Formula 1 team factory visit - 15 September 2006

Hi Elliot

Sounds good - any access to the paddock on test days, or is that a daft question in F1?

ORIGINAL: burrow01

including one for Comms Technician - one for Lloyd maybe [;)])

Pete

Hey, I could do that ! What was the pay like ??

cheers, Maurice

Pay is probably in line with the status of the team [;)]

Lloyd was telling me he used to do it for Stewart / Jaguar, so he would be the best person to ask [:)]

Well they were certainly at the track today. Couldn't tell you which ones though. I'll have to pay more attention to the engine note so that I can work out who's there from the engine sound alone.

(That really is the epitome of being an anorak, i'll stop now)

Been away for a few days and came back to a few posts and some very good pics from the test session.

Re the Comms Technician job, my wife reminded me that it doesn't matter what the pay is like as she'd leave me if I travelled that much with work again!

I'm out of touch with the jobs and likely pay, and I didn't see the Spyker jobs that Pete mentioned, but I'd imagine a 'basic' comms technician travelling rather than factory based would be on something around 45 - 50k (I'm actually quite curious about the pay levels now).

Cheers

Lloyd

Just as a quick follow-up to the Midland visit, by sheer coincidence, I happened to do a job the other day for the Procurement Manager at Red Bull Racing and I mentioned that we would be interested to "do the tour". He said they were pretty accomodating of such things and it was just necessary to write in and ask if it could be arranged.

I'm not suggesting we arrange anything hastily - perhaps it would make sense to wait until after the end of the season, or even wait until next season, but if it's something we would be interested in I could at least get some more information about who to talk to.

He suggested that Williams would be a good visit too since they have on-site wind tunnels etc. I have a Customer Relations contact at Williams so could enquire there too.

Dave

As was suggested at the time of the factory visit, I see that Spyker MF1 have, today, confirmed their use of Ferrari engines for the 2007 season. See the full story here.
