Diary of a 2.7/ 911

Wow, 1.1 million I'm aware of the rise in the price of the RS, but 1.1 seams a bit strong- My 911 is no RS, but when she is on the road I get lots and lots of attention- Not all positive I must stay- but mostly is. Its something you have to get used to- and to be a little corny 'It makes me feel like a million dollars :) ' If you can Keep it, Keep It. Money is only money, they make lots of it every year but a 911 RS are rare beasts and I'm sure the money in the bank is tempting but an RS in the garage is better.

Getting there, Wet and dried the rear to a glass finish, then applied 'Red Primer'. Will leave for a couple of days now to bed in and to see if anything reacts (it shouldn't but you never know- working in a garage there are all sorts of contaminates which could make it react). Although I'm quite happy now, I think I have turned a corner and can start to think about putting the car back together.

Some colour added, not quite the correct shade/ not colour corrected for age. but will give a nice base to work on for top coat and lacquer.

 
Looking good I'm taking the RS to Nottingham Porsche Centre to get a value on it I've rang them told them about the car and are all excited to see it they told me if all paper work checks out and the car is as good as i say it could be worth around £600000 if you send me your email I'll send you some pics does the owners of 911 2.7 ever get together Mark

 
I'm sure they do get together, not that often though. I guess like the us life gets in the way, I should really do more but I find a lot of my time is spent on my job and what's left over on the family and then on my cars. But if your ever in Penkridge (Stafford) pop in.

 
Hi all,

I have just acquired a 911 1975 targa 2.7 carrera from the states. VIN 9115410131.

I think this makes it 131 of 184 models.

Prices online seem to vary astronomically - and i am unsure what to do with the vehicle. I suspect its a bosch K jetronic, rather than an MFI model. Does this make a huge difference in price?

Its in a silver colour, and has the whale tail.

It runs really nice - but do i spend money on a restoration, or just hang on to it in its current passable driver condition? I guess the current vs. potential value is the key?

Its difficult to value a 911 at the moment, they are all rising in price generally, but some models more than others. The question should be - Have you brought it as an investment or for pleasure ?

Investment - you need to spend as little as possible to get maximum return - but in the classic car world that's quite hard to do.

Pleasure - enjoy it, as they are quite an acquired taste and you need to get introduced to them slowly, they are nothing like a modern day car.

So I know I haven't really answered your question - but the only person who can is you, and as I'm not expert on prices it would be good to get other opinions.

Basically i have some nervousness around ownership - as like you say its nothing like anything else i have driven.

I would like to think its an investment i can derive some pleasure from.

So i guess for me its whether waht i put in would ever be realised back - i don't want to be in negative equity on the car as it were.

Is there a substantial difference in current market value/ appetite for MFi/non-mfi models. How and why is this ?

I can whole hearty understand your nervousness when it comes to 911 ownership, within days of purchasing my own - I put it back up for sale as it was so radically different, and I found it difficult to come to terms with its raw brutal delivery and ride style . It took a little while to get to understand it, then appreciate it and then finally fall in love with it. You like cars for all the good things they can do, but you have to love a car for all it faults. I feel I have a relationship with it and for me that's more important than financial value (please don't get me wrong) - it's nice to know it has a value, but I never think about that when I'm spending money on its upkeep. To be honest you shouldn't think about the money in vrs the money out mantra unless its solely an investment. For myself (I'm guessing like a lot of others) its a childhood dream to own one, to drive one, to have it parked on the drive or just to stare at it for hours while your wife looks on in disbelief:)

When it comes to the pricing of the impact bumper 911, I really have no idea - I know the 2.7 Carrera RS is a very sort after car and people look at it as the whole grail of 911's, but I would say it has more to do with trends and the current 70s revival - but I have always used the simple rule of, something is only worth what someone else will pay for it, so just because a car is advertised for a given price really isn't a reflection of its real value. You could ask the club to value the car, forms are quite easy to get and for members I think the service is free. Again I know this really doesn't answer your question, but I'm now expert, just someone who was lucky enough to get permission from the wife to buy a 911 :)

Enjoy it, drive it, talk about it. Regrets are the thinks you don't do, so 911 ownership is now not one of them.

 
Been rebuilding the back end of Big Red/ nearly ready for some summer fun :). Took some time to spray the duck tail and make an insert for the air intake.

 
There is only one thing better than a911 2.7 rs is a rsr and they can realise 7 figures, sell the Cayman and get the rd back on the road and enjoy

Not been updating for a while, but I recently decided to buy a set of Fuchs for the old girl, mind you I couldn't not too, as they where are at a really good price on a popular 911 web site at the mo :) Just got to get some tires then fit them.

 
Hi Everyone - I know its a little late- But happy new year :)

Jobs to do this year :)

My car was in rude health until quite recently - I decided to take it out for a quick spin before the new year and on the way back it misfired and then died :( I nursed it back home,and as of now it will not fire.

I think its time for a top end rebuild as I have noticed a nice blue smoke on start up along with the not wanting to now start I think the engine needs a little TLC.

 
Hi and good bye. I haven't really done anything with regards to the car or even with the car for a long time, so I decided to put the car up for sale rather than leaving it sitting in the garage looking sorry for itself.. It didn't take long for some one to view and fall in love with her, so she has gone to a new home.

So I guess as I no longer have a 911 , 2.7 I cant be the forum moderator ! In fact for the first time in over twenty years I'm Porsche-less :(

So Enjoy them, and show them and hopefully I will still have the thrill of seeing you guys on the road.
