Dirty Tesco Petrol???

Mine is an 07 and not under warranty
However after topping up half the tank with Esso Super she is running much better!
I'm still getting some occasional chuddering as I go down the gears the re-accelarate (kind of like a few seconds of vibration) but then she picks up again and runs smoothly
I really am convinced it was that half tank of dodgy tesco petrol, so lucky it was only half a tanks worth
I'm now going to run this tank (should last till about next Thursday) then re-fill of Shell V-Power
I will also put some more fuel tank cleaner in

Will keep you all updated...

On a side note....come on WALES!

Sounds more like impending coil pack failure than either fuel or fuel pump issues to me. That would give you misfires and the engine check light. Anway, don't think the Gen 1 cars had any problems with fuel pumps.

Yes mis-fires in something like 3, 4& 6?? but my memory isn't great and I only glanced at the machine
Dave at RS said he thought one had mis-fired and it had kicked up a fault code for the others!?!?!
Excuse my ignorance but when you say HPFP do you mean the fuel pump? and you've lost me with CEL's?? [8|]
Did you need a new HPFP if thst does mean fuel pump? [:)] if so how much are they?
Cheers
Rich

As chrisH says, the (mechanical) HPFP is only a fitment on the direct injection Gen2 vehicles. Otherwise there's only the electric fuel pump in the tank.

i thought england played very well -especially that youngster farrell- i think he will be a big force over the coming years and yes another very close exciting game .both my brother and youngest son were there(sadly i was at the hospital operating all day)and i kept getting texts along the lines of.."we are ****ting ourselves"[:D]

Hi again...lucky this is typing as I have no voice left after another tremendous Welsh victory at twickers [:)]

My man at RS Porsche initially thought it was a coil pack failure but said it wouldnt 'right' itself if it was that..ie when they go they go, they don't then get better...is this corect?

I haven't driven her on the weekend but on my way in this am it flashed up once and corrected again
I have also spoken to Tesco who have said they had it checked by trading standards and it was OK....however the nice man working on the till told me two other people had complained and the momentum pumps were all 'out of service' yesterday...
I'm going to contact Tesco again and kick-off a bit to see what they say...not sure what other options I can use on a legal front

update to follow when I have more news

Not always, I've had dodgy coilpacks on cars before that were hit and miss depending on how cold it was, how hard it had rained the night before, how warm the engine was before booting it etc.

If you don't have a sample of the fuel you put in your car, I suspect your legal options are incredibly limited to having a bit of a whinge and hoping for the best ;)

right I've had enough of this
I'm booking her in to get the coil packs replaced
hopefully that will sort it
cheers everyone

Let us know when the coil packs are done whether the fuel had anything to do with it. I have a feeling it probably didn't.
There is a lot of reteric about supermarket fuel on here whereas it has been said that all stations are supplied from the same refinery.

If they're doing the packs, then get them to do the plugs as well for the little extra it will cost you. May as well since there's only a tiny bit extra labour involved.

Just had a call from Tesco...I have to go in and fill in a vehicle claim form
Apparently they have had 5 other complaints about the momentum petrol and their engineers are investigating
She said it had been identified as a problem with their supplier and not Tesco's fault....so watch this space
I bought it from Tesco though so as far as I'm concerned it is their fault!!!

I knew it was the petrol....I'm still getting a check-engine light everytime I start her up so am hoping to get it booked in early next week!

Will keep you guys updated
Rich

If you are still getting a check engine light and it is running OK the fault code needs clearing. But if its still misfiring I am not convinced its the fuel as you have topped it up with "clean" fuel and so you need to get the coil packs checked and changed, (and plugs) IMO.
As Tesco said its a supplier problem I dont see why you see this as a supermarket only problem as they supply all the other stations too as far as I know.

I have had a letter from tesco admitting there is some kind of problem and requesting the details of the repairs etc
She is running really well now I'm halfway through a tank of Shell V-Power and is not mis-firing at all but I still have the fault light check engine everytime I start her up
Booked her in for next week so will be sending Tesco the invoice

Good for Tesco owning up to it and I'm sure BP, Shell and Esso would do the same, but it doesn't mean that supermarket fuel is inferior from anyone elses, IMO.

Agreed good that Tesco have acknowledged there was an issue. However I have heard so may issues with the use of supermarket fuel, that I stay clear. You get what you pay for me thinks !!

Just had confirmation from Tesco admitting liability and promising payment within 21 days
Happy Days!!![:D]

Congrats on getting a resolution [:)]

Can someone please educate me. Those that say that the fuel is the same at all petrol stations, at what point does Tesco 99 become 99 RON whilst Shell V Power is 98 RON and Total Excellium is 97 RON etc. I don't get the statement being made.
