GT4 service

Mine could be an interesting conversation ... :)

Don't change the SRF brake fluid that was renewed 1000 miles ago, don't play with the modified suspension and geo, don't mess with the new ST discs and Pagid pads, please change the oil if you must --- and it could be timely to change the gearbox oil after 10,000 miles --- to maintain the OPC service history.

??

Circa £300 per annum sounds pretty reasonable to me[:)] I expect the 4 year one will be twice that though....

I've just booked my GT4 in for the 2 year service, car has 9k miles. I enquired a few months ago and was told that the cost was around £460 but today I was informed that its more for the GT4, more like £580!
I asked what the difference was and the chap said it could be down to different sump-plug washers or oil filters! I told him that I recently bought a sump plug washer from them and that it was £1.98. To his credit he went through the the items covered which was mainly swapping oil and brake fluid plus the usual checks which I was surprised to learn included a geometry check (queue Mr D.). I would be welcome to spend time with the engineer or have video updates of progress. Fair enough.
I'll brace myself for being encouraged to swap all four tyres and the full set of pads, I'm not inclined to do either just yet.
Is the extra cost justified compared with a regular Cayman? I'm struggling to see how.

£580 is the price quoted on Porsche website for minor service and brake fluid change £485/£95 for all 981

* Prices for Participating Centres only

Get a quote and negotiate..

I supply oil and SRF brake fluid (Opie Oils give 10% PCGB discount) as they can't / won't price match

Chris, make sure whoever did the change stamps the service book as your Centre may note that they excluded that from your service

Minor service includes:

[ul][*]Fault code analysis

[*]Replacement of pollen filter

[*]Replacement of oil filter and engine oil using Mobil 1 oil

[*]Provision of one litre Mobil 1 top-up pack

[*]Inspection of: vehicle underside and engine compartment, coolant hoses, coolant (level and antifreeze check), radiator, air intake, brake system, brake hoses and lines, drive shafts, tyres, locks and latches, electrical equipment, horn, windscreen wiper washing system, power steering and fluid level check and lighting system (including headlights and indicators)

[*]Final test drive to check all major safety, comfort and mechanical systems for effective operation followed by final post-drive fluid level check

[/ul]The list above is the Porsche 2 year service shown on the Porsche site for non GT/Spyder 981s. Maybe they do check alignment but I'd be very surprised if they do and would they change what you are presumably happy with to something else?

Ian,

As said above, I think they're quoting for the Minor Service and Brake Fluid Change. Clearly there's variation between PCs - Hatfied for instance quote "from £485" for the Service and £150 for the Brakes.

I wouldn't think that a geometry check is normally included in the price so that's a bonus.

I gave up taking my own oil as a) the saving didn't seem worth the effort and b) the service manager said they would match whatever price I could get it for elsewhere.....

Do members get 10% off those website prices on the supplied parts?

Thanks all, good information.

To be fair the guy on the phone sounded very young and when I queried the price versus the one that the service desk gave me when I was last in there, he started flapping and offered suggestions as to the extra work likely to be covered which included the tracking. He even said that it takes about two hours but I'm inclined to agree that it won't happen.

I didn't give him a hard time, nor will I mention it when I settle up. It's not my style and I want to keep well in with them for the future, whatever that may hold.

Have you checked out the price of Mobil 1 at Costco recently? I recently bought 5 litres for under £30

They plug in PIWIS, run a Service program which directs them though the checks and work required. It is all driven by the program and the technician just follows the work order and inputs results/work completed. If you wanted a report on overrevs it is simple for them to run, but outside the PIWIS Service Program.

Do they deliver? My nearest one would be about a 140 mile round trip which might negate the saving.....[:)]

Thanks Ralph, and apologies to the OP for taking this thread off on a tangent.

they might check it lol but then phone you up to say it's £300 to put it right :)

That's what they did at my first service ... told me that the tracking was slightly out but that it would cost for them to correct it.

It was so little out it wasn't worth doing but it's also my understanding that a set-up which is correct for one Geo "set-up" can easily be slightly different on another ...

For example, JZM and Tracktorque ... interesting that despite a .3 degree difference in the L/R camber with Tractorque, the tyres appear to have have worn completely symmetrically with no adjustment (which would have required a shim).

Ralph, thanks for the reminder on the Brake Fluid change stamp ...

Hi Paul,

Glad you managed to get Mobile 1 0w40 from your local Costco as I can't find a Costco that sells it any more. I've tried Hayes in West London and Farnborough branches - nil stock.

Peter
