Front splitters

Hi Ben How are you - we have communicated before regarding my CS buckets and rear cage! Mine is only a MKIV, albeit very highly modified, and it does have some token Porsche bits in the form of 993tt big reds and discs with 996 staggered Sport Classic 2's. I can't leave anything alone! If you go on the VW forum "UK-MKIV's" you will find there is also a section for MKV's. I have not seen one on a MKV, but they are not really on my radar, so it may have been done!
 
ORIGINAL: 944Turbo Is it possible to fit it and retain the standard undertray?
I have not refitted the undertray on the Turbo yet as it is still a work in progress! I did however use the standard undertray/batwing on the CS with the splitter between it and the PU. So it will work in the same way on the Turbo.
 
Oh it's you Neil - did have my suspisions! All good here ta - ended up with some Corbeau sprint buckets and a half cage from Pete who posts on here. Thanks for the forum tip, I'll let my brother know. Looking forward to the '44 splitter pics....

Will try and get some better pictures, was concentrating more on that little pad in the background. I cut the centre of the batwing back a little to make it fit but fairly straight foward. part number is 1ML 805 903 and it was Ă‚ÂŁ22 I used self tapers to align it and then replaced with rivets. It was slightly too long but easy to trim back in line with the wheel arch. For install tips I particularly like http://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/180310-cupra-splitter.html but there are guides all over the web for other cars. I ran a couple of aluminium bars behind the grill to hold the centre brackets on the lower section - I thought it might flap in the wind otherwise. Tony

Just contacted my local Seat dealership, Ă‚ÂŁ22 inc Vat [:D] speacial order in by friday, magic [:D] Tony, have you removed the original under tray at the front or does it fasten to that?
 
As you found - dont buy on ebay! I looked for my local Seat dealer online - which turned out to be a skoda dealer when I went to pick it up! I replaced the original undertray - though I had to trim a strip about 10mm wide from the front centre. You have to drill the new splitter where the old fixings mount and I used slightly longer screws as it is easier to put in on that way - stainless are best as they are quite prone to corrosion. And thanks to Neil for bringing it to our attention
 
Oh and yes drop and remove front undertray, Align splitter in centre - I then drilled through the splitter into the bracket on the PU for holding undertray - second from centre each side - the centre 2 will be in fresh air. The PU brackets are quite wide so you can get a couple of fixings in whilst keeping away from the original undertray retaining speednut. I then worked round one side drilling and fixing as I went self tappers bite quite nicely into the PU brackets - I cut the wheel arch bit roughly as the splitter is too long for a 944 and otherwise it hits the tyre while you work. Once its fixed all the way round it can be cut more neatly junior hacksaw was fine. I replaced self tappers with rivets as there is less chance of them ending up in the front tyres ;) Once both sides were fixed into position the centre lower section was a slightly floppy. On the rear of the PU there are 2 vertical pieces in the grill, these are quite substantial so I ran some alloy strips from these to the vertical 'legs' on the splitter and just used self tappers into the PU and splitter. drill the splitter where the original mounts for undertray were - I just made a small hole in the splitter in the centre of the speed nut on the pu. I then held the undertray (bat wing) up to the splitter marked it to cut the centre - its suprisingly tough. I cut slightly too much so go easy I reckon 10mm wide strip max (from front edge) Then once the fixings were all in as I had cut slightly too much so I drilled up through the batwing into the centre of the splitter 'legs' and added a couple of self tappers there as extra support. take some photos! I didn't as my phone was broken

Hmmmm, something for my 924 friend to suggest (He has a rotten S2 and 2.5 and plans to use the bits from both to turn his mint 924 into something a little special).

Having seen it in the flesh on Sunday, I agree it looks very good indeed. When Beaky's dies again I will be giving it some serious consideration.
 
Picked mine up this afternoon, really chuffed with it, its quite rigid, good quality. I'm sure if Porsche found this out they would be buying them in and charging 10 times the amount [:D][:D][:D]. Will see if I can get it fitted tomorrow!!
 
Well I managed to get it fitted this morning before the rain started. Will need a couple more fasteners here and there to make it sound and I've yet to fit the undertray back on but you get a good idea of how easy it is from some photos I took [:D] I used these type of fasteners, two of which I was able to pick up the original holes/brackets on the PU

Used the smaller ones with 8mm heads which self tapped nicely into the PU once a small pilot hole was drilled. Kindly assisted (or is that hindered) by Finn [:D]

and then using a small hacksaw to trim the ends off, only done roughly at the minute to avoid the tyres as I'm not sure how I want to shape the tips yet.

Not bad for two hours work! Could have happily ploded on with it all day but rain has stopped play [:(][:(] Looking at it I think the centre section will want stiffening a little and you can see the leading egde of the PU through it so I might paint that section mat black and maybe put some black mesh behind it to protect the radiator as you can get your fingers through it but its a good start, even if I do say so myself [:D]
