Soli......I would use this as an opportunity.........for a jmg "400bhp/400lbft torque" engine rebuild. You know it makes sense! :))))

You could try Joe Austin at HP (not far from east London) ask him for some free advice but also a cost to fix. Tell him I sent you. He will not rip you off and will stand by his work.

Lol thanks. Will call him tomorrow. Jim also just called me. Really nice of him. He is calling around and helping me out. So am hopeful again 😊

Jon mentioned in a post somewhere (not sure if it was on this forum or another) that he is working on something 'interesting'... I can't wait to hear more.

On my car the limitation is currently the turbo so I'm not going to do any more until I know more from Jon.

Soli,

I found myself in a similar position to you not so long ago. When you have time, read my post here. You don't have to read the entire thread, just the first post. I got duped into thinking a bought a bargain. I didn't! Despite that, now when I drive the car, its hugely rewarding. And so much better for having had the surgery.

Give Jon at JMG a ring. He may have something? I know he is selling some of his fleet but may have a car which he is selling in bits? Or maybe you can twist his arm? I spoke to Mark earlier today. Had I read your post before then, I would have asked Mark on your behalf. He may be a long way away from you but it could be a worthwhile trip if you do ask him to work on the car/engine.

Maybe ask JMG for a quote too? It can't do any harm. You'll get honest advice from Jon.

Definitely give Porsch-apartand only 9 a ring re engines. I've dealt with both and they've been honest and helpful.

This M44.52 engine (250bhp) is available for less than the 220bhp. Not sure if this would work?

Crickey - just read your thread!! Unbelievable

Soil where abouts in London are you.? I know off guy with same name as you he a friend of a friend to my go, it's quite an unusual name wondering if you could be same guy now

Terry

Hi there. Any chance to have that contact name please? Nothing has come up yet. Many thanks. Soli

Minty looking is not mint lol. I've been to so many agent advertising mints for 10k and after driving them I wouldn't pay 5. It's ok I am sure all will work out and Jim is helping me out so can't complain. We will sort it and all will b well

Mint and 28 years old don't really go together!

As others have said it's the bodyshell that really counts for the long haul and you will have one of the best out there. It's an old car and it's bad luck that it happened after four hours but there will always be an 'upset' sooner or later (could be 4 hours, months or years). At least you have got it out of the way!

robdimond mint and 28 do go together, unfortunatly the car has blown a headgasket and caused some other damage, shit happens, the bodywork and chassis on this car is second to none, when the engine issues are sorted it will be hard to beat on overall condition.
As with any 28 year old car there will invariably be a few other fixes required......................old cars=dirty fingers and dirty nails !

We agree Frenchy! All I mean is that any old car will be a project with thousands of parts way beyond their design lives. I have not seem the car in question but I have heard secondhand that it is one of the most minty out there!
Oh for a perfect bodyshell! Back to my welding...

Jim sent a new head. I hope it arrives today. Then assuming it passes a pressure test I hope to have the car Saturday... Fingers crossed

Just to be aware things can go wrong, very badly wrong and quickly. The HG is a safety device in that its designed to go when needed unlike the one in my old SAAB 900 T16 that I had long before. In that case I felt the engine was weak, like it was down on power, checked the coolant and thought this doesn't look right. Then went to remove the plugs and couldn't get the first one out [&o], second one came out but had no end on it []. In that case the HG had partially failed from age letting water into the cylinder which caused a hot spot in cylinder 1, melted the plug and cracked the head right across. I got it all fixed OK in the end with another head and a few hundred quid and several hours with my brother struggling with those heads (there huge and heavy those old 16v heads). I was very lucky not to damage the pistons or bores basically because I had spotted something wasn't right early.

The car was only 14 years old at the time, something to think about.
