For sale for the last time one way or the other!

Well the sale fell through after much deliberation as the chap decided in the end that it was a lot of money for a 23 years old and he'd rather go for a new car than yet another classic. I can easily understand his decision but I also believe there is someone out there who will see the opportunity to have a freshly built engine with modern technology in a truly practical classic with very underrated appeal. If I didn't need the money then I would never sell her and if I find a way to get the money I need without selling the car I will most definitely keep her.

Currently though if anyone comes up with the cash then this car will make any driver very happy!

Oy Paul stop posting on my thread! You'll make the 3.2's look common![;)] Have you got her back with all the new mods and on full boost yet?? I didn't see her at Jon's? Although I didn't really look to be honest, I was distracted at the time!

Sorry I havn't called you back yet, I was waiting to see what happened with the chap who was coming to see the car and havn't had a chance since Sat.

Regards,

Ben

Sold to the Poprock from Glasgow [:D]

Y'know it's worth ÂŁ14k without the scoop [;)]

I'll buy a lottery ticket on Wednesday. If I win, I'll buy this car. I'll even pay ÂŁ14k. Deal?

In all seriousness I think the scoop will be putting people off. The ad describes a very grown up engine conversion done at great expense to a car that is a respectable modern classic, and lists a grown up asking price.

The scoop is at odds with that - the 944T has always had a FMIC so why fit an appendage that is associated with inferior top mounted ICs (I say this knowing it was like that when you bought it)? If I didn't know you and the car I would probably dismiss the ad because of that scoop and the tinted glass and rear lights. I might well even laugh at it and post the link on here for the amusement of others, and your car does not deserve that.

I wish you all the best with the sale, but I think it would attract the right sort of buyer more readily if it looked tidy but basically standard.

IIRC the scoop doesn't have a hole beneath it so removal should be relatively easy, though I always wondered if it was hiding some damage.

No damage under it but the previous owner has drilled through the bonnet with 4 bolts to fit the scoop if I were to remove it then I would have to replace the bonnet and find a new one because poly filled holes would stand out like a sore thumb next to the rest of the paint job. I have thought many times about replacing the bonnet but cannot find anyone I trust to do the job. Everyone seems to know someone who would be able to do it but the number of people who actually do proper blocked back and flatted out, show quality paint jobs seems to be very slim! The only chap I know (who is very good) said he'd struggle to match whats there and I really dont want to do the whole car because the guy who did it last time (the chap I bought the car from) re-spayed cars for a living and has clearly put a lot of time into the car. Don't want to ruin its current look. So I've ended up keeping it! Totally agree that it is going to affect the way the car sells but a new owner with some new enthusiasm could easily fix any minor cosmetic issues that they dont like. I've done all the expensive bits!

Ben

Hmm. I understand, but to be honest I wouldn't pick up the phone because of the scoop if I was potential buyer who didn't know the car or you so I'd never see the paint finish. On the other hand I'd be happier driving a car with a slightly off paint finish on the bonnet than a scoop it isn't meant to have. How different can the paint be?

Alternatively how about louvreing or some other means of disguising the marks left by the scoop that could be passed off as extra cooling for the monster engine underneath?

I'm with Fen on this one. Get a bonnet from Porsheapart or the like. Most people would be happier with a slighly off colour bonnet than a carbancle. The only good thing about that scoop is it isn't on my car. It makes the car look cheap and tacky. I'd rather have four holes or four holes with little rubber plugs in them.

Just realised I posted my view on the wrong thread - doh [8|]

The scoop will certainly put people off and possibly stop them from reading (or believing) the details regarding the fine 3.2L engine [:)]

Is there any way of finding the P.O. and having him publicly flogged just for the inconvenience and idiotic bad taste....I'd pay a tenner to see that.[]

I think this was the same car and the first 944 I looked at when I first went on the search for a car some 4 to 5 years ago. Was for sale in a Garage up near Bradford/Leeds way.

Althought I thought the car looked in great condition, had heaps of paperwork with it and I even liked the red interior contrast to the black I did not even take it for a test ride due to bonnet scoop, blacked out windows and rear lights.

Shame because I really liked everything else and thought other than that was a Minter[:D]

Hey that actually was my car! That must have been just before I bought it because he didn't have it advertised for long. I'd been looking for ages but didn't see another in the same condition so I put up with the bits that weren't to my taste! I quite like the idea of putting something subtle and less offensive in where the holes are.. thats actually a pretty good idea. Thanks.

..probably more relevant if I'm keeping her though than if it sells. Got to admit all the interest I am getting in the car comes from people who know it and not from randoms. I think I would be inclined to disbelieve the engine work if I were an onlooker who saw the pics too. I totally agree with all sentiments but just not sure about changing the bonnet. Maybe if Jon has one in stock. I'll ask.

Ps yes it does need brakes and LSD to perfect really but these aren't really expensive items and I'd be inclined to keep the suspension as is. Harder suspension may be an advantage on a smooth track but on the roads where I live the 944 was WAY faster than my Z4 M Coupe! Its hugely stiff and just jumps and skitters over the bumps where the 944 always finds traction.

Ben

p.s. lovely on a smooth A road though
