Whats your preferance
The silverstone Historic meet is on 26th to 28th July, porsche is the car of weekend celebrating 60 years of porsche.
Would you like us to see if we can get the Silverstone GP circuit with no noise limit,it will be more expensive and deff more interesting to drive than the national circuit.
Or go for the national circuit with noise restrictions.
Or try for a donnington noisy day
It would be nice to get something sorted by the end of this week, which would be great to get on the year wall chart planner,of which the deadline is friday!

SILVERSTONE.... it was a perfect way to end the weekend up there. I think every one really enjoyed the day and I think there will be more take up this time as the pictures all over the net and in the magazines have made a few others think hmmm I fancy abit of that.. Also owners that have never done a track day have seen it is ok to take your car out..

Roll on next year..either track but national was good and just right to push the car more than you would on the road..although since the track day I remember what Mike said for each corner, it has made driving the car way much more fun [;)]

Much as i love the GP circuit , may find the older cars , unless race prepared ,will suffer more than u may think on this one ! I am up for whatever is booked Paul.

That is what i was thinking the national is nothing that can really push the car to, too much of it's limits but agreed the gp circuit would be a fanstastic to do as A a change but B new challenges. Can it done as National in the morning eg get the drivers and cars warmed up and then GP for the next half..?

don't know if I just talked b****s or if it is some thing that could be worked..

On a circuit only basis I would go for Donnington noisy day. Great circuit for us as really suits the early cars.

However either Donnington or Silverstone would suit. If we are restricted to 105db it will be managable although we might get a few more exotica with no noise limit.

Would folks be more likely to come if it was linked into Silverstone Classic or not?

Ian.

Good man Paul . . .

Bearing in mind the added attraction of Silverstone Classic, to ensure numbers remian high I'd think it advisable to combine the two if at all possible.

Personally I'd like prefer somewhere like Cadwell .. . but the location is a bit of a problem.

Phil

Silverstone is central and also on the back of another event most of us would all be there already..

To piggyback the trackday onto the Classic certainly worked this year, and I would certainly do it again next year. I would prefer the GP circuit, I love those faster corners. The lack of a noise limit might well get some extra cars out as well, not that it seemed to be much of a problem this year. There are better tracks for the early cars, but on balance this day and location come out on top for me.

Anybody got any views on the Historic Grand Prix Circuit or the International Circuit at Silverstone? I have only ever driven National and current GP circuits.

Well certainly the Historic wud help on brakes ..................i have old and new Pork, just reckon the whole GP circuit will break a few cars , wheras in modern machinery not a prob ..............peopel can decide for themselves how far they want to go i guess, but we all know the temptations ....................heaven knows there s enough space !

I would have thought the GP circuit would be a waste of time on an early car due to it's size,,unless you are running 200bhp/tonne I would expect the M25 to be a more intimate experience?

International looks like a good choice to me. More interest than the National but not too big.

Ian.

I am still awaiting a reply from Steve K,i was hoping to see him at the workers conferance this last weekend.I will call him tomorow and find out what is possible.
The gp circuit is fine for older cars, and you can carry a lot of speed through some very safe corners, just come in and give the car and driver a rest more often.
The historic gp i have raced on,and is good fun accept you need to be ready for bridge ,as its a very fast entry and makes a early 911 feel interesting as you go over the rise and down in to bridge.
I need more practice at this point.
Paul Maca had a problem with noise on the national circuit and was made to repack his exhaust etc on the gt2 racer. If we get a unlimited noise day,i will bring the 906 out,and i am sure we can get a few other exotic cars for some passenger laps of the real keen people to enjoy.

I've driven the national circuit at Silverstone which can be fun but perhaps the opportunity to drive the GP circuit is a nice experience and perhaps gives the brakes a chance to cool down. Donington is always fun to drive. I'd be happy to go to any circuit, so long as its properly controlled.

Paul

Looking forward to the day whichever circuit.

