Drive out Saturday 3rd February 2018 - all welcome! Suggested route from Market Harborough
- Thread starter drewbuckley
- Start date
Ooooooh there’s a profanity blocker, wonder how many swear words it knows?!
Yes thanks. Very p**^^d off, and feeling red faced! But I was in the outside lane facing fast oncoming traffic. That was scary, and I count myself lucky they missed me!!
Hmmm! Bumping...good choice of word!!??
I am absolutely fine Mike thanks.

Hi all,
Thanks for all your good wishes. I am absolutely fine, and it could have been so much worse so I am grateful for where I am. Can’t believe it happened in a straight line on the M1 after all the twists and turns of the drive out today!!
The car can be fixed and as a potential Cat C now it is not the investment that I thought it might be, meaning I can just add on the miles with no worries about future values!
It will be my first insurance claim in over 45 years of motoring...
Gutted but not put off!!
All the best.

Many thanks Drew for organising the drive out on Saturday, some great driving roads, completely different to the flat terrain where I live.
Would have been nice to join you at the pub, but didnt know name or whereabouts of it???
Mark, glad to hear you were ok, the M1 was very busy and lots of spray around when I ventured back south, so hope you wern't shaken up to badly.
Great to meet you guys with some nice machinery and nice people.
Look forward to the next meet.
Cheers, Newbie Dave

It was good to meet you Dave, hope to see you at more events, meets and drives.
Thanks everyone for your comments, glad you all enjoyed yourselves. As suggested, perhaps we take it in turns to introduce one another to our favourite routes each month?!
Mark, how bad is the 911? Repairable or technical write off? Perhaps it‘s an opportunity to personalise it (trying to look on the bright side)?

It was very cold so not surprising.....
Morning all. Thanks for all your kind comments. The more I think about it the more I see how lucky I was to have been in an empty space and for the oncoming traffic not to have whacked me! I also missed the uprights of the central reservation so the first point of contact was the top of the headlights - hopefully the subframe is untouched and straight.
The tyres are Pirelli PZero but I think I was in Sport Plus so PSM was toned down. That was a BIG mistake in the wet with all that GTS power!!!
I’ll get the car repaired and see how I feel... it perhaps won’t be the same knowing I am driving something that was bent, so it might have to go, but let’s see!!
Despite all that it was great to be out driving and to have some real banter over lunch. Sorry Dave and Jim got separated and missed that bit.
Cheers for now.

Have you been given the option of taking a total loss settlement? For me I think it would rest on the route insurers want to take with which bodyshop is used if I have a large emotional attachment to the car. If it's high then I'd stick with it, if not perhaps best to take the cheque and reinvest. Having been in insurance for many years I'd welcome feedback on your experience (who you are covered with, customer service etc).
I had a couple of tail out moments during the day with just Sport mode on, didn't dare go Sport Plus especially when the snow came!!

Hi Drew,
I would be interested to talk to you about insurance on Saturday if you are going, but I hope the car has only superficial damage because of the way it hit the barrier. During the drive out, I was going quite carefully because of the weather and wet road conditions. Sport Plus was on, just to give me rev matching on downshift of gears. The impact speed was quite low because I was travelling below the speed limit and I spent time trying to control the skid, covering some distance and slowing down before the crunch. I went under the barrier and avoided the uprights meaning the bodywork above the bumper was the first point of contact, so I hope the substructure is untouched. I don’t want to bore folks with more stuff on this thread, but I can fill you all in when I see you.
Happy motoring everyone. Mark
