You are so not going to pull with a pink interior though. Porsche or no Porsche.
I prefer to think of it as burgundy[
]
Anyway quick update - the car is now home. Condition? Certainly as good as I could expect. Let me go back a step, upon leaving Porsch-Apart (PA) to drive home I noticed all those obvious little things such as notchy gear shift left-to-right across the gate, a rumbling that may be the beginning of a wheel bearing problem and most obvious no rear view mirror. I went back and PA furnished me with one. That's really all the bad news mechanically. The car drives very well, steering is straight and tight, ride feels firm, brakes powerful, and of course then there's the boost[
].
Though I've no experience with 944T's this car feels powerful, if any horses have escaped the corral then those remaining must be running that bit harder. Boost builds quickly and seems to stop at 1.9bar (Is this OK?). It idles well, runs cool and revs well. I did notice a bit of a vapour trail after reving it through 3rd a bit. Won't be repeating this until bodywork sorted so I'll worry about it later.
True to their word PA's description of the cars past was accurate. The previous owner seemed to have a money no object attitude towards the car (as I'm sure we all do) and, mechanically at least, it has been well taken care of. Difficult to tell if the aircon was working as it was very cold outside, I'll assume not.
So, to the main problem area and reason for being able to pocket this car, the bodywork. The offside sill is still solid externally though surface ruse is forming along the lower edge. Looking down inside the b-pillar it looks quite corroded. This will be the first priority. In contrast, the nearside sill feels weak to finger pressure and there is bubbling paint. However, the view down into the box section shows not even a sign of any surface rust. This may have been (temporarily/poorly) repaired previously. Other trouble spots include the lower edge of the nearside wing and (of course) the rear number plate panel around the lights. The rust on the lower edge of the drivers door may be more than just surface rust, but I've been contacted in the mean time by someone with doors from a rose.
No complaints as I knew the sills were shot and I know just where to get them sorted. Our R3 organiser had his 944 sills done at a local bodyshop and quality of their work is second to none, exactly mirroring the factory fit and finish. Not too hard on the old wallet either. Until I can organise bodywork I've ordered just about every Dinitrol product in the catalogue and the whole car will be getting doused very soon.
As for the interior, a subject very close to John's heart[
], my wife, a wedding dress maker by profession, has obtained the individual coloured threads and is confident that an in-situ repair can be performed.
I seem to have typed rather a lot, time to stop.
