Do i have to use OPC for brake pad change to keep my warranty?

Oddly enough Chris, after posting I thought exactly the same myself..! Think I'll raise the point with Hatfield and come back on this if I have any luck. Jeff

Under EU Block Exemption legislation which has been around for many years now, a manufacturer cannot force a buyer to have their car serviced by their official dealership network, and cannot refuse to honour a new car warranty simply because a car has been serviced elsewhere. However, a manufacturer does have the right to set a servicing schedule which must be adhered to. Note - this would apply during the 2 year warranty period provided with a new vehicle, in the case of an extended warranty this may be where the twist in the tale lies since they are often 'insurance policies' provided by a subsidiary or third party (BMW being one example who do this). http://www.oft.gov.uk/news-and-updates/press/2004/85-04#.UrbF-HmQTGB Were I in the position being discussed I would be happy using an indy but would insist on original or OEM parts but I understand why it's easy for me to say cos it's not my car.

ORIGINAL: Giff The bell is too deep, they've just sent the wrong discs, worst bit is I had already painted and laquered them..
OK, I have to ask, why would you paint and lacquer brake discs?

You mean you don't? Shame on you! ;)

I think he painted and lacquered the bells which tend to corrode and look horrible after a while. Good idea [;)]

It is when you buy the right ones and check they fit..........................

Lol, Mr Pants making an appearance, this festive period not lifting your spirits? No need to be a negative Nelly at Christmas!

ORIGINAL: Motorhead Colin, I think that it would be worth asking the question of your PC and getting a quote from them for the work. They're very much aware of the competition from the Indies, especially for older cars, and you need to make sure that the Indy is quoting for using genuine Porsche parts - and not just OEM parts - to fulfil your extended warranty requirements. You may be interested to hear that recently I received some info from Hatfield PC who are one of the Porsche Retail Group Centres (Guilford, Hatfield, Reading and West London). For cars which are 4 years old and over they're offering, amongst other things, fixed price servicing (?), labour rate at £96 per hour +VAT (30% discount), complimentary yearly MOT and preferential parts pricing (10% discount). Not a great saving since we already get a 10% parts discount being Club members, but better than a poke in the eye. Jeff
Cheers Jeff, some very valid points. In fairness, my local OPC have (so far) been fairly good when it comes to negotiation of price. Hopefully it will stay that way!!

Happy Christmas Giff - hope you sort it.

at OPC reading now. i need new discs as well £950, but just remembered that i need to ask for PCGB discount so should be somewhat less. Decided to use OPC as I'm in the third year, so the position with warranty is less clear, and if i want to trade the car to them next year i don't want to give them any grounds to chip at the price the give me. Cheers Jon

Was just under £850 with PCGB discount. and no front only [:(]

Considering you can buy a pair of Sebro discs and set of Textar pads for around £300, they really are ripping you off!

ORIGINAL: Giff Anyone have any experience with Pagid discs?
I put them on my old Boxster and were spot on. And as a bonus, they didn't seem to corrode as much as the OEM ones [:)]

Jeeezus - that is OTT IMO. Most indy's would have done it for less than half of that, the remainder would be money in the bank for any repairs in the future. Seriously expensive in my book but I understand the third year warranty lack of clarity. Porsche fairy dust is very expensive.....

Ouch!!!!! I'm going to hope that mine last out until the warranty expires & then get an Indy to sort them if necessary. Touch wood I'm pretty light on brakes, I've got a Mk 4 Golf GTI Turbo which I've had for 9 years / 7k miles. It's done 74k now & still on original front discs & pads. Had to change the rear pads though as they started crumbling.

Have ordered a full set of OE spec Pagid discs, Eurocarparts are doing £15 off orders over £100 so placed two orders getting £15 off each, total £193 delivered. Ordered some EBC yellowstuff too.
