Cotswolds 2008 Weekender[/b]
Cotswolds Weekend 2008 Saturday 10th and 11th
After the success of last year's event in the Cotswolds and taking on board of the comments and requests from members we are pleased to announce the return to the Cotswolds for the 997 register.
However this year it will take place over the weekend of May 10th and 11th with an overnight stop in the heart of the Cotswolds in Broadway.
This year we will have much more time to explore many of the towns that make the Cotwolds the interesting area that it is... added to that some new roads to the routes that are just as incredible as those previously visited, however we will be visiting some of the most memorable ones from the 2007 trip.
As with previous 2 day events any members are free to join us on either of the days for the drive if they so wish
Day 1 (91 miles 3 hours)
Starting at Gaydon Heritage museum as there is a cafe and toilets.
A chance to visit the museum and prepare to leave at 11am.
This also gives those travelling a distance chance to get to the meet without leaving at a silly o'clock time.
We head out high towards the Cotswolds hills, back on ourselves to Sun rising and Edge hill, a single excellent hairpin half way up the hill. Followed by long straight country roads going towards Shipston on Stour .
From there to Chipping Norton for our first stop, Through Heythrop once again (for some of us) before turning left up the A44, We are planning a short stop at the Shell Petrol Station then after a few miles we cut back onto the smaller roads passing Jeremy Clarkson's home, from there we plan to follow the last cruise through Churchill onto Bourton on the water, where we are planning to stop for 2 hours to allow time for visits to the Cotswold Motor Museum or Birdland...(or the shops and Pub) It is an ideal place to take a light lunch.
From there cutting across the hill to Lower Slaughter, Snowshill, across to Chipping Campden stopping off at Dovers Hill which looks across the Cotswolds and the Jurassic way. Then onto Broadway for the overnight stop where a group dinner booking is being organised.
*Please contact us for Hotel booking information. We have various options to suit all budgets, Historic, contempary or traditional
Day 2 (81 miles 2.5hours )
Departing early morning to allow time for people to wander around the wonderful village of Broadway, we start on the A44 and Fish Hill and make our way via Stow on the Wolds stopping for an hour. Then cross country to Chipping Camden and rejoin the quick twisty road to Illmington, left at the end towards Stratford and Ragley Hall which we have free entry for. Stop there and then towards Alcester, from there across to the longest aquaduct in England.. Henley in Arden turning towards Warwick where we cut through Snitterfield across to our late lunch venue...
From there to Warwick and the M40...
This time we hope to get a balance for those from around the UK to witness the delights that the Central and northern Cotswolds have to offer.
This event will be strictly limited numbers.
In order to confirm the dinner booking and accommodation you have until the end of March to show your interest.
