Cup bargain

ORIGINAL: clubsport

I am intrigued how the 964 cup was converted to a 993 RSR.....engine is one thing, you could change the wings, but what about the rear suspension set up.....???

Paul I have sent details. If you want pic and history pm your email.

Hacki the 42 car has Italia all over it. I have the Minichamps model.

Charles, Tks for the info in your email, so it is basically a 993 RSR engine fitment amongst other things,,,which is clearly not a bad thing...cheers.

That's an interesting observation. That's where the car was notionally based during the 1991 season, albeit delivered new to the Walchers in Italy, that's what the Porsche AG invoices state, but shipped to armin Knupfing who ran the car and one other. As you probably know, Knupfing was a key member of the Porsche Motorsport team engaged to design the 964 Cup in 1989.

As Charles states the car carried the Porsche Italia colours but only, I believe, for one race in 1991. For the rest of the season it had a white shell, fluorescent orange bumpers and a similar coloured arrow over the roof and flowing on to the bonnet (most of the video footage of the 1991 season shows the car in those colours).

Damen,

I think Enrico Walcher was teammate to Andy Bovensiepen in the Porsche Zentrum Bielefeld team. Maybe Armin Knüpfing ran that car, I don´t remember. He started to have his own team those days, but not yet in the Carrera Cup, if memory serves correctly.

Team Porsche Zentrum Bielefeld was run by a strange guy called Knut Mentel, a buddy of Roland Kussmaul. At least two mechanics of 1991 are still working at the Porsche Zentrum Bielefeld. Innocent days, the teams used to come with a van and a trailer for the race car, no trucks, no hospitality. Things changed very quickly then.

Maybe there´s some stuff left in PZ Bielefeld´s archives.... the guy running it today is Mr. Frank Menzel, nice man and sponsor of Konrad Motorsport today. Phone +49 (0)521 41 00 64. As the owner of the former race car you´ll get infos, in case they have anything. Let me know, if you want me to support you.

Tom introduced me to him at Spa first time I was out. He features in the Porsche Sport books as I recognised his short back and sides! ;O)

Andy Bovenspien will probably be a member of the Bovenspien family who are Alpina (BMW) bespoke models, bet a million on that one !

Correct, Andy is from the Alpina family. I had the absolute pleasure in having him as our group instructor on the 3 day BMW Driving Training course at the 'Ring, I think in 2005. He commented it was a few years since he had sat in an 964RS
