Garage test drove car after changing tyres - I'm fuming

Sorry to read about the incident totally unacceptable - must say though I give any tyre fitting companies the third degree before letting them near the GTS and as a result end up back at the OPC or one selected fitting company and I still watch them like a hawk.
Surprising how quiet even the supposedly reputable ones go when I tell them the centre locks need 600 Nm of torque ( inadequate wrench syndrome[;)])

Some years ago I had a 530i took it for four new tyres at a very reputable BMW dealer came back to see my car having wheel spins in the car park with smoke coming from the tyres , I was off the roof with anger , the service manager apologised and replaced the tyres and offered to sack the chap, I said no but an official warning should be given .

We are more than happy for people to watch what we are doing when fitting tyres carrying out wheel alignment or doing repairs to their car for that matter. Our workshops are open and the customer reception is in the tyre bay for that matter. That said if a customer gets over zealous about his or her wheels, gets in the way and something happened that's their problem. Believe me the customer that will not let you breath until you have finished their job are more likely to cause a problem than one that is happy for us to carry out the job in the normal fashion. The OP should have been able to take his pride and joy in to his local tyre retailer and have his tyres fitted without having his car thrashed up the road. On the flip side we give a premium service for customers that buy tyres from use and not the internet.

I'm interested to know what the "premium" service is as opposed to the standard one - an extra cuppa coffee or something? [:D]

Regards,

Clive.

Tyre supplied by us are more than just balanced we have a Hunter GSP9700 vibration control balancer. On all mid range and premium tyres we force match wheel and tyre assemblies this will improve tyre life ride quality and vehicle pulls. We will position wheels one the car in the best location for this size dependent ie we are not going to fit the rear tyres to the front. We will also discount wheel alignment when customers purchase tyres from us, so for those that seem to think it's ok to take the p*** without finding out what a premium service may entail keep buying your tyres on line. You may find that it's not as cost affective as you think especially if you end up arguing with the retailer over over revs. By the way we have had Audi, Ford and BMW dealers had to come to us to sort vibration issues out they can't solve. [;)] Happy to help out with advise for anybody will to take it. 25 years dealing with tyres 28 years a mechanic [:D]

dont think people taking piss Matt just light hearted banter[:)]

and i suspect most like me get the OPC to source and fit the new tyres -they always come up trumps to match any on line prices i seem to find -at least so far

Not really worried about a bit of leg pulling as I'm aware most people have never experienced the extra lengths we go to to please the more discerning. [;)] That said some drivers just would never know the lengths we go to to turn out the best job possible. Still thanks for the reply [;)]

All sorted, got a full refund from Evans Halshaw for the tyre fitting, they paid for an over rev test at my OPC and it was all clear in rev ranges 5 & 6
Also got the OPC to do a full valet, had several coffees and bottle of water!
Result!

Good resolution then.
Whilst it's not right what they did, at least you can relax and enjoy the car without any long term worries.

Good result, if I ever need to leave my car with anyone I make a point of clearly photographing the instrument gauges, can be quite amusing!
