Drive out and Charity Motor Event, Snetterton 23rd Nov.

Ouch, sorry to hear the news Scott [&o]

The pic looks surprisingly like the red 968 that did the same thing a couple of years ago (can't remember the userid of the owner)

Baltic Blue 944's and Snetterton just don't mix, that's where I dented mine [:(][:(]

Really sorry for what happened, Scott. Glad you're OK and hope the car is easily fixable. It's a lovely looking machine.

I was at the front of the convoy and didn't hear what had happened until we'd pulled up just by the entrance to Snetterton. There was so much spray being kicked up by the cars that there was very little visibility in the rear-view mirrors and it was only then that I realised we were a few cars short.

It was a pleasure to meet you at breakfast this morning Scott. Very glad to hear you are O.K and the car will be as well.

Jim

Really sorry to see that, Scott, but my first thought was exactly the same as Smiffy's. It was Jeremy Atkins 968, wasn't it?

He aquaplaned off, and went through a Lotus that was parked up having hit the same patch of water. []

We had a two-person fatal near me a week ago. I'd driven up the road an hour before, and I was having issues at about 20MPH. Their BMW was going more than that on the 60-limit road, but I do get concerned with some of our roads that just don't clear the surface water fast enough. Don't know where you were, but the A1M has caught me out before in heavy rain.

Thanks all, whatever the insurance say it WILL be repaired and I will be checking availability of certain parts with Porsche in the morning.

Totally agree about the roads not dispersing water quickly or efficiently.

I was in my Cayenne on the M6 last week and even at 70mph with new tyres could feel the car being dragged by the standing water. Glad I wasn't in a BMW 3 Series or a Merc C Class

Scott, glad you're ok and I hope the car doesn't take too much time and dosh to repair! Hope you can catch us again maybe on the Rutland Water Tour next year?

Cheers Max

Thanks Paul, I tried to correct it but over cooked it. At that point I thought ok well i'm sliding towards the banks at 45 degree's I will let the soft soil stop the car, what I did not see was the end of the kerb which the rear wheel smacked into and then swung the car back the other way round before finally digging in and going up the bank on its side [:(]

Really ? Its not far from where the 968 went off, in fact I was telling my friends who came down to give me a lift that exact story

Is there a possible claim against the people responsible for the road? If there's conclusive proof of there being an issue with accidents in one spot they must be obliged to deal with it, and the 968 was a couple of years ago, I think?

I'm not one for claim culture, but there's also a duty of care that a road should be modified if there's a history of similar accidents.

Rutland sounds good as long as its not raining lol Thanks for your help today (and everyone else's) Right who took pictures, what did I miss?

what did I miss?

In all honesty, Scott, you didn't miss a great deal. The horrendous weather seemed to have put off most of the car clubs and most of the public, so very little was happening at the circuit. I do feel for the organisers as this was a charity event and their efforts can't have netted much for their chosen charities. They were taking something of a risk running it later in the year (albeit only slightly later) and it hasn't paid off for them.

The Sunday lunch at The Ship was very good, however :)

The car is now at the bodyshop but as yet they do not have the go ahead yet to repair it. Ok it's dented but you'd struggle to guess its been on its side.