Silverstone as part of the Classic Weekend is a great idea, and more than the National Circuit please - others know better than I which is the better chioce of GP, Historic etc. but just so long as it is longer than the National.

Loved my day at Donington last week, so could we do one there as well ?

[FONT=arial"]HI all[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]I have had a response from steve, see below. And a lot of what he says makes sense to me.[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]So i guess its down to numbers and what you are prepared to pay.[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]I know from organising the march 993 & 964rs oulton park track days, that numbers can be difficult and takes a couple of years to establish, now it more or less runs its self.We started with about 20 cars and now we are at around 50+ cars every year.[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]So do you think we can get a list of names for potentials, with a early commitment once the silverstone date can be established.I could probably come up with a list of invite sensible drivers of other factory lightweights/gt,s etc to help make up the numbers for costs etc. Also there is plenty of room on the GP circuit to allow for this and we could even have a session period for the newcomers to track days etc.[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]I am sure DDK would get involved with us again.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=arial"]What do you think???

[FONT=arial"]Thanks for your e-mail and apologies for the delay in replying. I am not ignoring you, but as the dates for the Motorsport and Track Days have yet to be resolved, we cannot make any commitments, but your comments have been noted. [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]However, there are a number of issues that need to be considered:[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]1. [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]How many drivers would you expect to book onto a day for early cars ? In 2007 we had 50 cars booked on the day on the Silverstone National circuit. Of these 8 were newer cars that had either booked before we had committed the day to the early cars. So, in reality we had 42 early cars booked on the day. This day was able to be offered at a relatively low price (£175) because of a deal we had done with Silverstone circuit, linked to the Silverstone Classic meeting and our involvement with the race meeting. [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]2. [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]At the moment, we are waiting for confirmation that we will be invited to be part of the Silverstone Classic race meeting again in 2008. If we are, we can then try to do a similar deal for the use of the circuit, for a linked Track Day.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]3. [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]The day we ran on the Silverstone circuit, was operated to the same noise limit as applies to our Silverstone GP, Oulton Park, Brands Hatch, Goodwood and some Castle Combe Track Days at 105 decibels. The Silverstone Classic meeting has dispensation to run at a higher noise limit as it is an International Race Meeting. Generally those type of dispensations do not apply to Track Days, although sometimes the circuit do not always police noise. For example, we have never been noise tested on our Silverstone GP circuit day, so some cars can get away with being a bit "˜noisy', but officially the 105 decibel rule applies. Therefore, we cannot knowingly promote the day or accept bookings for cars which are noisier than 105 decibels.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]4. [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]The reason I ask about numbers you feel would book on the day, is linked to the issue of cost. For example, the Silverstone GP circuit day costs over £27,000, of which 95% is circuit rental. Donington Park circuit costs over £13,000 to hire for a "˜quiet day'. A noisy day is over £15,000. From this you can see that the 42 cars we had booked onto the day in 2007, would need to pay almost £360 per head to cover the cost of a Donington Park noisy day.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]In discussion with Philip Taysom (he was then early 911 Register Secretary), he insisted that the drivers would not pay "˜normal' Track Day prices and the price needed to be low. We were able to do this due to the arrangement we had put in place with Silverstone. This was for a shorter than normal day, but it worked well. If we are unable to get the circuit cheap, then commercial rates would apply. Part of the reason for not letting GT3's etc. on the day, was concern over the speed differentials, so inviting "˜special cars', for example early race cars, etc. may cause the same concerns. Making the day exclusively for early cars will have an impact on the number that may book on the day and therefore the cost per head.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]I am still in discussion with Silverstone and will continue to try and get a day immediately after the Silverstone Classic meeting. However, if we cannot get this "" what are your views on the number of drivers who would pay normal, commercial rates to attend a Track Day for "˜early cars'. I am not sure of the commercial rate for Silverstone National circuit, but normally similar to Donington Park "" around £15,000.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
