flat battery

Because I use my motor daily I haven't experienced 'flat battery syndrom' but I would be interested to know what the current drain is for these devices, if someone can come up with some figures.

Beaky - Mine has a retro fit immobiliser and it doesn't adversely affect the battery and sometimes its left for a month or more in the winter.

I would get concerned if I had a system fitted that killed the battery in a week or so. I suppose it's an interesting feature of a retro fit system that prevents theft by killing the battery. Certainly would make the thieves scratch their heads once they'd got in it!

Only kidding. I would still get the wiring checked out to make sure there isn't a leak to earth somewhere.

I have come up with figures between 2 mA and 20 mA

Assuming a battery capacity of 66 Ah [ Standard 911 3.2 ] and a drain of 0.02 A, the battery should theoretically last for 3,300 hrs OR 137.50 days OR 19.64 weeks OR 4.91 months.

Assuming two thirds capacity is required to maintain start capability, that makes it 1.64 months.

Should be enough time to park your alarmed / immobilised motor at the airport and have a well earned holiday.

Of course, if the drain is as high as 0.20 A, yer not gona be able to start yer car, but relax, it will still be alarmed / immobilised!

Discuss!

Just going checking the drain on mine...... if the bl00dy rain ever stops[]

Will post the results later!

With my "borrowed" battery 55Ah There is quite a lot of drain from immob/clock and whatever other electrical gremilns are hiding.....
I've been told that this will not leave the car dead within a fortnight though[:)]. Managed to steal an Optimate just incase though.....

wouldn't want to have problems on Friday, I have a very important meeting to attend Saturday/Sunday[;)]

So will be buying a new battery in the next week or so and possibly an optimate.

Got the roof of today though.....

Then got soaked.[]

Does anyone know if a bosch (0906?) 75amp battery is suitable in a 1984 Carrera? My current (excuse the pun) Bosch 66amp silver has given up the candle within its three year warranty and this the suggested replacement from euro car parts?

Harvey

Originally there was an option on a 66Ah or a 88Ah, so providing it will fit in the compatment correctly and the cabling is right I can't see any problem with doing that.

Many thanks Richard. I remember that on previous 1989 car you could opt for a larger capacity battery when it was new and though t this would be ok, will make sure it fits though as the space is restricted. All the best!

She started on the button tonight....[:)]
couple of pics after a wash and wax.....

Mean and moody[;)]

I use the Discarnect Immobiliser on my car, I also have a fairly new Bosch silver sealed battery, if I leave the fuse in to keep a trickle charge for the radio/alarm the battery will go flat in a week, I have to leave the fuse out to make it last. a real pain.

Hi
I would suggest you have the battery checked at a good supplier, rather than try and guess what could be the problem.

A battery conditioner/charger is also a good investment if the car is not being used regularly .

Always buy the best battery that you can afford as this will normally reward you in the end.

Have fun

Make sure your battery connections are nice and tight, and have no loose earth connections.

With the engine running check the alternator is charging the battery by putting a multimeter across the battery terminals. Should show +14volts. If OK you need a new battery, if not the alternator is at fault.

Just had a similar problem with mine.

Best of luck
Paul

Veg,

A multimeter will only get you so far in MHO. It will cost you nothing to get a professional opinion and the diags will show up whether it is battery, alternator or heaven forbid some other gremlin. Motorserve or similar will do the diag for you. And if it is the battery, a Bosche Silver Top from Eurocarparts.co.uk is as good as it gets.

Cheers
