ESS Rear Box - Views pls

Love the look of the ESS 6x4 Oval rear section. Just wondered what it's like to live with in terms of the sound. I don't want to buy something that's going to be intrusive (i.e boomy) in the cabin . And from the outside, I don't mind a little more noise to jazz up the fairly dull soundtrack of the standard kit, but I don't want something that'll have the Saxo boys giving me 'respect' either.

Anyone care to share their experiences?

It's a superb bit of kit. It has a deep throaty sound that seems to resonate under acceleration especially above 5k rpm. I don't think it's particularly noisy at all, I certainly didn't notice any increase in volume over the std backbox fitted previously so you shouldn't be branded a chav boy racer! Get one!

Couldn't resist a photo!!

Ive got the twin outlet pipe on my S2 ..Not noisy at all... Personally i think it looks nicer than the BIG oval...[ Chav, esk ]...
BUT everbody has different tastes....[;)][;)][;)]

I quite fancy the twin 3" exit ESS system - just can't justify it to myself as my std system looks and is just fine...... [&:]

Been in SlimBoyfat's car (before Matt951 took ownership) and I can confirm the oval 6" sounds great from outside, and great from within. More meaty as opposed to noisier (i think volume did go up, but it's certainly not chavvy or boomy).

Looks wise I wasn't sure - looks great from some angles, but following over a brow it looked the size of a water main [&:] .

Hmm, my only concern re. the twin pipe was that I thought it might look too modern for the car if you get my drift. Having said that, I haven't seen any pics aside from that one on the ESS site to confirm that opinion. My wife says she prefers the twin pipe though, so I must be right [;)]

Thought that by going for the oversize oval it would retain the right look 'n' feel. I should add that I'm only looking to replace my back box because the tailpipe bit fell off whilst in the previous owners posession and he had a round pipe welded onto the box which isn't all that pleasing to the eye.

Several of us have the ESS oval pipe, and when you get two or three together it makes the original pipe look quite weedy. It does look a bit Chav when you first put it on but it soon dirties up inside and looks fine.

Thanks for your input guys. Wish I hadn't asked now, as the twin pipes on Dave's car look really good too. Decisions, decisions...[&:]

I have one too! It certainly looks the part, it fits into the valance very neatly and looks as though it should have always been there. I don't think it looks "chav" on this particular car but gives a more muscular purposful appearance.
Don't be alarmed when you receive it in the post. that's if you decide to order one, as it does look very large when not attached to the car. It is made by Janspeed and therfor from past experience a quality piece of kit.

The noise level is not any more noticable than the origonal at normal crusing speeds, maybe a little deeper sounding, but when that turbo spools up it makes a wonderful noise.

IF you don't intend to fit it yourself, note that Halfords, Kwik Fit etc etc will not do it, I took mine to a local garage, even then they needed a bit of coaxing. I said it was a standard replacement piece! [;)] which it is really.

In reality 'The Chavs' are not going to consider a 944 in any circumstances - After all, thousands of pounds could be much better spent with ludicrous body kits, ICE and Rims...

After much consideration (well 24 hrs at least) and with the feedback I've received, it's 'the oval' for me too I reckon. Think the colour of the car is a factor and I reckon/hope the oval will blend well with the 'silver/touch of gold' look. Thanks to all who've taken the time to post and expect a new Avatar soon [;)]

WUF's twins are just a little bit larger then!

Aaargh - now I'm in two minds again. Maybe I'll just flip a coin...
