Guards red 944 Turbo.......is this where prices are now?

The Info on My 944 thread makes interesting reading regarding values. It appears there are two markets for 944 turbos. 10k plus for low miles perfect ones. High miles or not perfect ones don't sell easily. If I'd known at the time that car could be had for Ă‚ÂŁ3k I'd have been all over it!

ORIGINAL: Neil Haughey We had it fully working in our 968. This time of year it would clear the windscreen of mist in seconds.
Not sure where the air on pipes go on a 944, but I recently saw a 930 that had aircon. The pipes run along the inner wing tops front to rear, clearly the condensation or crap trap had had an effect, you could see a perfect line of rust holes through the inner wing along the route that the pipes followed. So maybe not such a god idea to have it, although the ventilation on these cars is so poor that you do need it.

To be honest the above applies to most classic cars if not even most cars in general, the advice on these pages is normally buy the best car you can afford so it's not surprising the tatty, cheaper cars don't sell. How often does a cheap car quickly become more expensive than just buying a good one in the first place However a cheaper 944 with a few mechanical gremlins can be a good buy for those who are hands on, not for those paying Ă‚ÂŁ50 per hour labour rate. I think more often than not the non sellers are the cars with body issues, unless they are very very cheap and have decent parts on them. To my mind there are three distinct markets for 944's. Market 1. Top quality , low mileage cars, such as Martins Turbo, Ă‚ÂŁ10k upwards easily cars , and climbing Market 2. The scrap , tatty, none original, damaged, rusty, no history etc , Ă‚ÂŁ worth their value in parts. Market 3. The most difficult, from Ă‚ÂŁ4k - Ă‚ÂŁ7k, you could buy a peach or a nail disguised as a peach. The car pictured below was advertised very recently, the sellers own words "Ă‚ÂŁ200 - Ă‚ÂŁ300 pound would see this car back on the road " Both sides needed doing so ......I think not !!

Spot on, Paul. It's the middle-ground where it's hard to know whether you're in to potential large bills, or getting an absolute steal. We've all seen how a little bit of surface rust hides a lot worse, and you end up with a lot of repairs and a full respray: easily the price of a 944. With a clutch, belts/pump and a full service, brake overhaul, fuel lines, head gasket etc. all costing up to a grand at a garage, it's not hard to spend many Ă‚ÂŁ000s and still not have a car that's anywhere near perfect! Mine's certainly cost over Ă‚ÂŁ10K to buy and repair, not counting routine servicing. For that money I could have bought a better car in the first place: Ă‚ÂŁ10K would have bought the very best S2 five years ago. [8|]

Not an update to knock prices but more amused at how this car keeps going up in value every second week lol Was 14,995......then 15,995.......now 17,995............[:D] [:)]

Ludicrous.....perhaps Shark could explain what additional work has been done to add the extra 'value' []

Well, fun/weekend cars are much less in demand, and so fetch far less, in December - I would guess it's a bit like selling a ski boat; very seasonal - so perhaps he is pricing it ready for spring now? Plus, prices need to follow the market and the market really is on the way up……..

That's not really how it works though is it? Just look at how the asking prices for other Porsches have increased without any "additional work" done. People asking optimistic prices for 944's or other cars doesn't worry me - it's the ones who deliberately misrepresent an average car that they have buffed up and photographed nicely.

I was very amused by a recent comment elsewhere on the forum. The 964 guys were debating insurance valuations and some were wanting valuations renewed monthly to show the increase in the market, the comment asked the question would they get a new valuation every month to show a decrease in value when the market slowed or turned ? I doubt it very much. If it's good enough to be vulgar about air cooled prices then why should 944's any different, and I don't think we are being vulgar, we are being realistic. Paul

Now POA. [:D]

This car is the one which Shark said was a keeper right? And he is a car dealer presumably with some stock to sell? So my guess is he has no intention of selling this car but by ramping the asking price up is using it as bait to convince lurkers that 944 prices are rising rapidly and they better jump in quick. He then sells one of his cars from stock or at least has a buyer asking him to source one for them i.e. A sale in waiting.
