rear engines came later and were due to Ferdinand wanting to put a rear seat into the car his son Ferry had built so it can be said that it was a trend which came later. You may have guessed by now that my Cayman S ( best car Porsche have produced to date ) will be with me for some time to come.[:)] Ferry was the true father of Porsche as a car manufacturer, my favourite quotation from Ferry Porsche has long been "At Porsche we only build Sports Cars"[:)]
 
Of course, have you considered that with prices this low, no one, but no one will trade in for a new one. Hence Porsche will sell hardly any. Hence they will become rare. Hence second hand Cayman prices will rise [:)]

If they become too rare servicing and parts will rocket [:D] In meantime back to real world and study these trends:- THE LOSERS - UK sales volumes falls, year-to-date 2008 Aston Martin -26 percent Bentley -18 percent Chrysler -20 percent Citroen -13 percent Honda -10 percent Jeep -20 percent Land Rover -16 percent Lexus -24 percent Peugeot -13 percent Porsche -27 percent Renault -16 percent Saab -25 percent Suzuki -13 percent
 
In meantime back to real world and study these trends dereks point exactly!! people are buying less new so avoiding depreciation[:D](only occurring at time of sale/trade up!)
