Formula 1 team factory visit - 15 September 2006

Oh yes! I was reading something about a change of team owner a couple of weeks ago and only just seen that it's happened.

I will have a map and instructions for Friday in PDF format tomorrow. As I don't have email addresses for everybody is it possible to attach the PDFs to a post on the forum?

Cheers

Lloyd

Lloyd,

The upload limit is 200Kb - so it'll have to be a pretty small pdf. Otherwise you'll have to load it up to a web server somewhere and provide a hyperlink to it from the forum message. If you don't have a server available e-mail the pdf to me (davew@computamedic.co.uk) and I'll put it on mine.

Dave

Dave

There are two, small, PDFs to publish. If you can make them available and post the link here that would be much appreciated. I'll email you.

Also, one place has become available if there is any further interest.

Cheers

Lloyd

Just to say a quick thanks to Lloyd for arranging a very interesting visit this afternoon. It never ceases to amaze me just how much money a Formula 1 team can spend. Even at Midland's relative position (compared to Renault/Ferrari etc) the fact that they have 6 trucks to service the races at €1M EACH!!!

A walk around the shop floor like that just brings home the sheer amount of work and the absolute detail that they work with - all in the interests of advertising and furthering their knowledge. Truly amazing!!

When's the Ferrari visit then??? Maybe Red Bull might be a bit more realistic!!

Thanks again.

Regards

Dave

Yes, thanks Lloyd it was nice to see behind the scenes. So much carbon fibre, so little time......

It would be nice to see their fortunes improve under the new ownership and an injection of cash.

And we shouldn't forget to mention the new Toyota engine that had an RMS problem!

Well allright, an oil leak. (But that's normal)

Great day. Thanks.

Hi Lloyd

Many thanks for organising this - really informal and a great insight, and always good to put some faces to names [:)]

Here's hoping their new cash injection can move them further up the grid

Cheers

Pete

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad it went down well and it was good to meet some new faces. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A couple of funny bits - the oil leak definitely and nice photo but ... I seem to have grown a flag pole! Don't you hate it when that happens.

Cheers

Lloyd

Just to add my thanks, again, to Lloyd for putting this together. Great afternoon. Even the weather held, allowing me a pleasant run up to the factory in the turbo [:)].

The hosts and tour guide were great - even mid change of owner! Please make sure they know how grateful we all were.

Will make watching F1 just that little more interesting for the next few races and early next year.......[8|]

If anyone else has a good idea like this, let me know.

So are any of you going to watch the F1 testing on the 19-20-21st ?
as in a few days away........

email from silverstone here...........

Eliot,

It's very tempting. I might try to work in some free time if I can. BTW, the guys at Midland said that Thursday is the deadline for shipping the parts containers for the Shanghai race so it wouldn't surprise me if Thursday was fairly quiet as far as testing is concerned.

They (Midland) will be running their new Spyker livery in Shanghai but I have a feeling their test car may still be in the MF1 livery - it certainly was when they were building it on Friday. The two race cars were away being painted when we visited although the T car had already been done.

Regards

Dave

the midland was in the new orange spyker colours today
they ran all day, it went very well

i will post a link tomorrow with the F1 test pics when i upload them online, PS. i took a few [:)]

Elliot - just ben looking at some of your pics - by the look of it, you must have been standing right next to me !
I was at Luffield for about an hour in the morning, and an hour in the afternoon.

David

[:D] strange...........small world

im still trying to get pbase working correctly, the thumbs arent regenerating correctly !

NOW FIXED.............

I noticed in last weeks Autosport that Spyker / Midland had a full page advert for new staff - Areodynamicists etc (including one for Comms Technician - one for Lloyd maybe [;)])

Looks like the new cash is kicking in already - hope it helps them, they seem a really friendly bunch

Pete
