Edinburgh OPC

Grieg and I had a very constructive meeting with the dealer principal at Edinburgh OPC on Monday. We both felt that there had been a lack of contact between the Club and our Official Porsche Centre for some time and that perhaps now was the time to attempt to build a relationship between the club members and the OPC.
At the meeting we discussed a number of issues that in turn can benefit us all. We have agreed the following.
The stated 10% discount,a benefit of club membership will be honoured at all times, this is available on parts, service costs and items from the shop. All you have to do is supply proof of club membership when arranging any work or ordering parts. This can be done by production of your membership card or quoting your membership number over the phone.
The east coast club night on 7th June will be hosted by Edinburgh OPC, between 6.30 pm and 8.30 till 9 ish. They will provide food and drinks for club members and the staff will be available for consultation. Staff from the tech side will also be available for questions and advice regarding your own vehicles and they will be able to give a tour of the workshop and be there to answer any of your technical questions.
For owners of older vehicles Colin Ferrier is going to set up a special section primarily to deal with these models, he has been allocated a budget and a healthy discount option on parts and service costs. No final discount amounts have been quoted yet but we have been told that these will be very healthy and I can update you all in due course regarding this. They actually showed me the details of older cars that they still service and supply parts for as some had been worried that the OPC staff would only be used to working on the newer models, this is definately not the case.
They are going to support the Club Concours this year and supply a stand and a couple of demos on the day of the event.
And finally they want us to return again to the OPC for a club night in early December.
In order to make the relationship work we would ask that as many members as possible put the June date in their diary and try to attend, it should be a good night and the staff there have been very keen to get us to attend. I hope that all the Glasgow members can make their way over to Edinburgh for the night as well and we could always go on somewhere afterwards for a drink. By June the weather should be fine so it's a good excuse to get our cars out for a run.

Yes, well done, that's good news. Thanks for taking time to meet them and build some contact.

I'll be there.

Are Edinburgh and Glasgow OPCs not the same company? First things first. But if June 7th goes well we should try same on the west.

What about the WEST dealer and sorry cant make the 7th as were all away at SPA ( well 8 cars ) so hope its a good eve G

Gordon sorry I was aware that it clashed with your trip away, however they are keen to have us attend as much as we want to. I didnt want to mention it but since someone has asked I sent identical letters to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Edinburgh replied the day after receiving the letter and so far we have had no response from Glasgow to either the letter or Grieg's telephone calls.
As we understand at the moment it is up to the individual dealership to decide how they deal with the club, although this may change in the future as Porsche GB are keen to create a better relationship between us all. I sent the letters after hearing a representative of Porsche GB give a talk at the last club seminar who explained something of the spirit of co-operation contract signed by Porsche GB and the Club.
So as it stands at the moment Edinburgh are taking the time to make us very welcome and seem really keen to be involved with us as a club. Hence the reason that it has been organised for Edinburgh alone. We did try for both as that would have been ideal but hopefully the Glasgow guys who cant make it through for the first night can try it the next time. I also dont want it to devolve into a slagging match about Glasgow giving us a rubber ear and I must stress that it is up to the individual OPC to decide policy towards the club, they have chosen so far not to respond and we have to live with that fact.

Well done to both of you ,I for one know all the effort that goes in to this ,as far as Glasgow goes ,when I was the RO in the early years we had not a bad relashionship with then under the guidence of Alistair Paterson who invited us to the dealership on a couple of nights and he also came along to a couple of club nights with a Porsche official and promisd us things would change as to the dealers approach to club members ,I think it is all down to the indviduals at the dealers ,as a lot have had bad experiances with them and things did not happen ,We have to support the dealers with our business it cannot be a one way street

This seems like a good idea, does anyone know if OPC Aberdeen have been contacted with a proposal like this?

Agree with comments above _ good work guys & TY. As Gordon says we cant make 7th June but I'll try & support otherwise.

This is great news. When I owned my Daimler and XJ-S, Rossleigh used to run a discounted labour rate system. If memory serves it was two-tiered - cars over 5 years old got 25% off, and those over 10 years old got 50% off. I've always thought it was a great idea, both to retain customers (and also then having the possibility of selling them something newer) and also good business sense for the dealership. There must be loads of Porsche owners(myself included) who would like to use the OPC if the cost was even approaching that of the independents.

Many thanks to Kenny and Greig for this.

Best of luck,i have just ordered my new car from Newcastle because of many bad experiences with opc Edinburgh. They really dont care once they have your money.

Sorry to hear that ..If you have had a bad experiance why do you not go back and tell the principal of your case rather than just go to another dealer .I for one would go and tell them face to face of your feelings and if it was not resolved go direct to Porsche HQ and let them know of the treatment you received and get them to sort it out ,you deserve the best service no matter how much you spend

Hi,
