First impressions are the usual awsome ones.

This is one heck of a car. Utterly and absurdly quick even without the Sport or Sport Plus button pressed.

Took some photo's but left the camera at work so pics will be up later if that's ok with moderators.

... Just felt the need to tell someone!

Greg

I don't suppose you left the camera at work so you would have to go and collect it in your new car[;)]

i hate you very much

enjoy your new car[:D]

That's perfectly ok & understandable. I need a good kicking for the sheer indulgence of it all.

Camera shots tomorrow.

Best regards,

Greg

This is one heck of a car.

I took delivery of a 997 Turbo 'S' in July (my 12th new Porsche).

Have to say, my first impressions were a little disappointing [&:].

Now I've never quite engaged with the Turbo models, but for practical reasons, and from initial feedback ,advice and experience, I was hopeful that the new models would be much better. However, I like tactile cars, with sensitive steering, a great sound, a long 'elastic' power delivery, and I'd spent the previous three years driving a 997GT3, the previous couple of weeks with a brilliant little Boxster 'S', and drove up to the dealership in a 2.7RSL.

So, by my standards, the Turbo felt a bit too clinical, not enough feedback, engine noise too subdued, ride too firm, steering a bit numb... Fast, yes, stupendously fast in fact - much faster than any GT3, but power delivery too sudden.

Well, two months on, I can report that it has grown considerably in my affections. With mileage, everything has settled nicely, I'm much more in tune with the chassis and the steering sensitivity. The PDK is very clever - although I generally use it in auto with manual override and the sport button on (pasm normal). The engine noise has improved and has grown on me, the ride is far more settled and compliant - probably the nicest of any 911. I wouldn't modify the Turbo, but I did have it checked and subtly set up by CG, which has improved the turn in and, surprisingly, ride and tyre noise.

It is an astonishingly competent GT car, munching up long distances with ease, yet great fun on tight twisty B roads, whatever the weather, and very practical - the 911's usp - seats in the back and 25mpg. Very clever car, and yet another great achievement from Porsche. Think I'll keep it [;)]

Looking forward to the seeing the pictures..
I know what you mean about having to tell someone [:D]

Mike, I firmly believe that Porsche have a cracking line up with the GT3 and Turbo in the stable. [8D]

Mike,

I smiled when I read your note as your comments mirror my feelings almost exactly.

When I first got my Gen 1 Turbo I felt a little dissapointed for all the reasons you list but I grew to love it for its strenghts and I do miss it. My current Gen 2 GT 3 is all the things the Turbo isnt but the Turbo is still a great road car. If ever I win the lottery I would have both as they each have unique characters that you only get to truly understand and appreciate once you have lived with the cars for a few months.

The GT 3 knocks the spots off the Turbo for driving enjoyment on a circuit. It stops better due to less weight, turns in better handles better carries more speed through the corners has fantastic feedback, makes a great noise etc etc but is slower down the straights and the harnesses which make you feel as one with the car on the circuit are a pain on the road as they get in the way. I find the GT 3 a little frustrating on the road as to really enjoy it you have to push it and if you do that it gets illegal and antisocial very quickly. I found I enjoyed using the Turbo on the road more partly because to enjoy the GT 3 you need to carry the speed whilst with the Turbo you can use that awesome torque for short bursts.

I feel privileged to have owned and enjoyed both. They are both fantastic cars but they are very different

I don't think anyone would mind even if you had (and you haven't)! Very nice Greg and, not usually being a fan of any lettering on the side, I like the discreet door decals. Those two tone seats are very easy on the eye too. Welcome to the world of PDK and enjoy those paddles![;)]

[8D] how much better does it look in the sun...

Completely agree with Alan with the scripts and seats...

How - they are stored on photobucket not the PCGB servers?!

Anyway, looks great Greg!! A little disappointed however you didn't go for an aerokit [:(]. If I were to order another Turbo that would be the first option I ticked...

Thanks everyone. The country lanes where I'm based often have grass growing in the middle like a sort of long Brazilian strip (if you see / imagine what I mean) and anything lower than the standard front lip spoiler would act like a shaver & do all sorts of nasty things to it. Sorry, relevance being that the aerokit is sort of ruled out.

Spyderman, yes I'm over the moon about the white.

The decals on the side were a bit of a gamble but thought the 911 GTS & GT2RS ones looked good. None available for the Turbo S from Porsche but Colin at swiftsigns did a very good job. I have no commercial link with them. www.swiftsignsbristol.co.uk (am I allowed to put their web address on here??).

PDK is Ok I suppose but I'll need to get used to it, preferring a manual box that's been in all the other ones.

Best regards,

Greg

Looks even better when dirty

One of the Germans who plays for Celtic has one and in the winter we regularly saw it passing by on way to training ground and it was always dirty and still looked great(better even)
