I take it that's the cover car. The mag is sitting next to me now but all I have read is the 3.0 Turbo article. I intend to read about Mark K's car then probably bin it. I'll take my Cayman S review from Evo and my own test drive, thanks, but I may skim the 911 stuff I guess.
Anyway I started with the squashed Beetle and I have never been anything but open about my liking for proper air-cooled 911's. Having owned a Carrera 3.0 and a 3.2 Sport I can say there was not a lot of difference between the two especially given that the SC generation sat between them in chronology. Recently I drove a 964 Tiptronic cab a very short distance and it was like night and day in terms of the drive. Anything pre-964 is like an agricultural vehicle in other words whereas the 964 felt like a more modern vehicle but still with a full-on shot of the 911 gene and with a proper roof and gearstick it would have been lovely. I suspect the 993 is similar again but until I actually receive a redundancy payout I can't actually afford a 993 - at least without extracting some long term savings which are not for cars.
It might take a bit of persuasion of SWBMO before I can sell the idea and it might impinge on the 944 development a bit but really a nice 964 to use as a daily driver when the weather is not grotty is eminently more sensible than trying to keep up with the Smiths (as opposed to the Joneses) with a 3.0 turbo engine, isn't it? I'd have to go 16 valve if I did it which I imagine would more than double the budget for an 8v.![. [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]](/forum/styles/default/pcgb/space.gif)
