Edinburgh OPC

ORIGINAL: 944s2

Anyone got a spare seat from North Glasgow?

Dougie now Porscheless!

Dougie,
I may be able to help you out. I'm definitely going but I may be going from Motherwell depending on how work pans out today. (Otherwise I'll be heading over from Strathblane so fairly easy to go via Bishopbriggs).

PM me a phone number and I'll call you once I know.

thank you to all who made the effort to come along tonight. Was nice to put a few faces to names from here. I will write a nice letter to Edinburgh OPC tomorrow thanking them for staying on late for us and the guided tour of the workshop etc. I had great fun with the diagnostic computer on the 997 cab.

ps Scotty thanks for the 360 drive [:D] for those who didnt make it my apologies for having no camera, John Hunter driving a guards red Cayman with matching shirt and SHOES was a sight to behold

Agreed Kenny, a good night and the OPC were great. My only disappointment was how few people these days take the trouble to match their shoes to their car.

Thanks very much for organising this and I hope the OPC feel they got enough interest to be willing to run the same every-so-often.

For me it was my first club meeting and it was great to put names to faces and meet people. You are a very friendly lot - thanks.

Also met a few other people who were there for the first time.

I followed (I assume Scotty's) 360 around the ring road and the sound of that engine when we were waiting at the lights under the flyover was amazing. But so was the sound of 10 or so Porsches leaving the OPC at the end of the evening.

good fun, had'nt realised that the fezza and porker service bays were one in the same ! doh !

dakota was cool, service fab as usual !

nice to see you all !

the garage were in contact with me this morning looking for feedback from the members. If anyone wishes to contact me or post here then I can let them know. I think it was a very good turn out and as it was the first time in many years at the OPC they are looking for ways to improve the experience for us. They have suggested hosting again in December, do you think it is worth doing again ( I do ) Many thanks once again.
Kenny

Kenny,
I'd make a point of coming along if they run another one (every 6 months or so sounds about right, not sure about December given how booked it gets with festive stuff - but I guess it's good for them because they are probably quiet in December - if they have some Porsche-design stuff on display they might sell a few xmas gifts!)

In terms of feedback, I was not there bang on 6:30 so maybe I missed an announcement, but when I arrived the staff did not seem to know quite what was happening - so perhaps they need to make a point of having a sheet of paper just listing out what we can take a look at / what is open / what the different staff expertise areas are etc.

I thought the demo of the diagnostics was really interesting.

If the parts dept had been open I'd have ordered a few things. (Perhaps it was and I just didn't find it, but I was not trying hard, remembered on way home I intended to talk to them).

It's good they are offering a labour discount for older cars, but one thing that still concerns me is about their experience to handle older cars (Glasgow go out of their way to tell me to go away (almost)). I was impressed by the age of the Fezzas in the service bay, which makes me think that they do have some enthusiasm for older cars. Perhaps, if they have a 944 or 993 "age" of mechanic, it would be good to have them on-hand for questions (but I guess that would cost them a few hours overtime).

Above is meant as positive suggestions (but it was good, there is no need for them to change, I'd still come along). Probably bring a friend next time (which might get them a customer...).

Thanks again.

thanks for the comments, as I said it was the first in a long time at an OPC so there were bound to be some questions with regards to what was going to happen etc. These are easily resolved. With regards to older cars both the service guys last night , Norman McKenzie and Colin Ferrier are qualified mechanics and have been there for yers, although nowadays they have put away the spanners and deal more with customer relations with regard to service etc. They both qualified on the older air cooled cars and have a good level of expertise on them. Either of these guys will discuss your car with you and offer a discounted rate for labour and parts etc. You will have seen the 968 which was on the ramps getting some work done and a lot of people still bring their older classics in for work. Glad you enjoyed the night and hopefully see you in the future at more.

ps Glasgow tend to be like that with everyone I wouldnt take it peronally and again thanks for the comments.

Certainly have - am actually quite surprised it'sstill on the forum bearing in mind the tightening up of rules. I am,of course, delighted it hasn't been moderated away.

Salutory warning that OPCs may not always be squeaky clean in their dealings, not that I could afford to buy from them or have my servicing done there.

Very sad to read this, as I hold the Edinburgh OPC in fairly high regard, as I have been well satisfied in all my dealings with them, and I feel I have always been treated very well.

I obviously do not know all the facts, but I would remind readers that there are always two sides to every story. I will reserve judgement till I have heard both sides.

Just read your replies John and do tend to agree with your thoughts .I bought my Boxster and it was described a one previous owner and it was a company car it may have been driven by one person or used as a pool car ,but at least I knew this before purchase and still had a full years warranty left and has given me no issues after nearly 2 years ownership I understand how the buyer feels and does sound grieved with a list of faults that length but all can be rectified I would just say to him to watch his wording on the forum (crooks )all this can be read by any party I just hope it all gets resolved to his satisfaction
My car was serviced at Edinburgh and have no real issues with the service did have one issue but took it to Glasgow as was easier to sort .Glasgow is normally where I go but by using my own oil Edinburgh worked out £150 cheaper as Glasgow would not do this so lost out on a Warranty renewal and a service and brake fluid change £1300

Not at all surprised by this given our experience with Edin OPC. Overall it seems to be variable but when we hear folk praising them we do have a difficult time accepting that in light of our experience with them.

They should step up to the mark here and just sort this out for the guy.

Tony, didn't realise you have had problems with Edin OPC as well? Enlighten?
I did have a few problems when I went to purchase my 1st 997 but it was rectified toot sweet and the staff were extremely accomodating from there on. It was under the old management then though.
