Dyno Day Confirmation

Thanks to Rich for organising dyno day. I enjoyed day a lot got fed a lot better than Ragley Hall.
Nice to put faces to names on forum, If Northway give my 944 a clean bill of health I would like to
see what a standard 219K still produces. It was good to meet you all.

If, for example, we had six cars who all did 3 runs that would be comparable with a shoot out day and should be less than £100 each.

You know I'd be interested [8|]

But then I would probably have broken mine again by then []

I know PSH wants to do another run after fitting an EBC (467 bhp isn't enough apparently [;)]).  I want to establish an 18psi run for Beaky (327 bhp certainly isn't enough and there must easily be another 25+ bhp lurking there as I have the same turbo as Peter).

I had wondered if Chris would accommodate us on a fettling day where we could do a run, come off and asses the data, while someone else is on,  modify and go back on to the rollers to confirm the changes.  In effect like a rolling road day just with two or three goes.

If, for example, we had six cars who all did 3 runs that would be comparable with a shoot out day and should be less than £100 each.

I haven't discussed it with Chris yet but is anyone interested in the concept?

This would work particularly well for me as it is difficult  to reprogramme my fuelling dynamically. The cells are a bit too big and interpolate too much. It is far better to analyse the results and change a cluster of cells without the engine running.
John this is a great idea, I want to run both my cars again and when I am confident both are performing properly I want to do before and after runs. On the Saab I have a little device that plugs in the OBD port and flashes the program back and forth in about 20 mins each way, and of course on the S2 I can swap chips around in about 1/2 hr if Chris is OK with us dismantling bits of car outside and then pulling apart boards on one of his work benches (preferably with a earth stud for me ESD wrist band and wire).

I would also like to have a good hard look at the ideal CO at idle setting since this has never really been bottomed out. I was running 2.0% which seemed a safe level without being mega rich but this seems too high for a modern 16v engine.

Ideal time for me would be in a couple or 3 months (plenty time for Paul to be ready.......)

I'm up for another run. Despite being happy with my headline figures i'm not happy that i'm not maintaing full boost at all - it just peaks at 15psi then immediately starts to bleed of to around 9psi. Obviously a combination of the K26/6 and the MBC. First step is an ebc which i'm looking to sort out next month so it will be interesting to see what difference that makes.

Hello Guys[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Really enjoyed Saturday so thanks for coming along. I've got to say I was really pleased as everyone who said they were coming turned up - good one.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Pleased with the car achieving near standard power, will be going along again in a month or two with the Tial wastegate, Maxhpkit chips etc fitted.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]See you chaps soon.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]All the best [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Rich[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Would certainly be up for another Rollers of Truth session as long as it coincides with me getting more mods sorted.

That said I might just come along anyway to try and find that missing 0.9 HP - not that I am bitter and twisted about it [8D]

If my 9-5 had have been making 9psi of boost that day I would have been over the moon! Maybe I am not familiar with the 951 characteristics but using a manual boost controller made no difference whatsoever to how well my old 900 would hold 1 bar boost. The problems with MBC over EBC IMHE is down to the MBC not much good at keeping steady boost levels. I used to get big boost spikes, such as hitting the overboost kill switch when flooring it on cold days.

Maybe this is just the limit of the turbo and explains why the typical 951 curve is so fat, if it held flat boost I would expect to see the power going through the roof all the way up the rev range rather than flattening off so nicely.

I must admit i've never experienced boost spikes with my MBC and it has been 100% reliable and consistent but I have heard of other people having problems. I definately notice the drop off in boost. I get a real kick up the backside when the boost comes on but as you push harder at higher revs the power does tail off noticeably. Vitesse claims 350bhp at 15psi with his stage 3 kit so holding 15psi to the red line is potentially worth 80bhp! The EBC will be telling as I should be able to hold 15psi with a K26/6 upto about 4500rpm before the turbo starts to run out of capacity.

Hi all

Thought i would pop on here and say thanks again to rich for organising the dyno day, thanks to rick for data logging and say it was good to both see old faces and new at the event.
In regards to Johns suggestion of a dyno day where we can make changes , i would be up for that if it's not too soon as I want to get an electronic boost controller first since my boost dropped from peak and also need those new HT leads that chris said lost me some power due to the missfire.

was a good day guys.. i had fun

Pete

I would be interested in a day like that,i would probably bring my red car next time just depends on what car gets fiddled with next, really enjoyed the other day though keen to do it again,if there is space.

Sounds like a great day out there fellas. Though I don't know how you could let Fen steal 2nd place with a humble family wagon!! Judging by the standard 944t getting 245hp can I assume that these figures were all calclulated at the flywheel? The S2's look like the big movers too. Well done...and on that little game of Rugby too. Well deserved win.[X(]

I was going to post some teasing on Rennlist in the discussion you and NZ951 had last week, but I thought better of it in the end [;)]

Yes those figures are the calculated flywheel but we did all get a graph of the power at wheels as well (for comparison my wifes S2 was 178 WHP and 212 BHP). Rick promised to have his website updated this week so keep an eye on http://www.cannell.co.uk/944%20UK%20League.htm for the full statto details [:)]

Hey we were just as shocked as you. The only saving grace was when we found out that the Kiwi's lost! Really we couldn't have played any worse, but that was largely through the pressure put on by England. Still we blew 3 or 4 chances of scoring. Ah well there's always next time...[:(]

I just noticed Rick has changed the date on his Dyno page [anorak on/]

I bet he is updating it with this weeks results right now [:D]

Stay tuned so the full amateur dyno sheet analysis can begin :ROFLMAO:

Nice one Rick, I sense a lot of midnight oil has been burned getting this updated

I see that Peter E currently tops the N/A list for both torque and power [:)] surely we have to move him into the other list if/when he fits that blower [;)]

I assume Peter will be in a list of his own as the only supercharged 944 to have ridden the Rollers of Truth - once he does.

He will be both the best and worst of his list :)

Beaky has gone up a bit, and that was before the boost got turned up :) but he has a bit of a jump to make now.

Hmmmmm yes, you need an extra 15bhp to catch Mark and Tony, and an extra 30bhp to catch PSH. But they are all on 18psi boost and you are only at 15psi. Your Link Map has the fuelling virtually spot on for the high RPM [8D] but it is pretty lean at 14:1 around the 4000 rpm sector.

Time for you and Brenda #1 to get up that dual carriageway with the laptop :ROFLMAO:

Hells bells - its even more mortifying now that Scott got 0.7 bhp more than me which gets him in at number 20 on the power table and me nowhere....[&:][;)]

Thanks for all your efforts Rick in getting the thing updated.
