For detailing obsessives

Sure I just posted this so if it appears twice apologies. I thought Dodo Juice was a clay bar lubricant. Same stuff?

Glad it's not just me then [:D]

How does that compare to Avalanche? I've not tried the Dodo Juice snow foam yet.

I couldn't tell you Simon – I've only used the Dodojuice one. All I can say is it works well [:)]

Somebody else might have used both and be able to comment though …

Its time for me to buy some more resin granules (CEDELITE) for my water filter canister. In the past I have purchased my resin granules from www.cleaningspot.co.uk over the weekend they are offering 10% however a 25 litre bag is £78 plus postage. Do any forum members purchase there resin granules from another retailer? I know raceglaze.co.uk sells it however its even more expensive (a 7 litre bag is £45 and a total replacement unit is just short of £100). I must say its been a few years since I needed to buy Replacement Water Filter Resin. Just thought I would ask before I place my order. Thank you.

JMR Have you tried "Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac"? I have started to use this product on my brake discs so they do not go rusty after washing and then dry the red dust coats your recently cleaned alloys []. Now I spray on "Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac" just before washing the alloys and another spray just after rinsing the alloys with water, and my discs don't go rusty even after water has splashed on them!

I think its a must if your brake discs are very visible.

I said I'd forget something :ROFLMAO:

Yes I use Atom-mac

I spray on the brakes before doing ANY washing, then I clean each wheel one at a time, and once finishing doing one, coat it again with Atom Mac.

I like it, as you say, it does what its supposed to do.

Also helps to avoid the brakes from binding on when you put the car in the garage for a few days after washing.

Hmm .. OK - confirmed 'amateur' detailer here too.

I tend to chop and change products depending on mood or the finish I'm looking for. This is my normal wash and finish routine:

1) Rinse with water to dampen all surfaces

2) Fine mist of Koche Chemie Green Star all over (diluted at 1:5 with tap water) - this softens the road film and bugs etc - leave this on for 5 mins or so. Doesnt really matter if it dries but easiest to remove if it doesnt.

3) Jet wash this off - you'll be amazed how clean this stuff gets your car without you even touching it.

4) Snow foam - I use AMFoam - its the best I have used (and its blue so you can see it on a white car) - rinse off after 10 minutes to dwell

5) 2 bucket wash using a decent shampoo - currently using Meguiars Mirror Bright

6) Dry off with plush drying towels and blower for the hard to get to places like wheels.... ah, forgot the wheels...

7) Wheels are done first so should be at the top of this list... Billberry juice (1:4 ratio) agitated with wheel woolies and soft brushes of various sizes... rinse, then fallout remover (Sonax is nice but Bilt Hamber is more of a gel and sticks to vertical surfaces better) - leave to dwell for 5 mins then agitate with brushes, then rinse - voila! Dont forget a stiff brush around the tyre walls...no one likes brown tyres...

8) Once every 6 months it will get clay bared - I use Bilt Hamber Regular or Auto Finesse Fine along with AF Clay Lube

9) Another rinse and dry same as above

10) Paint prep with pre-wax cleanse - I use Zymol HD Cleanse

11) At this point I can either wax it, seal it, glaze it or coat it... I like paste wax best but it doesnt last as long as a sealant or coating. Some waxes do two jobs - Soft 99's Fusso is excellent if applied right and polishes up like a wax but adds a PTFE sealant too. Zymol waxes are expensive but lovely to use with great results, same with Auto Finesse. I have also used Poorboys Natty wax which is great considering its low cost but their wheel sealant is pretty rubbish - GTechnic C5 is best for wheels or the new Wowos spray sealant. I have at least 20 or more so choices for the finish and it kind of depends what I fancy on the day. The latest fad is Zymol Rouge wax which is designed for red cars (mine is Guards red) and it works a treat at making the colour pop - but it doesnt last very long.

12) I often add a quick detailer over the top of the wax for added longevity or gloss - Sonax BSD is my go to product but I have been trying some others recently - wowos crystal sealant impressed me but needs careful application on paint work.

13) Glass - I just use 3M's glass foam with paper towels - works great as a cleaner but not as a hydrophobic coating - GTechnic G1 Glass system is good for that.

14) Tyres - I dress mine with 3M Tyre restorer - its not too shiny and looks factory fresh.

