GTS 4.0

Just noticed on the configurator yet another price increase of £700 this time only 8 weeks after a £1300 rise

I think Porsche are really taking the p--- now

Yes. They recently announced that they are going to start building cars at a Volkswagen factory to help supply the demand. That means in the long term resale values will drop as well.

I believe all the 981 Cayman/Boxster models were built at Osnabrück, the old Karmann Ghia factory which doesn't seem to have had an influence on residuals.

It was a poke at the increased number of cars that will be around rather than the quality of the factory. At the moment inflation is high so production cost will rise. Porsche probably want to maximise profit before the recession reduces orders anyway.

odd move wasn’t it, to separate both increases like that.

if it helps, I’m picking mine up in a few weeks so I’ve dodged the initial 1300 and the subsequent 700. I’ve also got a friends who has a freeze point of August-end, for a delivery on Nov, whose OPC have waived the 700 increase because he vented his frustrations

I was looking at a October build, but was told yesterday that due to micro chip shortages the car would come without PDLS led lights and no speed limiter. As you can imagine as was not best pleased to say the least

the three options given were. Take the car with reduced price less options, cancel my order, wait for another allocation with spec I want and incur any price rises that my happen

after waiting 17months I was given a day to make up my mind

As this is my dream car I am not willing to cut corners on my spec so have chosen to wait

don`t no if I am doing the right thing but felt pressured into making a quick decision

It does seem a bitter pill to swallow. At least you have limited options. My Mecan turned up in June with 18 way adjustable seats minus the steering wheel motors. The excuse was limited chips and parts so the car was sent without. The only time I got to know was after I signed the handover and went to make adjustments to the seating position. A cash refund was agreed and paid back into my bank account. Your not telling me though that the dealer wasn’t told until it arrived.

I think you have made a difficult decision but who knows, fingers crossed it may turn out in your favour. If the market shrinks due to hard times on the horizon, then wait times will surly shrink as well.

My conversation with dealer indicated they had been told there was no chance of the the LEDs becoming available at any point. The main issue is regarding the camera which PDSL+ uses, hence the loss of Speed Limit warnings.

If they are unable to supply them at build time then any subsequent repair/replacement is going to be troublesome, which was what swung me to accept the downgrade to Xenon PDSL lights.

I'd not specced the Speed Limit warning as it is likely to be used by any ISA systems which legislators may decide you must activate if suitable hardware is fitted to your vehicle.

I’m hopefully picking up my new (to me) Boxster GTS 4.0 this week. It comes with the standard bi-xenon lights and to be honest I’m not too worried.

I had the LED PDSL+ lights on my Macan - and they were woeful in comparison to the matrix lights on the 992 / Panamera / RS3 / RS6 that I’ve driven. I’m not sure they are really worth the upgrade, if they offered Matrix lights that would be a different story!

OMG Glenn, what a nightmare situation, I have been following your story on and off since last year and was amazed to read today of the current situation 😱 Still no further forward and sold your old Boxster. I think we have all been caught out by the perfect storm of unfortunate events. Firstly the introduction of the unloved 4cyl car has denied the market of 5 years worth of quality used 6cyl models which would of taken the pressure off the new car market, as an owner of a 14 plate 981s I would of changed for another low mileage 4.0, but now we have no option but to buy a new 4.0 as there is little or no decent stock. Interesting a few Cayman 4.0 for sale but very few Boxster. So together with the Ukrainian situation, shortage of computer chips and the fact Porsche will soon be gearing up to produce Boxster EV, I fear time is running out for the 6cyl we all love.

In a recent Parker’s Guide report into new car delays, the Volkswagen group had half a million cars on order ! and the EU has just announced that all new cars built from this month need to be fitted with a host of new safety features which will need even more computer chips. I hope you eventually take delivery of what will become a very rare motor vehicle, I however think I have left it too late ☹️

Oh no Glenn, that’s a disappointment. But having had both the LED PDLS+ on my GTS4.0 I can say that the LED lights were indeed excellent - bright, white and with a greater spread.

When my replacement GTS4.0 came with the BiXenon PDLS I was concerned that they would not be good enough, but I need not have worried, they are more than good enough, and I’m still capable of working a dip switch myself. (Btw the standard non PDLS Bi Xenon are quite dismal and should be avoided)

the Speed limit display was nice to have. But it’s not a deal breaker. I hope you can get you car soon now and enjoy it and once you have it you won’t worry about light os speed limit display.

Finally picked up my GTS4.0 manual in Aventurine Green yesterday. Ordered in Oct 2021. I’m totally blown away by it. I’ve owned the 2.0 and 2.5s in the 718 and this is a completely different beast.

To those currently (patiently) waiting, it’s worth it!

I really like the Aventurine green. It was a bit of a gamble as I hadn’t seen it in the flesh but it’s a really nice colour in person.

James, we need a photo(!) and you will need to change your sign-off. [;)]

Here are a couple I've got. Will upload some more when I get chance. My only regret...not going for black calipers. I was too tight to pay for black, should be a free option IMO.

Just a update. So after 20 months of waiting, I have just had a call from my dealer principle

stating I might after think of another option for a car as it is not looking good for next year

in terms of allocation numbers and into new year Bose and Burmiester will not be available

So much for my dream car what a complete farce.

Very sorry to hear that Glenn. What a huge disappointment for you.

Sorry to here about your issues on delivery .. Sadly this is the state of Porsche and also most other manufacturers ... "supply chain issues" has become the norm for all issues in manufacture from cars to white goods. I ordered a Taycan CT 4s in Oct 2021 for delivery in Dec 2022 and I was happy with that as that was when the Cayenne was going to be 3 years old .. in Sept 2022 I was called and offered a Oct delivery but no test drive & not even a "sit in a car" .. it was a take it or leave it deal from Porsche .. (as OPC Reading simply did not have an example for me to experience) .. I elected to cancel and decided to keep the Cayenne for now

Porsche recently released manufacturing figures and Taycan is 12% down on delivery due to "supply chain", but they have the order line still full to over flowing .. they have the orders but cannot deliver on lots of ranges and sadly I and others feel it will get worse before getting better

I have a 981 GTS and love it, but I'm so tempted to order a new GTS4.0.

I called my 'local' dealer and was told Q1 2024 if I pay deposit now....

I was a little shocked but having thought about it, I'm not too fussed, as it gives me time to get it past the Mrs and enjoy my current car until it's time to swap....

Decisions, decisions.....
