As its quite cold thought I wouldn't take the bumper off yet , but just rub the area back and have a look see, take the bumper off when its a bit warmer . Not too bad underneath no major rot or areas of concern. All good metal I'm guessing from the re-sprays its had over the years some moisture is getting through.
The other side was / is in a little poorer condition, but still no rot through. Cleaned both sides back to metal, crusted and then quick primer coat just for now. Will leave now for a couple of weeks so see if anything else comes through. if not will take off bumper and start prepping for filling /priming and painting
I've just come across your thread for the first time and read it from start to finish with much interest - please keep it going!
A while back you asked about ignition contact breaker replacement - did you ever do it? I used to have a 1973 Lotus that I wanted to improve but keep in period so I fitted the Lumenition kit. It certainly started more easily and I could convince myself it revved a little higher, but of course no more fiddling about with feeler gauges!
Happy New Year!

Yes I did try the electronic ignition contactless breaker system, I fiddled for quite a bit, but couldn't get the car to fire? I'm sure I was doing something wrong, or maybe the coil couldn't cope with the system. So stripped it out and went be stock. I might have another go in the future, as I like the idea, and I'm sure it will help to keep the engine running smoothly.
The Right Hand side is quite a bit corroded, not to the point of cutting away material and replacing with new, but will need a lot of attention to the lower of the inner rear wing. The supports have also rotted away at the bottom. I think the best thin to do is cut them off, and either weld or bolt new supports to the body? I can't find replacement part for these yet!
More cleaning, and a good wash and wax. Ordered most the parts now, took the rear bumper support tube off on the right hand side/ well it fell off Hopefully drop the bumper and the valence off at media blaster in a couple of weeks, and then start to test fit everything back. Hopefully the weather will start to pick up soon.
Bolts holding the bumper tube (snapped off). Ground back, thought I had a really good idea, drill out the old bolts and then tap into the support rail ! This could then be just bolted onto directly. Well that was the plan, (So I thought) I brought a really good tap and tie set? Yeah until the carrier and the tap snapped, leaving me bloody fingered and fed up What's worst I now can't find the receipt to take back, so I'm just leaving for today and get back fresh tomorrow (some days things just want to fight you)
PS my new favourite tool (no not me) grinder - Love it.

Not sure these were ever RS, just Carrera 2.7, although the engine passes the test, assuming it is the correct one fitted as it left the factory.
More information needed to establish what the car actually is and it's condition.
Regarding your Grandfathers 2.7 Carrera RS, prices are on the up for these cars at the moment, but when it comes to price its all about condition and originality, if it was me I would keep them all and try and make room, even if you have to store the RS for a while. I would take the RS to get a valuation as it could be quite high- you can then make a educated decision on what to do next. Post some pictures I would love to have a look see
My car -
I have been still working on the rear, I have now filler primed and class papered back blending together with the paintwork. Will need to final glass (2500 grit) before final primer and top coat then lacquer.
I have also stripped the rear bumper, filled and primed that as well. Even though the bumper is aluminium, I noticed that at the edges had delaminated and became quite weak in areas so needed to fill them before it got any deeper into the bumper.
I'm hoping to colour match the back and top coat soon
