Front splitters

The examples that simply bolt on the front dont have any effect at all beyond the cosmetic afaik. I have got one of the full tray examples and having fitted it, I did feel that maybe (just maybe) a degree of postive effect is obtained on the road in the faster corners with the car feeling a bit more pointy. Thats said its only an empirical seat of the pants feeling that may indeed be genuine or may in fact be my brain inventing something to justify the considerable outlay for a pukka one. That said they do look good . [;)]

I quite fancy one of these on my 944T but currently only for cosmetic reasons.
So for a standard road car (ok it may gain a stage 2 kit in due course) does it actually have any useful effect?
Ebay sales suggest that some fully replace the under engine tray but some only bolt on the front. For a red car do people tend to stick to red or try black or even carbon fibre (effect )?
Thanks

I Love my splitter, £160, is the full replacement undertray and i think it does make a difference to the front end even though i didnt expect it too!

If you want one as above. I.e. complete undertray type finished in fibreglass gloss black, pre-drilled - let me know. I have one for £140. 944T and S2 only. (Brand New) Rich

I highly rate the full under tray versions. The gouges and grazes on the underside of mine demonstrate that they do give some protection to the underside of the engine if nothing else. Porsche designed our cars (Turbo/S2 fronts) with under trays. This will impact on the air flow both under the car and through the engine bay. IMHO it would be less than preferable not to maintain an under tray of some sort. Andrew Sweetenham (renown 944 racer) states that front splitters do make a positive impact on the cars handling. That's good enough for me.

Rich, Do you recall where it came from? There seems to be quite a quality range out there. Thanks David

Hi, I've been considering ordering a replacement undertray until I saw this thread. Can anyone advise me the different variations and where to get them. I have just done a search on ebay and found two one being from a company in Hatfield. Are there any others that should be considered. My original spec was for an under tray but I must admit the splitter does look good :)

Jason, I got mine from here. [link=http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/]http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/[/link] I think ESS (Now called SAR ?) also supply, or used to supply, the same/very similar piece though could not find it on their website when I looked a moment ago. Both are more expensive than some but of very good quality.

Another variation on the theme... The ESS version is the same type as was used by the 944 Turbo Cup race cars back in the late 90's/ early 2000's Racecar drivers wouldn't put it on for purely cosmetic reasons, though its worth remembering their cars are often much lower than ours and also go round corners at much greater speed which will obviously help any effect.

You mean these? [link=http://944-951parts.com/id70.html]http://944-951parts.com/id70.html[/link] Don't think they'd be competetive when you add the cost of shipping. I can ask the guy, Chris Patrick, for a PCGB price as he's one of my resellers[;)]

I bought one from Rich (rcsalmons on here) and was more than happy with the fit, quality and price. Looks especially good on red turbo/S2 I found...![;)]

Yes, these ones ;)

The guys on the 968UK forum have found that the Seat Leon Cupra R Splitters fit remarkably well and are remarkably cheaper than the usual ones. I will see if I can get some detail Edit: They cost between £16 and £20!!!!!!

I have an ESS fibreglass splitter with undertray which I bought for a project which never materialised - hence never used. It is sitting at my parents in Leeds at the moment and is available if you want it. I bought it with a tiny chip to surface of the leading edge - about 1/2 cm in size. I'd take £110 plus postage. Can arrange detailed pictures (PM me) if you are interested.

I'm afraid it was me that was responsible for the Seat splitter mod. I fitted one to my R32 daily driver (a popular mod with the VW guys.) I had bought a spare and it was laying around the garage, with my 944 Turbo track car also in the garage on axle stands it was inevitable that I would try it! It was easy to fit and looked great, so I thought I would try one on my 968CS. It took a bit more work than the Turbo but still straightforward enough. I was at the PCGB track day at Donington last summer in the CS and my splitter mod proved to be well liked, so it has been done quite a few times on 968's. I have photos of the splitter on the CS but have not taken any of it on the Turbo - it is still on axle stands! I will try to take some at the weekend if it will be of any help. I am not convinced the Seat splitter is big enough to create any significant downforce, but they do look right and at less than £20...

Ha! I've been trying to find a suitable 'other make' splitter for ages now! Golf VR6 too small, current Astra hatch wrong shape, can't wait to see it on a '44. I currently have one of the ESS style ones (thanks Rich) but I'm not convince with the front 3-quarter view as it seems to 'square' the front a little. Neil, my bro has an R32 MK5, is that what you have? Is it an easy fit here also? Do you have a piccie? Thanks, Ben

Is it possible to fit it and retain the standard undertray?
