Happy 10th Birthday to the Boxster

Whilst at the ACE Cafe on Monday evening someone mentioned that the Boxster model will be 10 years old next year.

Surely to goodness we cannot let this milestone pass unnoticed and wihout something being organised on a 'grand' scale [a meal/picnic/dinner/barbecue/dance/disco - bash] somewhere.

Since proper planning prevents poor performance, why don't we all put forward ideas/suggestions for an all day 'celebration' next year and a committee [probably consisting of Mark] can make a final decision in true democratic style and sort out numbers, location [mid-England to attract maximum numbers], cost etc. etc. I expect that PGB will aslo want to contribute with ideas, publicity, gifts/prizes or something and the motoring press might well take an interest, especially if the event is in the summertime [the press silly season].

PS Sorry Mark for throwing this one onto you unannounced but it just occured to me and, after all, you are the best person I know - unless you want to delegate this to someone else - I am not volunteering to organise this although I am prepared to assist.

Edited to add poll - Mark

Took the idea right out of my head...[;)]

I was going to post something very similar [:)] We will of course be celebrating the 10 year anniversary at the Annual Event at Eynsham next year, but it would be nice to have a day just for "us".
So, over to the membership for ideas...?

John / Mark ... Can you put one of the vote box thingies on here and see how many say yeh and neh ... If we get enough yehs to book a date there maybe room for a few more celebration events in 06 [8D]

Done. [;)]

There will (if I get my way) be more celebration events in 06. Watch this space (or remind me to do it if nothing happens[&:])

Given the number of people who came to the Lotus Factory last year, perhaps we should try somwhere not so big and imposing - how about Marcos? [;)]

IMO this is strictly a Porsche Boxster thing and any event should be to reflect the marque/model. Why share glory with Marcos, TVR or whatever?

A day at a race rack for us all to enjoy ourselves, with safe circuits and 'training' for the inexperienced, coupled with a barbecue and a disco in the evening at a pub/club nearby might be the ideal event. Richard May will have got his Boxster by then and if we ask him nicely...

What are the collective views? The poll seems to indicate a day at Bedford. Is that far enough North? What is the likely cost, and what are the numbers likely to be? Can we expect/count upon PGB support?

Further ideas gratefully accepted.

Sorry Julian,

It was just a joke on the number of people we had (small[&o]) who turned up when we did a trip to Lotus for the Boxster Register. The Marcos comment was a joke that Lotus was evidently too big and scary for the Boxster members[;)]

Of course it will be a Boxster event [8D]

don't be put off Mark, larry and i would have loved to have come to the lotus trip but i seem to remember we were on holiday or something at the time. up here in Hinckley we have Noble Cars anyone interested?

Well I am (Although I thought they were assembled in South Africa??)

I'm always up for a car-factory tour[;)], but lets keep that outside the Boxster Anniversary topic[8D]

Edited for an embarrassingly bad spelling error [;)] - see later in the thread - Mark

2006 is a long ways a way ... so depending upon time and workload .. we would be up for something ...

Great idea! If it was Boxster only, there's a chance I wouldn't keep being overtaken by GT3s all day................

Speaking selfishly of course, I would go for Bedford as it's nice and close. There are a number of Boxster owners from alot further north though. Although a bit late, maybe we could add a few other options to the vote list at the top to give folk from other regions a better choice. This is, if anyone from the north regions can recommend a suitable venue.

The Noble factory (unit) is somewhat unimpressive, in fact from the outside you'd think it was a joke. But saying that the office space doesn't have to meet up with the standards of the new McLaren buildings as it's the cars that matter not the building.

I don't believe you just typed that!

My dad used to be a foreman in a printing factory, he made cardboard boxes. I don't know why but I had an overwhelming compulsion to share that with you. [&:]