15) Exhaust tips and bright metal - polished with Britemax

16) Door rubbers - Sonax Rubber care

17) Engine bay - err, not really needed on the 991 but I would APC, steam clean and dress with Aerospace303 on my RS4's. Looked factory fresh afterwards.

18) Interior Leather wiped and treated using Dr. Leather wipes - no more shiny steering wheel...

I have not covered polishing or using the DA Polisher - I'll save that for another thread sometime...

There is enough there to fill even the most boring Sunday - its a long job but I love it..

I'm loving the obsession! #normalnotnormal

I had mine detailed recently with Gtechniq, Crystal Serum - see here - https://azuricarcare.co.uk/ . Was well worth it, the thing is like Glass now after each wash.

I've switched shampoo to Bilt Hamber Auto Wash - is amazing. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002OHXY96

Need to do better on the wheels, I have black wheels. Is this what you recommend - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DQA7W9I/

Re foam, how do you apply this. Long been a fan of AM Details, so may buy that, see its on Amazon too.

Cheers

Yes - but buy yourself a 1ltr spray bottle and buy the 1ltr concentrate from here -> https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/valet-pro-bilberry-wheel-cleaner. Just dilute it 1:4 in the spray bottle (they have these on the same site) - it will last you a lot longer.

Snowfoam - you need a foaming add-on for your jet washer or a foaming pump sprayer. See here for details -> https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/exterior/washing-and-drying/snow-foam - then just mix your own foam using between 1 and 2 inches of the concentrate in 1ltr bottle and top up with water. A 5 litre tub will last you ages.

Good routine Mak! Take the whole day over it?

Do you know if the Koche Chemie stuff is ok to use on PPF? I can’t seem to find anything meaningful on the Tinterwebs to tell me.

Thanks!

Hi Nigel,

You may get much better Bilt Hamber prices going direct. I make sure I have enough for a decent size order and go direct. Don't get me wrong, Amazon can be quick, but it isn't always the lowest price, and sometimes by far. You also will not go wrong with Bilt Amber Surfex HD as a general APC (All Purpose Cleaner) that can be diluted in varying amounts and even used as a Snow Foam (as Per Auto Express top snow foam awards) but it may work out expensive as a snow foam. I use BH Surfex HD in a 1% dilution for interior cleaning (but dont use APC on carpets, it wont stain, but APCs stick to carpets and will 'reactivate' when it gets wet, so may make your matts or carpet slippery) and up to 10% for doing wheels and other greasy areas, if needed.

https://www.bilthamber.com/

Also get yourself some Atom Mac, and dilute to about 3-5% and spray on your discs pst washing wheels to stop the orange occuring

As per above, a snow foam lance can be bought most places for your pressure washer, but don't get the cheapest looking plastic ones, they are not very good. The Karcher own grey looking one is terrible.

Foam sprayers can be good if you don't have a pressure washer but require some effort in pumping

Also, if your wheels are painted black, watch using nylon brushes to reach into the barrels, as it can mark the paint (not unrepairable but a nuisance). I used the long one for sale by PCGB to get right into the barrels on the 911, and its great. Used it on my Mrs new Golf wheels and am kicking myself. Nothing some time and polish wont fix, but, hey.

Makalu, you might want to try and use MicroFibre cloths or waffle weave MF cloths on glass. Leaves way less streaking and a better finish, as paper towels contain chemicals which add to the streaking effect. Of course just my opinion :)

Yeh tried this but I prefer the large blue 'industrial' paper towels so I can use many and discard after a single use. Waffle weaves and short piles are ok though - I just prefer this method over MF towels tbh.

Yes - most of the day. Koche is safe to use on pretty much anything - PPF should be fine. It would be the jet washing I would worry about more than the chemicals. :) - you dont want any lifting edges...

Magic, thanks Mak. I’ve been cleaning it pretty dedicatedly for the last couple of years, so yes, am careful with the jet wash. My car has only ever been cleaned by Topaz detailing and me – I even collected it, brand new, from the dealers without letting them clean it. Straight off the transporter filthy :) Drove it straight to Topaz for a detail and the PPF application.

Got it a bit filthy recently …

Have only given it a quick snow foam since then. It desperately needs a full-Sunday job!
