What about round single?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]It's not chosen for its aesthetic appeal and it is a few years old now, but it's another option to add to the confusion.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Best pic yet I've seen and confirms that it blends nicely with the lighter shades. Doesn't look ovaly large either - sorry, pathetic pun.

Fen - that kind of looks like what's welded onto my existing back box, but it just doesn't look right on mine, probably because it's a smaller diameter. Think you could have a square pipe on yours and still get away with it [;)]

The oval is, in reality, only oval from the rear silencer backwards. The entry into the oval is a 3" dia outlet at the back of the silencer.

This causes some interesting effects, which we have ruminated on previously. Principally, as the gasses exit the silencer, instead of maintaining velocity within a pipe they loose velocity by exiting into a larger space. This can increase the potential for exhaust flames [:)] and makes a rumblier sound. On the down side, it doesn't eject the spent gasses away from the rear of the car very efficiently. This being the case you do get a dirtier rear end.

It looks the nuts though, and is, in comparison to most options, a cheap rear box.

My rear end is much dirtier!! Not sure what to use to clean it up. Normal car shampoo isn't man enough for the task but I don't want to use anything abrasive like T-Cut.

Oh no, what a nightmare [:D]
Think I can live with a dirty bottom if those are the potential plus points

It was the throwing of flames on mine that caused the origonal tail pipe to drop off after giving it a good ragging up a slip road.[&:] There was a "pop" followed by a very throaty sound.

Not sure what it is going to do now when I get it back from Promax after its rehab (or should that be recon?)

I thought I was without Cat anyway being an early '89. You're about to tell me differently I suspect.

i opted for a Dansk exhaust on mine.
It is an exact replacement of what comes on the car standard only in stainless steel. Gives a lovely deep note but very quiet still on tick over inly when revs get high can you hear the SLIGHT difference.

I like the fact that it keeps the original look but is nice and shiny when driving behind the car ;)

Ta. Before I get the trolley jack out for the long postponed under body inspection, are there any sensors easily visible that will give me a definitive answer as to whether I'm in possession of a furry household pet?

A Turbo with a cat will have an oxygen sensor in the crossover pipe between the wastegate and the Turbo, it's tricky to see without removing the engine undertrays.

Another visible clue is the cat itself. The cat has rounded ends as it tapers down to the exhaust pipe and more heat shields. A non-cat car has square ends where the exhaust pipe goes into it.

Thanks Paul, will check it out. It's a moot point really, as if it has one, it's coming off anyway. Must have flames.... [:D]

The lambda plugs in on a bracket at the back of the inlet manifold.

If you don't have a lambda probe you will have a blanking plug, like Beaky used to have.

And, as everybody is posting pictures of their ESS tail pipes.....

Warning notice c/o Mr Cannell, stickers to order .co.uk

I wonder if the script applies to the exhaust or the way the car becomes a money pit. [&:]
