Also interested in taking a look at the red S thats been mentioned too please?

Thanks :)

Nice looking car, if you like the interior (much better without the rear valence IMO)

The 944S I had in the late 80s (1986 "D") definitely did not have a rear valance.

Hi Keith

Did you go straight from the S to your current 2.7 lux? Side by side which puts the biggest grin on your face :)

Those are the two contenders for me.

Thanks

Derek

I wasn't keen on my burgundy interior when I first got my turbo, always preferred linen over dark. Now got a cab with linen/blue and as much as I like it the burgundy is now by far my favourite! Pure 80's.

haha yes it is pure 80s. I have the Duran Duran cassette at the ready, along with the huge mobile phone, red braces and the yuppie number plate.

Hi Derek,

No, there was almost a 20 year gap when I had to have sensible cars, so it is difficult to compare it to my 2.7 now. As others have said the S needs to be revved to get the best out of it. At low revs there was always a hesitation which Lancasters at Colchester were never able to cure. I have to say that because of this, I preferred my early 2.5 at the time.

The 2.7 seems to be getting 'very rare' and were I to be tempted back it would be by a 2.7 for sure .......

Best of luck , I just hope you live on the good side of Herts, not the dark side [:D]

Got three pics to post, you used "link", which is for websites. You need the "image" button, but I don't know why that last one doesn't show.

Looks great. If you want a drive out please bring it over at the weekend! [:)]

I have a feeling the Turbo valance became standard in '88 on the S - sure I read that somewhere.

Back to the cars - I have driven a 2.7 8V (albeit very briefly), owned an S and currently own a 220 Turbo.

The S is classic 16v. It doesn't have much about it from low down and you can get caught in the wrong gear - don't get me wrong, for plodding around it has plenty of low down torque, but you can't plant your foot down at 3k and expect it to pick up in the same way that an 8v or Turbo car would - however, once you pass through 5k it really does pick up well. I think it offers more than the 8v NA cars, but it needs to be driven in a spirited manner to be rewarded.

I had an open mind when I bought my first 944 and just wanted the best model for my budget, however, I always favour the underdog and was happy when I found a nice S for sale locally.

Good luck with your search :)
