Have taken the 924s plunge!

Not temp sensor - although I'm sure it read short circuit when it was in the car! Have since changed over the temp sensor, changed over the fuel pressure regulator. No effect. Whipped off the inlet manifold and gave the ISV a good clean / lubrication. Also cleaned the vent pipes. All running better now.

Lee, You asked me the other night about the heating level and I have been reading through the various posts about your 924s. Three things that have been mentioned, seem to have a common vein. If there is a small leak in the cylinder head gasket, then hot gases with be forced under pressure into the waterways in the engine. Accounting for overheating; loss of water and idle problems. A leak in the heat exchanger or near pipework, even if insipid, could account also for water loss and for misting. Look around the carpets under the passenger or driver well and see if they are wetter than elsewhere. You can inspect the inside of the sills, by taking off the plastic vents in the door shuts and also the inside of the doors. If they are sound, then get them rust proofed with a well proven proofer. Waxoil perhaps, but it does harden in time or talk to RustStopShop.com Regards..............John

Thanks John. Good advice about the wax oil, although dreading what might be there. I think serious water loss can be ruled out now. No top-ups necessary since purchase (probably 1500 miles under the belt). Engine temperature still seems to move around though. A 7 mile commute won't see the gauge get above half but stop-start journies for 20 mins + will probably see the fan cut-in. Worst still - its still roasting inside! Next I will check the vacuum pipes have no leaks. When I did the 'finger check' the vacuum was harly noticeable. At the FPR it is very slight indeed. I've got a distraction at the moment which prevents any further investigations, but once back from Silverstone on Sunday :) all focus should be back on White #1. (John excellent show night by the way - even better than last year in my opinion. Thanks from all in the C2Dweller household for a great night!)

The head gasket may be breaking down allowing the water to short circuit. This is a known issue.

Another update on the jobs to do (in order of tackling). Won't be long before it has a winter sleep, ready for another season of fun: TO BE FIXED > Engine mounts - arrived - next project <HIGH> > Need to fix electric aerial. At the moment its permanently up. <LOW> > Engine Temperature much better after a good soak with gunk, followed by a blast with the compressor. Still activates fan in crawling traffic though!!. <LOW> > Need to replace belts & water pump. <MED> > Front struts were an advisory <LOW> Seems OK to me. > Sills <LOW PRIORITY> > Gearbox whine - sounds better now that exhaust is replaced. FIXED STUFF >Bumper did face the stars - now it looks good. Evidence of a little prang at some point. Replacement brackets and a bit of panel pulling. PITA to get bumper back on though. > Heater is permanently on hot <FIXED - plastic valve had failed - swapped out for a different one> > Has a flat spot when you press the throttle - suspect ISV needs a clean - cleaned and it was a PITA! > Brake pipes appeared on advisory - seem OK to me. MOT guy said no problems. > Drivers seat shims removed - I can't get my legs under the wheel now! > Steering wheel replaced with a better one (with better stitching and 'fixed' centre pad) > Exhaust rattles a little <Fixed> - got it second hand, but sounds a bit too sporty for my likinh ) > OE radio was OK. Problem traced to the sunroof / radio relay. Have bridged it our for time being. > Passenger window doesn't go up from drivers side <FIXED - cleaned contacts within switch & reassembled> > High water consumption - fixed by current keeper. Hasn't used anything in about 250 miles of use. We also did a block test without any adverse results. <DONE> > Recently car has had moisture inside <MED>- seems to be sunroof. Took seal off and it looks OK, so cleaned and refitted. Fingers crossed. Might also add a thin bead of non-drying bedding sealant into the groove. > Rear screen partially works - only one of the lines doesn't work! <V.LOW PRIORITY>
