GT4 RS - any information from OPCs?

Darn. Now I'm really annoyed that I couldn't get an allocation (I mean, duh, I wasn't going to get one). That's one heck of a car - 500PS!!!

Rumour has it there will be one last in a couple of years with this engine and a manual 'box. Think 911R - limited edition etc.

That'll be the daddy and last of the ICE Caymans...

It would be nice to think that would be the case Dave but - leaving aside the usual gripes about the high gearing - as always thereā€™s the question of the torque capacity of the Getrag transmission. I would have thought that a bespoke unit for what would be a very limited production run would be out of the question, but who knows?

Jeff

Spyder RS is coming, and I can see them sharing a 'box along with a high price tag to signal a last hurrah for the Cayman and Boxster. US guys will be all over them.

I didn't think they'd give the GT4RS the full GT3 engine including ITBs, which they have, so I'm not ruling anything out any more!

Yup ā€¦ anything goes ATM Dave. ZF have come up with bespoke components for the PDK transmission so Iā€™m sure Porsche will be asking the question of their competitor Getrag who supply the manual unit.

It should be remembered that the death of IC engines and the rise of electric traction will bring a huge change in transmission requirements as well since EVs donā€™t require a multi-ratio gearbox (although the Taycan has a two speed rear end unit), so this is a last chance for the transmission manufacturers to show some flexibility. The bean counters will be hard at work! [;)]

Jeff

Interesting to note that the front axle lift system is available on the RS ā€¦ but not (yet!) on the standard GT4. And on an even more track-oriented car you still have to pay for the Chrono Package and preparation for lap trigger - stingy old Porsche!

Jeff

There is no rumor on a manual GT4 RS unless twinfan just stared his own one ;-0

I know it has the GT3 older unit not the WP engine, but it also has less torque and the Caymans very basic rear sus layout.

Unless you want to be seen in this car the 991.2 GT3 is the better car to own and of course the only real Manual GT3 car in the last 6 years, also has more torque than the new GT4 RS and less weight, Porsche have placed this car below a GT3 but if you spec Mag's and WP priced above a GT3. As no WP available on a normal Gt3. But spec for spec GT4 RS still Ā£10k less than a Gt3 ! I don't see the point in it speced up to Ā£145k ! with WP. best money is 991.2 GT3 money imo, and pick the gear box you want and have the better car. Put R spec rubber on a 991.2 GT3 and it will lap faster than the GT4 RS and be far more usable for EU trips, plus no OPF's to worry about.

GT4 RS really now is a track hack and I see no point in it for road use bar cars and coffee. Not saying this because I own one, as I don't drive mine bar for cars and coffee :) So selling up for a more life style based car. I don't have GT track hack money to use these as intended, so now sorry to see it going to be sold.

991.2 GT3 has NO equals if you want the manual GT experience imo, and for 60/40 use again 991.2 GT3 still the car to own imo over a GT4 RS or the new 992 GT3. Hence why manuals are never in stock at OPC's and always sell, although one has come into stock at a shocking high Ā£155k with no PCCB or LEDS's !! So that will in interesting to see if some one bites a low spec car for Ā£155k with 2 owners and 7k miles.

who is the GT4 RS WP market at Ā£145k Bar VIP's who can flip them ? all be it if you get a slot it's a free car to use I guess. My GT3 is now 3.5 years old and it's still worth more than I paid for it. SO why say NO to anything offered I guess. Odd car at this price point but happy they made it. Manual 718 RS Spyder please.

In mathematical terms, for me (and the majority of Cayman owners too!):

GT4 = U

GT4 RS = U**2

Where U = Unobtanium

Nice to see 'armchairs' with heating available to keep us moaning about anyone who specs them.

Also clocked no deviating stitching available, yet PTS is (EU only), weird.

Itā€™s an epic car but even at list imo a 991.2gt3 is a better buy, no gpf and manual! Crazy talk of Ā£100k+ overs on PH. If your a track rat better off buying a Gt3RS

Great car but a lot of hype to be honest especially if anyone is paying substantial overs!

yep hype sells cars alright

always was going to be hard making a Cayman GT3 money !

don't make sense to me. Engines too good for the chassis now. So a 991.2 GT3 every time and you have your choice of gear box, good thing is you can still buy very low miles cars for less than A WP GT4 would be.

The issue here is a low spec one would be best ie no WP and no Mag wheels and try and stay sub Ā£120k, but the sort of buyers who will get the allocation will all Spec WP and mags and PTS making the car too expensive 2nd hand down the line for a car inferior to a GT3 ! odd that spec is >Ā£150k !!

people moaning about not getting one, buy a GT3 and flash them over down craner curves, that will make you feel better. because that basic "macpherson strut rear unit on a Cayman" is never going to net you 120mph down there like a GT3 can do :).

even the ring laps the car looks unstable where the GT3 is rock solid every where, and while I love mid engine, the more grip you have the car will bite a lot of people when it does let go, I do see people crashing these going forward. AP already said it will snap on you !

I have to say a 718 normal PDK GT4 is prob the better car all round for Ā£25k less than this new RS. 420 hp is plenty for a GT4.

I love the GT4 RS idea but it will be a collectors car stuck in garages in PTS WP mag wheel spec !!!

Basically 100% correct.

I would take one if offeredā€¦ basic spec as detailed above because itā€™s a track tool for meā€¦. But if I donā€™t get oneā€¦. 991.2 GT3 with some minor tweaks is probably in my future as more come to market in the next 12months or so.

I'm underwhelmed by the GT4RS. Porsche have taken the Cayman in completely the wrong direction in my personal opinion.

I was more impressed with the Mission R Cayman concept car in the current PP edition than I am with the GT4RS.

Mr Demon has it correct in my opinion regarding the GT3/GT4 choices.
