I take it that's the cover car. The mag is sitting next to me now but all I have read is the 3.0 Turbo article. I intend to read about Mark K's car then probably bin it. I'll take my Cayman S review from Evo and my own test drive, thanks, but I may skim the 911 stuff I guess. Anyway I started with the squashed Beetle and I have never been anything but open about my liking for proper air-cooled 911's. Having owned a Carrera 3.0 and a 3.2 Sport I can say there was not a lot of difference between the two especially given that the SC generation sat between them in chronology. Recently I drove a 964 Tiptronic cab a very short distance and it was like night and day in terms of the drive. Anything pre-964 is like an agricultural vehicle in other words whereas the 964 felt like a more modern vehicle but still with a full-on shot of the 911 gene and with a proper roof and gearstick it would have been lovely. I suspect the 993 is similar again but until I actually receive a redundancy payout I can't actually afford a 993 - at least without extracting some long term savings which are not for cars. It might take a bit of persuasion of SWBMO before I can sell the idea and it might impinge on the 944 development a bit but really a nice 964 to use as a daily driver when the weather is not grotty is eminently more sensible than trying to keep up with the Smiths (as opposed to the Joneses) with a 3.0 turbo engine, isn't it? I'd have to go 16 valve if I did it which I imagine would more than double the budget for an 8v.

Thanks! Having spent many a happy hour in Beaky at night recently I am very pleased with what was a £2.50 upgrade. - I got two LED light strips free with a Chav mag. I only bought the mag because of the LEDs though.
To the parallel thread []
The 964 front bumper spoiler doesn't look anything like as authentic as the one the fits the SC. There is obviously much more junk behind the bumper of a 964.
Not that it is an issue I'm going to have to contend with for a good time yet.

If that had been the case I wouldn't even have mentioned it. [] They were a damn good buy as IIRC they are £7 in Helfrawds so I got the LED's at a £2 discount with a free girlie comic. I think one of the other mags, Redmist or Fast Chav, is doing them currently as afreebiee if you are interested.

John,
Just wonder what is the spec of the LEDS and where are the power cable attached to - exisitng switch?
Hi Charles,
Congratulations on pulling this thread from the archives - (It is strange to read all of the off thread side issues from so far back in the past).
I can't give you the full spec on the LED's as, I'm afraid, I threw away the packaging. However, they come in a blister pack of two strips with wires. Each strip is 70mm long and 8mm wide with two LEDs at 21mm centres.
I intercepted the feed to the ash tray light (redundant in my case any any way) as this seemed to be the nearest convenient light source. If you unclip the gear lever gaiter there is enough room to run a feed wire back from the ash tray area without taking out the centre console.
When connecting the LED's remember they are polarised (unlike incandescent bulbs). If they don't seem to work first time it could be you have your wires crossed.
I put a plug connector on my feed to allow easy removal of the cubby box (and AFR gauge in my case).

How can you see to tap the ash from your cigar without the ashtray light? [8|]
I've often wondered what was going through the designer's mind when he decided that the ash tray was more important at night than the switchgear!

The cheapskate version (a.k.a the smith version []) is just to move the ashtray bulb to beneath the switches and it illuminates them from below - sort of [&:]
But we know where the switches are, we just don't know what they do - and I am convinced some automotive poltergeist swaps them around in the dark.

Without pulling all the switches out, does anyone know offhand exactly what switches should be illuminated on the dash/console/panels etc?
For example my centre console has the central locking switch illuminated but not the door mirror switch or roof switch.
Also is the headlight knob supposed to be lit up?
Any ideas guys?
